   Summary

   Erich Müller is a 16-year old boy from the Province of Hanover (modern day Low Saxony, Germany). After living a life in poverty, and tragically after his father's death of Tuberculosis, Erich enlists for the German Army in early December of 1915. Having been raised by his mother a majority of his life, Erich becomes homesick during his time at training camp and earns himself the name "Schreibaby" as a form of humiliation from his officers and fellow recruits.

   Erich's new life is filled with loss and heavy emotions, with guilt following close behind like a dirty dog, as he attempts to make it home back to his mother.
