Work Text:
Jongho laid on his back, a sea of red spreading around him.
He comes to himself slowly, world focusing after the dizzy spell. He looks down at his legs, at first he can't quite understand what he's seeing, there seems to be something sharp and white, like a stick, attached to his legs. He tries to move it and realises that it was his bone jutting out of his body. He lets his gaze slide further down, his car is overturned on the road.
'Oh, right, there was an accident.'
'No,' He turns his head sharply. There to his left, white hair blending into the snow, blood painting it maroon, lay his husband.
“ Yeosang..” He calls, it comes out more as a rasp, a pain in his chest that he had never felt before. He can feel his lungs against his broken ribs with every breath he takes, speaking becomes a task that feels heavier than tons of weight.
He reaches his hand out, slowly moving it inch by inch all while keeping his eyes on his beloved. To watch for any signs of life, see a twitch in his face that can reassure Jongho that he'll make it out alive.
Desperately, he holds his hand, squeezing it to get a reaction. When it doesn't work he slides his fingers up, feeling his wrist, looking for a sign, the slight jumps in his veins. What he finds instead is despair. The cold stillness of a person long gone, probably when Jongho was unconscious.
Pain grips his heart, more painful than any injury on his body, more painful than his shattered ribs, more painful than his broken arms and legs.
He holds Yeosang's hands, stares at him as tears mark their path on his face, blending with blood and the cold snow they lay in.
Something wet lands on his cheek, he looks up, looks at the first of many snowflakes falling on his face. Gently, painfully, like sorrow, like long held regrets, they fall.
He watches, breath slowing down, heart pumping less and less blood as it leaves his body. He watches one snowflake after another as it covers his lover. Helpless in doing anything but.
At one point he stops breathing entirely, eyes on his lover, a candle snuffed somewhere in the world, forgotten.
Their bodies lay together, one look at them and anyone can tell that they were lovers. Hands joined together, in life and death.
