No More neglect

Summary:

Night of Neglect, season 2, episode 17. Just a little reaction fic.

Work Text:

"My God, she’s amazing!"

"She totally is!"

"She just knocked that Aretha Franklin song completely out of the park. Her voice is just totally suited to singing Aretha songs."

"I know. I’m so glad you can see what a talent she is. And so lovely and humble as well. I’m so proud of her. I’ve already signed her up to sing at my wedding."

Blaine looked at Kurt, and smiled.  They were at the fundraising concert at McKinley, but seemed to be only two people out of five in the audience.

Kurt realised what he’d just said to the boy he’d been dating a week, and a blush rose up in his cheeks.

“I mean, umm, Mercedes, yes. We’ll have to go talk to her afterwards and tell her she’s wonderful.”

Blaine couldn’t take his eyes off Kurt’s face. “Sure.” he said, and did not stopped smiling.

Later that evening, Kurt was driving Blaine back to Dalton, where they both boarded. They laughed and sang songs the whole way home. When they reached the pupils’ designated car park at Dalton, Kurt killed the engine.

“I’m sorry, it wasn’t quite the evening I thought was planned. I thought they’d have a huge audience. I think something weird was going on, and Sunshine let them down.”

“No, it was fine. I really enjoyed seeing your friends perform.” Blaine reached for Kurt’s hand, and held it. “Our first proper date as boyfriends, I still can’t believe it.”

Kurt smiled at Blaine. “ I know. I loved being there with you.” and he reached across and kissed Blaine’s lips softly.

Blaine shifted and took Kurt’s face in his hands, and deepened the kiss. “Thank you. You make me feel special.”

“You are.”

And they kissed again.

“I think we need to go into school though. We can’t stay here all night, much as I’d like to…” Blaine said grinning cheekily at Kurt.

“I know, Blaine. We need to take it slow. It’s still all new to me.” Kurt said, opening his car door and getting out.

"So you’ve got your whole wedding planned then?" Blaine asked coyly as they walked through the halls to their dorm rooms.

Kurt blushed. "Ummm, about that. Can we just forget I said that. It’s a bit embarrassing."

"No, it’s not. It’s fun. You have to tell me all the details."

"You’ll mock me." "I promise I won't. One question though, at present it’s only legal in a few states, so where have you chosen?"

"I like the idea of Boston. Maybe New England in the Fall. Rustic colors. Brown and red, and amber, caramel and gold colors. There’s something about those colors…."

"Sounds lovely. Have you chosen a groom yet? Or does he have a choice about any of it?"

"Of course he does, silly." Kurt tapped Blaine’s arm. "You don’t think I’d marry someone without some opinion on what he wears on the day, or the rings?"

"I see, but he’d have to agree to the color scheme."

"He totally would. Anyway, I’m what - sixteen, I’m guessing it’s a long way in the future. But Mercedes is totally gonna sing. We’ve even narrowed down the song choice."

Blaine chuckled. "Wow that is an important detail. Care to share?"

"Oh I don’t know. You must think I'm crazy"

"No, not at all. Hey we’re gay. That shouldn’t stop us dreaming of having what straight guys get. You wanna get married, you can dream it now. You wanna have kids, then gay people can too. The more states agree with us, the better. There is a change happening, and more people are agreeing. So you should dream, Kurt, you deserve it. We deserve it."

Kurt looked and smiled. Something in Blaine’s eyes, the bright amber and gold shining through. He was a comfort and shared a belief in what he wanted. It was a security he’d never felt before. That he could be who he was and not be judged. Finally, at last, someone had come along and really liked him for being himself.

They arrived at their shared room, which Nick and Jeff also shared. They weren’t in the room, so it gave them a chance to have a few more kisses before curfew bell at 1130pm.

“Thank you, Blaine. For not laughing at me. Not thinking I’m some weird kid who dreams of weddings, even before he’s in a serious relationship.” Blaine just shook his head.

“You’re not some weird kid.” He tenderly put his hand on Kurt's shoulder, and looked straight into his eyes. “You’re a very special young man, and I’m just glad now that I’m with you. Ain’t no way I’m letting you go.” And he leaned in for one longer lingering kiss.
