Chapter Text
“Just don’t look up until I say so.”
CH sighed and looked down at his feet. Why was he always getting the riskiest jobs? Where were his protective headphones? Seriously… this is why he’s always dying all the time. Hmph!
“CH… Can you hear me?”
CH jumped, startled when he heard BB’s voice.
“Um, yes.” CH answered before he thought.
It was strange though, why did BB’s voice sound like it was coming from in front of him when BB was sitting right next to him? CH almost lifted his head before he remembered BB’s warning that he had given before they entered the movie theatre.
Don’t look up until he says so and he hasn't said so. CH refocused on his feet and squirmed uncomfortably, the rope tying his hands together was really tight.
“Good,” BB’s voice said again. “Why don’t you look up, now?”
CH still had an uneasy feeling, he turned his head slightly to glance at BB.
BB seemed to be totally focused on what he was writing in the report. “BB?” CH asked him, trying to confirm that he was the one speaking.
Of course, BB didn’t look up or acknowledge CH at all. Right, CH almost forgot BB couldn’t hear him. So it couldn’t have been BB speaking to him, right? He would ignore it. It was just an illusion spawned from the zone. That was all.
“I promise you’ll like what you see. CH, look up.”
“No. You’re not real.” CH squeezed his eyes shut trying to ignore the imposter BB’s voice, which was easier said than done.
“Eden, look up.”
CH’s eyes shot open and a feeling of longing and recognition clawed at his heart. What was that? Why did that name cause such a reaction? Who was Eden?
“You can trust me. I promise, just look up.”
The voice sounded sweet as honey and CH knew it was fake. He knew it. BB’s voice would never sound like that, especially if he were speaking to CH.
CH knew, but he still looked. He never could resist responding to that voice. Really, he was doomed from the start. It was so unfair.
XXX
BB just finished filling out the final piece of the report. It was time to tell CH that it was time to leave. Honestly, this was the most peaceful mission that BB had been on in a while. It was a bit nice to have some quiet time for once. CH was many things, but quiet was not usually one of them.
BB lifted his head to give CH the okay to lift his head, but when he looked over CH was gone. Dread filled BB’s stomach like lead when he noticed the frayed ropes left behind where CH was sitting.
Crap. CH had been hypnotized by the theatre. BB looked around the theatre for any sign of CH. The seats all around them were empty and F was sitting in his seat, oblivious to the issue. BB tapped his shoulder and motioned towards the seat where CH was supposed to be sitting. F began to look around for their missing teammate as well.
F tapped BB’s shoulder and pointed towards the back of the theatre. BB turned his head and there was CH standing at the top of the stairs.
As soon as he noticed him, a spotlight flashed on, illuminating CH who was holding a large rectangle piece of paper up.
“What the...” BB was confused.
CH took the first paper and put it behind the rest of the stack, revealing the card behind it, which had something scribbled on it.
BB squinted up at the paper CH was holding up, but he couldn’t make out what it said. CH waved the paper a bit, like he was expecting a response.
“I can’t see it. You’re too far away.” BB called up to CH.
CH tilted his head and shuffled closer to BB and F.
“I still can’t see it.”
CH moved down a few more stairs before stopping again.
BB sighed. Even hypnotized CH somehow still managed to be a pain. “You’re going to have to come a lot closer if you want me to read that.”
This time CH went down more steps until he was only a couple rows above them. BB could finally read the sign CH was holding. ‘I’m not currently an organ donor, but I’d love to give you my heart’
… What?
BB’s mind went a bit blank with confusion, just what kind of moving was playing right now. BB risked a glance at the screen where he saw CH standing with the sign and himself standing in front of CH, clutching his hands together next to his face and one foot popped up. Even though he was wearing a mask, BB could just tell that the movie-him had a sappy, besotted expression on his face.
Great. They were in a freaking romcom.
