Chapter Text
Is it ever enough?
Rain droplets raced down the sunroom’s windows, their pitter-patter mixing with the cracks of thunder. Wind rattled through the trees in the yard. Occasionally, a branch would slam into the glass and startle Iori out of his wits.
Despite the bad weather, he found himself sitting at the piano for the first time in months. The white keys gleamed in the dim lighting, taunting him, drawing him in. But every time he’d take a deep breath and prepare to play, he’d fall flat.
Iori rose to his feet. Cars drove by, people commuting to work. Would that be him someday? Some no-name who still fought, wondering if it was enough? If he had even an ounce of worth?
He slammed his fists on the keys, a loud bang filling the room. Tears poured down his cheeks, but no. He wouldn’t cry.
Driving his palm against his eye, he bit his tongue to keep the tears at bay. He was content with his perfect grades. His many talents. His wealthy family. Content with whatever the world offered him.
He needed nothing more.
He needed nothing at all.
Iori packed his bags that very afternoon.
