Work Text:
Oleg wasn't the sentimental type; he thought only of himself. That's what he believed until he met a truly exceptional girl and a truly admirable and respectable man
Anzhelina was a young girl, what could she have been, 15 years old? At first, Oleg thought she was just another brat with family issues with the sole purpose of being rude to any male she met. But one night, as he was going to the kitchen to get a drink, he saw her sitting next to a man, she was holding his hand and they were talking to each other as if they were father and daughter. It touched his heart
And that man... Oh holy gods. He was just splendid. Oleg had never felt as close to a person as he did with him. Yuily was a man who had seen terrible things, so terrible that he had decided to take out his eyes to save his sanity; despite this he was still happy to be alive, he enjoyed being with others or at least having a chat or two with them, Anzhelina was clearly his favorite, but Oleg was also good company
Thus, what had previously been pity turned into admiration, admiration into respect, respect into friendship, friendship into... Love!?
Now that was an unexpected turn of events. He didn't really know what to make of it, especially since he was a random guy with no eyes in a stranger's house with the apocalypse outside. And him? He certainly wasn't any better: a drifter fired from his job for helping a psycho bitch recover the body of her husband who, to be precise, he himself had killed. They were both completely beached, and perhaps that was what brought them closer together
He scolded himself repeatedly for falling for it like a fool, and he scolded himself even more in his head when he decided to tell it to none other than Anzhelina, literally the person closest to Yuily. There was also another problem, he didn't really know how to interact with others. How was he supposed to confess his feelings if he couldn't even speak normally?
"Just tell him how you feel about him and everything will be fine" Anzhelina snorted, pushing Oleg in front of the door
"It's easier said than done, you skalivag..." Oleg growled at her
Anzhelina rolled her eyes and opened the door. Yuily was sitting in his usual place, a glass of water in his hands. He raised his head as soon as he heard the door open. He turned his head towards the two of them:
"Homeowner?"
The man took a silent breath and turned to face the girl. She nodded at him to come in. Oleg sighed and entered:
"It's me, Yuily" He mumbled
Yuily's face lit up. He smiled: "Hi, Oleg. Did you bring the painkillers?"
"Uh, y-yeah. Hold up" Oleg reached into his pocket and pulled out a round container. He opened it and poured two pills into his hand. He reached out: "Here"
Yuily slowly brought his hand closer, picking them up with his fingers as if they were grains of rice. He put both pills in his mouth, letting them reach the edge of his throat, then drank the water. He breathed a sigh of relief:
"Thanks, I needed it"
"You're welcome..."
"Is something wrong? You sound strange"
"I-uh... Yeah. Actually I... Uhm... You know..."
Yuily tilted her head toward him and waited for him to continue. Oleg scratched his hand:
"We've known each other for a while... And I... Just... Mh..." I love you. I love you. I love you I love you I love you
Anzhelina huffed in annoyance and approached the two. When she was behind Oleg, she pushed him: "Too slow"
Oleg's eyes widened and he put his hands on Yuily's shoulders, lips crashing against lips. The other man flinched for a moment, then did nothing. He didn't push him away. Oleg's face turned as red as cherries. He immediately broke away from Yuily and looked at him nervously:
"I-I-I'm sorry!" He turned his gaze to Anzhelina: "You..."
Oh oh. Anzhelina giggled and pointed at Yuily. The man was still motionless, one hand pressed against his lips. He seemed thoughtful. Oleg was afraid of his reaction. He felt like a complete idiot, a total idiot:
"Is this what you wanted to tell me?"
Oleg stammered an apology, then realized it really wasn't worth it. He nodded, then remembered that Yuily couldn't see him. He took courage, and finally spoke:
"Yes"
Yuily sighed and smiled softly, raising his head as if he was searching for the man with his eyes: "I appreciate it. However, I don't think I'm ready for this. I'd prefer we stay friends, if you don't mind"
Anzhelina stared at the scene, transfixed, her mouth open. Oh come on, that was serious bad luck. She decided that this, while clearly her fault, was not her responsibility. She ran out of the kitchen and locked herself in the cabin. Oleg grunted and wished he could forget what just happened:
"Oleg" Yuily suddenly said: "Could you come closer for a moment? I think I have a problem with my collar, maybe the tag is dragging on my neck"
"Really? I don't think so" Oleg approached: "There's no tag in-"
Yuily took Oleg by the hood and kissed him gently on the lips. Oleg's heart felt like it was about to leap out of his chest. He held back his sudden excitement and took the man by the face and closed his eyes
When the two separated, Yuily giggled. Oleg had gone red again and he probably could feel it too:
"I thought you said..."
"I only said that so Anzhelina wouldn't make a scene. She couldn't wait to tell everyone how happy she is for her friends. She's a good girl, as you know"
Oleg sighed in exasperation but then smiled, sitting down in front of Yuily: "Yeah, she's a good girl"
The two kissed again, completely ignoring the sound of approaching footsteps and unaware that Anzhelina was peeking at them from behind the door. She held back a huge laugh and simply giggled and kicked her feet to the ground, then ran back to the cabin, excitedly ready to tell Nina and Lasha what she saw
