A little too hot?...

Summary:

Yes Man noticed a weird habit you have and decides to investigate...but instead ends up cuddling with you to keep you warm!

Notes:

(My body has issues keeping itself warm, so I hope you enjoy this little self indulgent fic. I love Yes Man, he's so cute.)

Work Text:

Yes Man had noticed an odd little thing you'd do rather often. You tended to sit outside in the sun, on the concrete outside The Lucky 38, and soak up the warmth of the sun beating down on the Mojave Wasteland. From what the securitron understood, the strip was hot, very hot. Lots of people complained about it, but not you! You'd just...go outside and sit there. You'd bring a gun, of course, in case anyone tried to give you any trouble...not that it was necessary with how many securitrons followed you around to keep you safe, as per Yes Man's request. But yeah, all you'd do is simply sit there and enjoy the heat that had most others panting uncomfortably and sweating like a hooker in church.

It was peculiar, Yes Man thought so at least. Most wastelanders did what they could to remedy the heat. Wore less clothes, hid in the shade, stayed inside...but you? You didn't seem to mind. It was something so curious, even Mr. House had documented it. The friendly securitron had been going through the old files saved to the mainframe and noticed House's mention of your weird little habit. He compared you to a lizard, soaking up the sun. Ha! That's actually quite silly. At least Yes Man thought so.

So, this evening once you retired to your room, he wanted to ask you about it. Simply out of curiosity. Yes Man zapped himself into an empty securitron to roll up to your suite and check on you. He found you already partially dozing off, comfy beneath a few blankets. He noted that the AC was off and wondered how you managed to function like that. He then turned his attention back to you. Hm...well he'd at least try to talk to you. He had questions! If you were grumpy and didn't want to wake up though, he'd leave you alone.

"Oh, Courier?" Yes Man said, his chipper voice briefly stirring you awake. You lifted your head up, attempting to focus your tired gaze on your companion. The soft glow of his screen was too bright to genuinely focus on, but sensing he now had your attention, he got to his point. "I'm sure you're aware the temperature of this room is what most would consider uncomfortable? And you're under approximately three blankets, as well as having your air conditioning unit off. I estimate this room is about 86⁰ Fahrenheit or 30⁰ Celsius!"

"M'always cold." You answered drowsily, letting your head fall back down atop the pillow beneath yourself. You were already falling asleep again, somewhere between dreaming and waking. It was a state you've always enjoyed. It made you feel weightless and floaty.

Meanwhile, Yes Man continued on. "Always? Forgive me for asking, but how is that possible, Courier? I thought humans were able to regulate their temperature to keep themselves warm or cool themselves down. Are you inferring you're unable...?" He paused in his spiel, realizing you had fallen back asleep. He picked up quite easily on the change in your breathing and the way your body relaxed beneath the blankets. And since you had drifted off once again, he didn't bother asking before doing whatever it was he was about to do.

And whatever that thing was; it was laying down beside you. Obviously! Though he didn't quite think it through. He's so much bigger than you in your frail human body...but he was careful-ish as he maneuvered himself onto the bed beside you. It creaked beneath his weight, but didn't give out. He was pleasantly surprised the bedframe didn't flat out collapse beneath him. Perhaps Mr. House, as bad as he was, did care about the quality of certain things? That counts for something, right?

You had jumped slightly, feeling the bed dip dramatically as you were startled awake. You lifted your head, bracing yourself for possibly being attacked. You were so used to constantly being ready to defend yourself in the wasteland. Yes Man noticed be had accidentally spooked the hell out of you and reached a metallic claw out to pat your side. "Ah, not to worry courier! It's just me!" He soothed.

"What are you...-?" You gave up on words as your favorite robot wrapped one of his long securitron arms around you and pulled you close to his chassis. You could feel the warmth emanating from him, no doubt due to the fans of his cooling system working harder because of how hot it was in your room.

It was nice though...like white noise. And he was warm, so very warm. A little boxy however...you grumbled and pulled a pillow between you two for a little cushioning. Ah, that's better. And Yes Man didn't mind. He was just happy you were making yourself comfy against him.

He felt rather happy. Hm...it's just like those old films Benny would watch. Yes Man's only ever caught glimpses of them, but there was something so intriguing about watching humans be so affectionate in certain scenes. Something that warmed his circuits...as he currently warmed you. He listened to your soft breaths even out once more as you fell asleep against him. He couldn't help the giddy giggle that echoed through his speakers. He felt fuzzy...and warm.

This was nice...

✨Bonus!✨: Yes Man ends up overheating half way through the night and lays limply next to you when he inevitably shorts out. He eventually boots back up though! His systems were very resilient thanks to Benny messing with his programming! Once he did, he saw you looming over him and fussing over his shorted circuits. His display simply showed him smiling like a lovesick fool, a wobbly affectionate grin appearing on his screen.
