Summary:

"Gee, baby, I've never-"

"You've dyed your hair before!" the girl quickly cut her off.

"Yes, but I went to a salon for that, princess. I didn't do it myself. I'm not helping."

When she saw Gee's pouty lips and teary eyes, she gave in. It really didn't matter, Gee would probably fix it herself if she messed up.

Work Text:

Last night, Gee had bleached her roots so she could dye them blue the next day.

Currently, she was tugging on Frankie's sleeve, begging her Momma to help her dye it.

"Please, Momma! Pleaaaaaaseee! I don't wanna to it by myself!"

"You always do it yourself!"

"That's when I'm a big girl! Please, Momma!!"

Frankie sighed. She didn't wanna be too stern, Gee was too sensitive. But at the same time, she didn't wanna mess this up for Gee.

"..Go get on an old shirt. I don't want to stain any of your nice ones."

Gee's eyes lit up, and she jumped up and down lightly. "Thank you, Momma!"

"You're welcome, princess. Go get changed."

While Gee was getting dressed in their room, Frankie was searching through the drawer in their bathroom for the blue dye. Underneath all of Gee's black, there were three tubes of blue dye, unopened. They looked a bit light for what Gee had said she was going for the day before, but Gee was the one who knew about all of this. Not Frankie.

She found the bowl and brush as well, but no gloves. She didn't really care, though, this stuff could probably wash off easily. Gee walked into the bathroom around a minute later, in a new shirt and pajama pants.

"..Is that my shirt?" Frankie questioned.

"No," Gee giggled.

"Whatever, do you need me to get a chair, baby? So I can do your hair."

"Um, I can sit on the counter."

Frankie sighed, again. "That's alright, sweet pup, but it might be a bit hard for me to get in the back. Whatever you want, though."

They had spent around 20 minutes getting the dye applied. Gee whined every time Frankie tugged at her hair just a bit too hard, and Frankie quickly gave her a kiss and an apology every time to avoid the girl crying.

Gee was now on their bed, coloring and watching TV while she waited for Frankie in the kitchen, who was getting both of them some snacks.

Frankie came in with a bowl of salad for herself (she didn't eat dinner earlier), and some strawberries for Gee. She filled her sippy with some water as well, just in case.

She sat down next to Gee on the bed, taking a bite of her salad before glancing to see what she was coloring.

"What are you coloring there, pup?"

"Um," Gee fidgeted for a second, "Pinkie Pie.. an' Minty."

"Really? What are they from, angel?"

"My Little Pony. They're like us, kind of. Maybe."

Frankie giggled. "Is that so? Who am I then?"

Gee thought for a moment, then pointed at the green pony she was currently coloring. "Minty."

"Oh, she looks beautiful, baby. Just like you."

Gee kept coloring while she ate her strawberries. The TV was on some 1970s cartoon they both had watched far too many times, so many that Frankie could recite the script from memory. Frankie pulled her eyes away from the TV to glance at Gee, who was chewing on her shirt collar.

Frankie swallowed her food before speaking, "Do you need your paci, princess?"

When she recieved a small, timid nod, she reached into the drawer of their nightstand. Behind all of their pencils and hair ties and all that crazy skin care stuff Gee used, was a small plastic box. Frankie took the pacifier out, placed it in Gee's mouth and gave her a kiss.

Frankie checked her watch soon after. It was 9:12, and it was getting close to Gee's bedtime. They had the dye in for about half an hour now, so she figured they'd start their bedtime routine with a bath to rinse it out.

"Pup?" Frankie called out.

Gee made a muffled "huh," behind her pacifier.

"It's getting close to bedtime, alright? How about we go take a bath to rinse the dye out?"

Gee thought for a second before nodding, climbing off their bed to follow Frankie to the bathroom.

Frankie helped Gee out of her clothes and into the warm, bubble bath she had set up, and gave her some time to play around and just relax before she washed her hair.

It looked a bit.. teal.. but it would probably look better once Frankie had dried it.

It didn't look better at all.

Frankie got Gee out of the bathtub around 10 minutes later, got her dressed, and helped her blow dry her hair. If anything, it looked worse.

"Shit. Shit, shit, shit.."

"Don' say that, Momma!" Gee reminded her.

"Sorry, angel," Frankie replied, her concern only growing.

It didn't look blue at all. It was just straight teal. She tried avoiding Gee from looking in the mirror, just wanting to get their nighttime routine finished, but failed.

"Stoppp! I wanna see, Momma!"

When Gee looked in the mirror, it took her a second to notice the way her hair looked, and once she did, she didn't handle it well.

"That's not the color I wanted, Momma.." she said, her voice wobbly.

"I know, baby, I know, but it'll be alright, okay, angel? Tomorrow, we can cover it up with some of the black dye. I know you really wanted blue, but we can always try again some other day."

Gee thought for a moment before nodding. Frankie then took her back to their room so she could get her into her pajamas and get her into bed.

She got Gee into one of her nightgowns, put away the coloring books and pencils from earlier, and gave her the sippy of water from earlier as well.

While Gee crawled under the covers, Frankie dressed herself in her own pajamas and got Gee one of her stuffed animals from the small crate they had near their TV stand. It was grey tabby cat with sparkly black eyes.

"Do you want the TV on, angel?" Frankie asked her.

"Nuh-uh."

Frankie then shut the TV off, kissed Gee goodnight, and was ready to leave the room and let Gee sleep. But Gee didn't want her to leave.

"No!" she whined, tugging on Frankie's shirt, trying to pull her into bed.

"Baby, you know I got to-"

Gee cut her off with another whine, one that sounded like she was going to cry, and Frankie really didn't want that.

Reluctantly, she crawled under the covers along with Gee, holding the girl close to her chest. She began to wish Gee a goodnight, but she had already fallen asleep.

So, she gave Gee a few kisses to the top of her head, before shutting off the lamp on the nightstand and drifting off to sleep herself, with her angel close.
