and the bird hit the ceiling | edit: 2/6/2026

Summary:

Nayuta decided to finally get it together and confess to his most desired distraction, everything went as he thought it would, but at the same time nothing did the way he’d actually like it to go...

Notes:

I seriously hate myself for this fanfic, but at least it is not Hurt No Comfort, so it could’ve been worse :D

Enjoy!

Edit:

I find this fanfic underwhelming enough to tell you, that I will try to expand it a bit sometime!
Honestly, I think it would do us all a favour, since seeing it perform the way it does, led me to believe none of us are enjoying it.
I currently do not have the time, but when I do find some, I will re-write it.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Work Text:

“—uta”

“—yuta”

“Nayuta!” Kanata snapped his brother out of his spiralling thoughts. “Are you okay? You’ve been acting weird lately,” he asked, his voice unusually soft, “I guess...”, “You guess? What’s wrong?” the older twin continued questioning him in worry. It was out of character for Nayuta to be this quiet and mentally absent, so of course his older brother would be worried.

“Nothing’s wrong, I’m leaving,” he replied coldly, still somewhat lost in thought. “Leaving? Where are you going?” asked Kanata, he didn’t want to be pushy, but he had no choice. Nauyta looked down at the floor, he did not know whether or not telling the truth would change anything, so he decided to just not say anything particularly useful or important, “You don’t have to worry, I’ll be back in less than an hour, you will probably be at work though,” he explained briefly. Not waiting for a response, he just left the apartment in silence.

Nayuta’s mind was going berserk, all the different scenarios playing out in his head. His heart was racing. He knew that he would be having a photoshoot soon, so he had to hurry. ‘I like you, sorry...’ What? No. He couldn’t possibly apologise in his confession, it’s the least attractive way to confess ever. ‘I think I’ve got a crush on you...’ Think? No, no, no, he knew he did. ‘I’m totally in love with you,’ “Hajun...”

He faced the tall, blonde man, they were standing in front of a slim, glass skyscraper – it was the headquarters of a clothing brand. If Nayuta was correct, older guy’s photoshoot should be starting in about fifteen minutes.

“What do you want?” the Korean asked harshly, the teen’s heart skipped a beat seeing Hajun this close, he was so handsome, stylish, beautiful... Nayuta could go on with the synonyms for hours upon hours.

“Oh, uhm... Could we talk somewhere more private?” the violet-eyed teen asked hopeful, he wanted for his crush to say ‘yes’, for him to grab him by the hand, hug him, kiss him... He knew it was terribly absurd, he knew the blonde was supposed to be a rich jerk, but one part of Nayuta idealised him, while the other simply hoped for everyone to be wrong about him.

“I don’t have the time,” said Hajun looking at his extra expensive watch, “If you want to say something, just spit it out,” he added, his voice cold and... annoyed...? Nayuta’s whole body was trembling a bit from all this stress. He couldn’t even look Hajun in the eyes. He didn’t know how to say it, but he knew he didn’t come all this way for nothing.

“I... I like you,” he began, his voice shaky and uncertain, “I really like you, a lot,” Nayuta continued, finally forcing himself to look at his crush, and he soon regretted that. The look on the blonde’s face was somewhat of a mix of disgust and amusement, the teen absolutely hated it.

Hajun laughed for a second, “I don’t date your kind, sorry,” he said, as he turned away and headed toward the building. He stopped for a moment and faced the teen once more, “No, but seriously, what did you even think would happen?” the man asked almost mockingly. He shattered Nayuta’s heart into a million pieces, it hurt. The light-haired teen was usually trying to be somewhat composed, one needs that for the streets, as it’s either that or being a fighter like Satsuki or Kanata. And yet, right then and there, his eyes soon filled up with tears.

Nayuta didn’t even really know what was happening around him on his way back home, he could only tell how much the tears were burning his eyes. When he entered the apartment, he leaned against the door and fell down to his knees. “Nayuta? What happened?” asked his brother in panic. He wasn’t supposed to be here, he wasn’t supposed to ever see Nayuta like this.

“K-Kanata...” he muttered, as he looked up at his twin, his eyes still filled with tears, a view Kanata had never seen before. “H-Hey, c’mere,” said the older brother gently, opening his arms for a hug. Nayuta hugged his brother tightly, he couldn’t stop the tears now. He knew he would have to explain everything to Kanata eventually, but not yet, no, all he could do at the moment was to cry, and so he did.

Notes:

If I were to have a brother, I’d like him to be Kanata.
