A Heroic Villain

Summary:

Izuku Midoriya is six years old when his mother dies.

Three days after that, he is adopted by the entire league of villains.

Not what he had in mind, but villains can still be heroes, right? Well. That's a stupid question.

Of course they can.

Chapter Text

Tomura Shigaraki was tired.

Sensei had been training him more lately, his warped voice coming out of the old looking TV as he egged Tomura on. Something about Tomura having to "push his limits if he were to truly destroy the symbol of peace".

Tomura didn't care, as long as he got to destroy whatever was getting in the way of his freedom.

Getting a new videogame probably wouldn't make him any less tired, but it might soothe the restlessness Sensei's words were starting to induce in him.

The light haired boy stalked through the back alleys of Musutafu, on his way to his favourite videogame store, trying to ignore the itching on his neck and the aching in all of his limbs- when he heard a sniffle from one of the alleys.

Usually, he would ignore any suspicious sounds coming from dark places - it was none of his business after all - but something about this specific sound made him pause.

The noise was familiar.

Why was it so familiar?

Oh.

A memory forced itself in front of his eyes, one he hadn't thought about in a while.

A small blue haired figure was crouched under a bridge, shivering and clutching his bloodied hands to his chest.

No, he didn't want to think about this right now.

The boy was alone.

He didn't want to remember.

But he did.

Without thinking, his feet seemed to walk forward on their own, until he stopped in front of a small figure, crouched on the ground. The boy had wild green hair, and he was clutching a small All Might toy to his chest, not his hands.

But in Tomura's minds eye, all he could see was blue hair.

The boy looked up, still clutching his bloodied hands, at a figure blocking the light. The person was tall, and he said something to Tenko the boy, before holding out his hand.

Tomura and the curly haired child stared at his gloved, outstretched hand. Tomura hesitated, before opening his mouth and saying something he didn't think he ever would.

"It's okay. I am here."

The child's eyes widened, and his knuckles went white as his hand constricted around his figurine.

A small hand slowly reached out.

That hand grasped his own.

Tomura blinked slowly, not quite smiling.

"Come with me."

Kurogiri couldn't say he wasn't surprised when his charge came back early from the videogame store, since he usually took a good three hours at least, and was even more surprised when he came back with a small child in tow.

But, as excellently as he had been trained, all he had to show for his surprise was a slight flicker of his eyes and a clearing of his throat.

"Tomura Shigaraki. What have you, ah, brought here?"

He attempted to phase the sentence as lightly as possible, and he wasn't sure it had worked.

The eleven year old merely looked at him, still holding the hand of a slightly confused-looking and dirty six year-old.

"I found him." Tomura stated bluntly. It was obvious to Kurogiri that his charge hadn't actually thought this through.

The misty man sighed. "Ok. Well, we can just put him back where you found him. Just give me the approximate location and I can warp-"

"NO!" The blue haired child stomped his foot on the floor.

Kurogiri flickered in surprise at the outburst. Sure, Tomura was known for his temper tantrums, but Kurogiri wasn't sure what had caused this one. Unless... did he want to keep the child?

"Tomura... you can't keep the child-"

"But I wanna! We're villains, aren't we? We could just kidnap him!"

Kurogiri sighed. "I'm sure sensei would be very happy that you're thinking of villainy, but you must also think rationally, Tomura."

Kurogiri's young charge stuck his nose in the air and pouted stubbornly.

"I am thinking rationally! He can join us!" Tomura's shoulders sagged a bit, "...and he was sad."

"Tomura... It's the heroes job to look after sad children on the streets. If we leave him alone I'm sure a hero will come and collect him-"

"Th-The heroes won't help me."

Both Kurogiri and Tomura looked at the owner of the small voice in mild surprise.

The green haired kid looked up from where he was staring at the small toy in his open palm with a thoughtful look. "I don't think they're allowed, actually."

Kurogiri was the first to recover, and said, "And... why not?"

"I'm quirkless."

"Oh."

Tomura chose that moment to speak up, "See? Those stupid heroes won't help him, so he has to stay with us!"

Kurogiri said nothing, instead pausing to think and looking at the dirty child still clinging onto Tomura's arm like a lifeline.

Finally, he asked, "Do you have any parents?"

The greendette shrunk at that. "Not since three days ago."

"And you're completely sure you want to stay here with us?"

The kid nodded fevently, his overgrown curls bouncing into his eyes at the action.

The warp villain considered it. He glanced at the old TV in the corner, the one Sensei usually spoke out of. It was on so the man must be listening, but he hadn't said anything yet. Kurogiri had the sneaking suspicion that he was waiting to see what decision they would make without him. Kurogiri floundered for a second more... then relented.

"...Fine." Before the children could celebrate though, he added, "But it's your job to make sure he doesn't die."

"Deal!"

When Tomura had started dragging the kid to his room, Kurogiri called after them, makeg them stop in their tracks. "One more thing! What's your name, child?"

"Oh! It's I-Izuku Midoriya!"

Before Tomura had found him, Izuku had honestly no idea what to do. He had tried not to think about the incident three days ago that had destroyed his home and the only family he had left...and had failed miserably. Keyword miserable.

Nevertheless, he had also been highly confused when some stinky ten year old had towed him into a bar and had convinced the tall misty man behind the counter to let him stay, but he was glad. Sure, they were villains, but that meant they wouldn't care about his quirk (or lack thereof) or his stutter, or his obsession with quirks, or his muttering, or his notebooks or the multitude of flaws that came with Izuku Midoriya.

After all, his mother did tell him to keep an open mind for people.

Maybe this weird group would be the ones to finally accept him.
