Summary
Juliette Wysteria Peletier learned two things from her father: that love hurts, and that God doesn’t always answer. When the world ended, she thought maybe that was proof of both.
She survived her father.
She survived the farm.
She survived the barn which her twin sister's mangled corpse walked out of.
Now the prison stands like a graveyard with walls, and Carl Grimes is the only thing in it that still feels like home. They’ve been best friends since the beginning of the apocalypse. Carl has always known Juliette—sharp-tongued, watchful, beautiful in the way broken things often can be.
But lately, the way that he looks at her has changed. Carl looks at her and feels it in his bones: he would die for her. He would kill for her. He might already belong to her in ways no fool can undo.
Juliette knows this feeling too.
She just refuses to call it love.
She knows better than to believe in it.
She knows what love does to people.
It buries them.
And she refuses to be the one digging Carl’s grave.
