Cater: Hi #everyone!!! Welcome to the second episode of…drumroll please…exes play truth or drink, #Caycay style! Today we have Azul and my darling Rids!
Azul: Hello.
Riddle: Hello everyone.
Riddle paused.
Riddle: And Cater, please refrain from calling me that.
Cater: Awww, but you’re so cute!
Riddle started looking visibly annoyed.
Cater: Sorry, sorry. Let’s #get started!
Azul: You haven’t yet fully informed us of what we’re doing today.
Cater: Oh! Sorry, Caycay must have forgotten. You two are basically playing #truth or drink! Pick a card, ask the other person the question on your card, and wait for their reply. If you want to skip a question the other person asks you, you gotta take a shot!
Azul: Isn't this a bit unsafe?
Azul smiled politely.
Azul: What if we accidentally reveal sensitive information?
Cater: Well, it’s a recording so we can always cut stuff out.
Azul: You’ll make sure to ask for our approval before you post it?
Cater: Yes I—
Azul: Do you promise? Should I draw out a contract?
Cater: I—
Riddle: I’d appreciate it if you stopped pressuring Cater, Azul.
Azul: Pressuring? I’m merely asking him a question to ensure my safety.
Azul spread his hands, putting on a wounded expression. Riddle sighed.
Riddle: Please, let’s just get started.
Azul: Fine.
Azul tilted his head consideringly.
Azul: As long as I have reassurance that the footage would be sent to me before being uploaded.
Riddle: Cater, please?
Cater: Yes, of course!
Azul smiled.
Azul: Then, let’s begin.
Question 1:
Riddle: Who loved who more?
Riddle frowned.
Riddle: Is this appropriate—
Azul: Riddle dear, weren’t you the one that said we should just go with what Cater says.
Azul smiled pleasantly.
Riddle: That was not what I said.
Azul: It was very much implied.
Riddle: Ashengrotto, perhaps you believe I said that, but I very much did not.
Riddle’s face had started looking red.
Cater: Um, mayhaps we can actually answer the question…?
Cater’s smile looked a little strained.
Riddle: Right, apologies, Cater.
Azul chuckled.
Azul: Of course. What was the question again?
Riddle: Who loved who more?
Azul: In that case, I hate to admit it, but I think it was quite an equal exchange, no?
Riddle: I—
Riddle hesitated.
Riddle: Yes, I agree.
Question 2:
Azul: What do you miss the most about our relationship?
Azul paused.
Azul: Really? This question seems a lot more simple to answer than the one I had to.
Riddle: Isn’t that just an unfortunate matter of luck then?
Azul: I believe there should be some compensation for this.
Riddle: Surely you jest.
Azul: I believe a deal should leave both parties satisfied.
Riddle: And I’m sure all your contracts were really fair.
Azul: They were—
Riddle: I think I miss the way Ashengrotto would always know what I needed before I even knew myself.
Riddle shifted uncomfortably like the words were forced out of him.
Azul: Ah.
Azul also seemed to avoid looking at Riddle.
Cater: Let’s…move…on…?
Question 3:
Riddle: What is one positive thing you’ve taken out of this relationship?
Azul: Truly, now, what if there was nothing positive?
Riddle’s eyebrow twitched.
Azul: Oh, I’m only joking, of course there’s positives.
Riddle seemed to relax a little.
Azul: …I was taught to value myself more.
There’s a pause.
Riddle: But objectively, you’re quite skilled.
Azul: I—thanks.
Question 4:
Azul: Have I ever popped into your head when you slept with someone else?
Without even pausing, Riddle reached forward, poured himself a shot, and downed it. Azul raised an eyebrow.
Azul: Really?
Riddle: It’s inappropriate.
Azul shrugged.
Azul: Okay.
Question 5:
Riddle: How long did it take you to get over the relationship and what did you do to get over it?
Azul traced a finger around the rim of a shot glass. His expression looked thoughtful, eyebrows furrowing as he considered.
Azul: I—
He cut himself off, pursing his lips. Riddle glanced at him.
Riddle: Ashengrotto, if you’re so uncomfortable, you should simply take a shot.
Azul: It’s…
Azul paused.
Azul: I will.
Azul downed the shot.
Question 6:
Azul: Do you ever stalk me on social media?
Riddle: No.
Azul: Are you sure about that?
Riddle: Yes.
Azul: Lying about this is against the rules, you know? You might as well take a shot.
Riddle frowned, face going a bit red.
Riddle: The rules also indicate it’s my question, and I get to answer. Not you.
Azul: But if you’re lying—
Riddle: My answer is correct.
Azul: Mhm.
Riddle: What’s that supposed to—
Cater: Housewarden, why don’t we move on?
Cater shifted on his seat.
Cater: Please?
Riddle: …Yes, alright.
Question 7:
Riddle: Where’s the most unusual place we…slept together?
Riddle passed a shot to Azul before he even finished asking.
Riddle: Drink it.
Azul raised an eyebrow.
Azul: Why so adamant? Don’t I get a choice on my question? That’s what the rules seem to say.
Riddle: This question isn’t appropriate.
Azul: You’re breaking the rules?
Riddle: Cater should have never included this question to begin with.
Cater: Uhhhh—
Cater raised both hands up, palms outwards.
Cater: #Sorry, I just took the typical questions for this type of content.
Riddle sighed.
Riddle: Fine. That’s alright. Be more careful next time. Ashengrotto? Simply take the shot, so we don’t have to answer it.
Azul: Oh, but I don’t mind answering.
Riddle tensed.
Riddle: …Really?
Riddle smiled, but it had a sharp edge.
Riddle: Even with your reputation as a business owner?
