Moonless Kingdom

Chapter 1

Shadow Milk drifted within his other realm feeling nothing but blind rage and hatred for that pathetic fool, Pure Vanilla Cookie, the old fool and his empty offers and promises. It was all going so well too. If only it stayed the same. Maybe then…no. Shadow Milk shakes the thought from his head and lets out an irritated scoff. Ever since that offer Pure Vanilla made all Shadow milk was able to do was think about his words and how wonderfully he was able to lie. It almost fooled him- almost. Candy Apple and Black Sapphire Cookie must be waiting for him. Shadow Milk heaved a sigh and allowed himself to dissolve out of his realm and into their camp in the woods. Disgusting. There was no moon tonight and the stars barely allowed for enough light; it didn’t really matter to Shadow Milk he could see fine in the dark, its Candy Apple and Black Sapphire he should be worried about.
Shadow Milk took form and hovered a few inches from the ground. Candy Apple let out an extremely loud shriek and ran to him nearly tackling him as Black Sapphire scrambled to Shadow Milk.

“Master Shadow Milk!” Black Sapphire huffed as he assessed Shadow Milk Cookie, the past two days Shadow Milk barely left his other realm and when he did he was abnormally silent, not to mention Shadow Milk’s wounds haven’t been tended to yet, “are you alright? Would you like to eat something master? Or perhaps you would like some tea?”

“No,” Shadow Milk shook his head and rubbed his temples as Black Sapphire peeled Candy Apple off of him, “I don’t want tea or food.”

Black Sapphire nodded and gave a small bow, “Yes Master Shadow Milk Cookie.” Black Sapphire turned and began to bicker with Candy Apple over something trivial.

Shadow Milk had just come out to see if the two weren’t tripping over roots in the dark, but it seemed the camp was much more developed than the last time he visited. Had it been more than a few days? Maybe. Time didn’t truly pass in his other realm so it could be hard to tell, however the most handsome and perfect cookie in all Earthbread had an impeccable internal clock. Shadow Milk dropped himself to the ground and walked about the small camp- the three small tents and campfire was the only evidence that anyone was in these woods. Black Sapphire made sure of that. To be honest, Shadow Milk didn’t know where he was, a bit depressing and embarrassing to admit but Shadow Milk had fallen into a depressive episode after Pure Vanilla’s proposal and allowed himself to be dragged out of Beast Yeast into a random forest by Black Sapphire. Truly not his lowest point but not one he’ll ever admit to being in. Now because of his own feelings-an idea that Shadow Milk fell prey to again and again- he was stuck within these woods witches knows where.

This is a waste of time. Being out in these woods. Shadow Milk feels nothing but rage and anger at the old blind fool and these woods he is stuck in. It’s like the tree- no. The tree was stuffy, hot, and merciless. A trap by the witches of punishment oh those who only wish to enlighten cookiekind. Truly being stuck with the other beast wasn’t- no it was awful. Shadow Milk sighed before turning to face Black Sapphire and Candy Apple who stare at Shadow Milk.
“Master, let me look at your wounds,” Black Sapphire looked at him it seemed as if he could see how hurt Shadow Milk was, he hated to acknowledge the fact this-shell of a body- was more prone to pain than his last.
Shadow Milk sighed, “There is no issue. You both are overreacting.” Shadow Milk struck a pose that caused severe pain to shoot through his left shoulder and caused him to visibly wince.
“MASTER SHADOW MILK!” Candy Apple shouted as she grappled Black Sapphire and began to throttle him.

Shadow Milk gave a huff as Black Sapphire pried Candy Apple off him and began to rummage through his tent for medical supplies while Candy Apple fussed over Shadow Milk.
Black Sapphire returned and began to work on Shadow Milk’s shoulder and muttering nervously.
“Is something wrong?” Shadow Milk tried not to sound hurt as he muttered through gritted teeth. Had his shoulder always been this bothersome since the injury?
“No master! Of course not,” Black Sapphire murmured, “just some tear in your shoulder.”

Thankfully Black Sapphire was a skilled healer. Well, for his skill set he was compared to other healers his skills were laughable at best. Shortly after Shadow Milk allowed himself to dissolve back into his other realm. Shadow Milk barely could keep himself awake the silence and comfort of the dark not to mention the empty stomach he had. Well, he didn’t have to eat to survive those witches made sure of that, but he still had those unpleasant effects of hunger. The shell body only amplified this. He would bring this up with Dark Enchantress Cookie when the cross paths next. And they will.

Shadow Milk gripped his soul jam as he listened to its hum and felt the gentle pulse of it. He sighed and wondered if the soul jam would ever be his fully again. Perhaps he could wait for Pure Vanilla’s death- too long. That fool would live forever to spite him it feels like. He sighs and lifts his hand from the soul jam. For some reason it seems to hum loudly as if there was a response to him touching it. Odd. It’s never done that before. Whatever, he’s tired anyways and allows himself a moment of rest. Maybe his abyss was the least miserable place in all of Earthbread but it was rare for him to sleep in his other realm.

Shadow Milk didn’t have time to think anymore before his eyes closed and he slipped into the sweet embrace of sleep.
