AU -- That lockout never happened. Instead, both sides agreed a couple years ago to a radical new CBA, where the owners gave up a salary cap and the players surrendered themselves. There would be no limits on either contract length or size, but if a player had to be cut from the roster before fulfilling its term, he would owe the team the balance of his contract. If he couldn't buy himself out, the team was legally permitted to auction him off to the highest bidder.