Azul’s right eye twitched.
Riddle: I thought so.
Riddle seemed satisfied.
Azul: Fine, I’ll drink.
Azul took a shot.
Question 8:
Azul: Which one of your friends likes me the least?
Riddle almost smiled.
Riddle: I can’t believe I can call him a friend…but Trappola. He was quite angry on my behalf.
Riddle seemed amused.
Azul: The little card soldier? Really? I thought you two hated each other after that whole fiasco at the start of the year.
Riddle: And I thought your information network was the best in the school. Clearly you’re not up to date.
Azul forced a smile.
Azul: Let’s move on.
Question 9:
Riddle: Did you ever keep a secret during the relationship and if so, what was it?
Riddle scoffed immediately after finishing it.
Riddle: He had more secrets than the Queen of Hearts rules.
Azul: I wouldn’t go that far.
Riddle: Really?
Azul was silent.
Azul: I—
Riddle: Yes?
Azul: I didn’t mean to.
Riddle: Really?
Riddle sounded skeptical.
Azul: …Sort of.
Riddle: That’s what I thought.
Azul: I—
Riddle: Forget it. It already happened.
Azul: But—
Riddle: Ashengrotto.
Azul: I’m sorry.
Riddle looked shocked, before schooling his expression. He tilted his head as he studied Azul. Azul remained silent.
Question 10:
Azul: What did I do that annoyed you the most?
Riddle: I talked about it already in the previous question.
Azul was silent. Riddle sighed.
Riddle: It’s alright. It doesn’t matter anymore.
Azul: …I apologize for my fault in the matter, but I don’t think you were perfect either.
Riddle: I—
Riddle paused.
Riddle: I probably wasn’t.
Azul narrowed his eyes, glancing at Riddle with an almost surprised look.
Question 11:
Riddle: What was the hardest part about the breakup?
Azul reached forward, picking up a shot and downing it without even hearing the end of the question. Riddle looked at him in surprise.
Riddle: …Was it that bad?
Riddle paused.
Riddle: My apologies, that was out of turn.
Azul: It’s alright, don’t worry about it.
Question 12:
Azul: When did you know it was over?
Riddle: I…
Azul turned his head towards Riddle, seeming to listen intently.
Riddle: Perhaps when he didn’t value my input.
Azul: I did value it.
Riddle: Let me correct myself. When he chose to ignore all my suggestions, opinions and limits.
Azul: I—
Riddle: Don’t apologize. There’s no use repeating yourself.
Azul seemed to hesitate before speaking.
Azul: Riddle.
Riddle: Yes?
Azul: I understand your frustration, but don’t you think you’re being a little unfair?
Riddle: Please elaborate.
Azul: A relationship goes both ways. It’s an equal exchange. I can’t be the only one at fault.
Riddle: There are cases where there’s one clear perpetrator.
Azul: And was our relationship one of those?
Riddle: …No. But you also never listened—
Azul: Do I have to?
Riddle: What?
Azul: Even in a romantic relationship, the people involved are still separate individuals.
Riddle: Yes? Of course, their minds didn’t merge.
Azul: Therefore they’d be inherently different no matter what.
Riddle frowned.
Riddle: What is your point—
Azul: You didn’t internalize that concept. Although you claim to understand, you tried to assert your beliefs onto me.
Riddle: No I—
Azul raised an eyebrow.
Riddle: You’re correct.
Azul: I thought so.
Riddle: I—
Azul tilted his head.
Riddle: I’m…sorry, too.
Azul sighed.
Azul: It’s over and done with.
Riddle paused, biting his lip before speaking.
Riddle: Would you want to try again?
Azul: Perhaps…but a relationship can’t be built on apologies, can it?
Riddle: I suppose not.
Question 13:
Riddle: Are you still in love with the other?
While still reading the question, he held out a shot for Azul. Azul pushed his hand away. His touch looked gentle.
Azul: It’s okay. I can answer.
Riddle raised an eyebrow, before his expression seemed to soften a fraction.
Riddle: Are you sure? You don’t have to.
Azul: Yes, I’m certain.
Azul bit his lip, using one hand to push up his glasses.
Azul: If I’m still in love with Riddle, I wouldn’t even know it myself.
Riddle: How does that—
Azul held up a hand, and Riddle stopped talking.
Question 14:
Azul: Last question. Do you regret ending it?
Riddle frowned, tapping a finger on the table. His hand inched towards the shot glass like he wanted to take it but was consciously stopping himself. Azul watched him carefully.
Riddle: I…don’t know.
Azul raised his eyebrows, like he was shocked Riddle would admit that.
Riddle: I don’t know if I regret it.
Riddle didn’t say anything more.
Question 15:
Cater: Last question before y’all go! This is for both of you. If you could do it over again, what would you change?
Riddle and Azul were both silent. Cater winced.
Cater: Sorry guys. This is #a tad insensitive.
Riddle: Don’t worry Cater. We consented to this interview first.
Cater: Still…
Azul: It’s a deal agreed to, now wasn’t it?
Cater: I—true.
Riddle: We just need time to think.
Azul: Yes.
Cater: …okay.
Everyone was silent for another bit. Cater shifted uncomfortably. Azul adjusted his glasses. Riddle tapped the table with a finger.
Riddle: We somewhat answered this question earlier.
Azul: I suppose we did. A relationship cannot be built on people saying sorry.
Riddle: I agree. Therefore, if we were to redo this whole thing, I believe our first order of business would be to come to an agreement to forget the past.
Azul: And—
Azul winced.
Azul: Talk. Honestly. Without games.
Riddle: Yes.
Azul almost smiled a genuine smile. The camera cut to black.
