Work Text:
Kanata woke up exceptionally early, as he did not fall asleep as late as he usually would, surprisingly. He decided, that since he’d already eaten breakfast with Nayuta, he might as well go on a walk, as it was all sunny and nice. Huge mistake number one. It was unbearably hot, like he could melt any second.
Regardless, he had already told his brother he would go outside, so he couldn’t possibly go back home after just about a minute, now, could he? So he figured that his only real option is to cool himself down with a cold drink or ice cream. There was a grocery store two minutes away, perfect. Well, huge mistake number two. But he couldn’t know.
The light haired teen entered the store. He expected a chill breeze of the AC to hit him, and yet it didn’t, it was just as hot as it was on the street and the AC was out of service. Ideal moment for it to break, was it not?
All Kanata could hope for now was that all the ice cream and ice pops are not out of stock, which wouldn’t be surprising anymore with his luck being at the absolute minimum at that moment. Going through the store in the blue-hued lights, he went over to the freezers and let out a sigh of relief as he saw his very favourite ice pops. Right as he was about to open the freezer, he caught a glimpse of fiery-red hair slowly getting closer and closer. He knew who it was, he knew it very fucking well and he did not like it one bit. The teen put on a hood, despite the heat, and started walking away along the shelves.
“Hey, Kanata!”, so he turned around. Huge mistake number three. Why in hell was this red-haired idiot always there where Kanata was? Did he have no better things to do than to follow him around or something? Well, anyhow it was now too late to pretend he wasn’t here. “Suzaku...” he muttered, as he picked up a colourful can of soda from the shelf, he didn’t even want to buy it, but since he was supposed to be casually going this way, he could very well go along with it.
“Sooo, what are you doing here?” the B.A.E. member said awkwardly. Was he actually being for real? Did he seriously just ask Kanata what he was doing at a grocery store? The younger guy could feel the sweat forming on the back of his neck from wearing the hood, he returned the soda he was holding onto the shelf, took off the hoodie and tied it around his waist. “You’re a moron, it’s a fucking grocery store,” he said annoyed, “R-Right, yeah, sorry,” Suzaku answered even more awkward than before.
Kanata could feel the awful heat getting to him. He checked his right pocket – nothing, back pocket – also nothing, left pocket – bingo, a hair tie. The teen put the hair tie on his wrist and tied his hair into a short, low ponytail. Huge mistake number four. “You look good with your hair up,” said the older man, and so Kanata proceeded to aggressively untie his hair. Thanks to the stupid remark, he was still just as hot as ever, well, perhaps even more than he was earlier.
“So?” asked the teen, “What?” replied the red-head confused, “What do you want from me?” he expanded his question in the least helpful way possible. “Ah, I... I just wanted to say ‘hi’...” said Allen embarrassed. Kanata could feel his face heat up even more, he hated every second here.
“It’s not like we’re buddies,” said the light-haired teen, “Y-Yeah, I know,” Suzaku said, his voice almost disappointed...? It was difficult to figure out what he was on about, for Kanata at least. He went past Allen, grabbed an ice pop and went over to the cashier. The red-head went after him. The ginger’s palms were sweating and his heart was racing, but he knew, that despite everything that could possibly go wrong, he had to do it.
As they exited the store he grabbed Kanata’s wrist, “Fuck off, Suzaku!” He looked at the teen, he seemed unfocused, stressed maybe? “I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but just don’t,” said the younger one, he wanted to just go back home already. Suzaku’s hand slipped down into the teen’s warm hand, he made himself look at the boy.
“Kanata,” he began, “Do you wanna go out on a date?”, Kanata stared at him with his violet eyes for a moment, “Huh?”
