"Kook, I'm begging you, don't go''.
Jungkook pursed his lips together. In one hand he held a rose; the other was clenched into a tight fist.
"I'm sorry Tae,'' he said, ''I'm going.'' He shook Tae's hand off his shoulder and pushed the door to the roof open.
"Fine, but I'm getting Jimin, hang on wait for us! Also if you end up dead in a ditch it's your own fault!!" Taehyung shouted as he ran down the stairs.
Jungkook flinched. He hoped he wouldn't end up like that.
The problem was Min Yoongi. He was such a nuisance, an annoying.....
Jungkook had fallen in love. Or maybe it was just an extreme crush? Either way, three months ago, at the start of the school year, Jungkook had noticed Yoongi near the school gate and his world came crumbling down.
Yoongi hadn't been wearing a school uniform, but he was talking to a small group of students. At first, Jungkook didn't pay much attention; there were rumors that students had an outside ''contact'' that would hook them up with drugs, parties, alcohol, girls, boys, anything they wanted for a small price.
After all, private school was stressful.
Back then, Yoongi had glanced at him, and Jungkook felt his heart stop. He was handsome and intimidating; his skin looked soft but his eyes were sharp. He had been wearing a simple black ensemble, save for the crisp white shirt and a few pins and patches on his black blazer. But what was most noticeable were the black finger-less biker gloves decorated with silver patterns (one of them had something embroidered on it) .
Yoongi's outfits changed, but his black gloves always seemed to be a part of his attire. Despite Yoongi's rather short stature, he carried himself as if he were the tallest and most important. If he wanted to, he blended in seamlessly with the students, sometimes brazenly sitting at a lunch table with his small in-school gang.
Jungkook tried to ignore the sudden infatuation. He was sixteen, weird shit always happened to his body, his hormones were raging and all that. It's what his friends Tae and Jimin had told him. "Give it a week or two and you'll be over him. You saw him from afar, like what, twice?" Jimin asked. Tae agreed with Jimin, and told Jungkook to just ride it out and that ''everyone gets a little gay feelings sometimes, and not gonna lie, Yoongi's hot looking.''
Jungkook tried to listen to his friends advice. He waited; first a week, then another, then another.....but Yoongi continued to be on his mind.
Second month into his absurd crush, he saw Yoongi playing basketball in a loose white shirt that showed off his collarbones and Jungkook had almost lost it on the spot.
"This can't be some kind of dumb one-sided crush!" Jungkook exclaimed, his hand in his hair. He had gone out to eat udon with Tae and Jimin.
"Sure it is!" Taehyung cheerfully said, ''you're just young and horny, happens to all of us-''
''No! It's not just that! Tae I can't stop thinking about him! I dream about him even-''
Jungkook trailed off when he realized Jimin and Tae were staring at him with their mouths open.
"You what?" Jimin asked.
"I...sometimes....have a dream...and then we kinda kiss and then I wake up-''
"Ok we get it! We're trying to eat here!" Jimin exclaimed, stuffing noodles into his mouth.
Tae turned to look at Jimin, his chopsticks hanging loosely in his hand. "Do you dream about me sometimes, Jiminnie?"
Jimin raised his eyebrows. "No-noooo?" He did his best to reply with his mouth full.
Tae let out a horrified gasp. "We've been best friends since birth and you don't dream about me? We're over."
While his friends bickered Jungkook quietly ate his noodles. He realized the only way to end his obsession with Yoongi (that's what it was now, he had to be honest with himself) was to just tell him.
At least if Yoongi punched him square in the face he'd probably get over him in a heartbeat, right?
And that was how he found himself courageously walking through the rooftop door. He was doing this.
Jungkook walked past the few students having lunch and made his way to the corner of the roof, where all the benches were. And where Yoongi sat with his gang.
On school grounds, Yoongi was almost never alone. There were third years huddled around him; some Jungkook recognized, others he didn't. But they always looked mean and scary and he was sure that if Yoongi snapped his fingers, they would beat the shit out of him in a minute.
"Hey! What do you want, first year?" A tall third-year approached Jungkook and towered over him, hands on his waist.
Jungkook gulped. Oh god, he was gonna die.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw Yoongi watching them. He was casually sitting on the bench and wearing that damned black outfit, similar to the one Jungkook saw him wear the first day he saw him. Jungkook noticed there were chains hanging from his belt, and a bunch of earrings lining the lobe of one of his ears.
"Well? Kid?" The third-year leaned in, staring Jungkook down.
"I-I w-want t-to talk t-o to Yoongi-ssi, i-if I c-can.'' Not only was Jungkook stammering, but he felt himself turning red. Great, just great.
The third year laughed in his face. "Nice try, get lost, or I will make you.'' The third-year pushed his hand against Jungkook's shoulder, causing him to stumble.
"Back the fuck off Park.'' Yoongi's deep, smooth voice sounded out. The intimidating third year moved away, and Jungkook saw Yoongi beckon him closer.
He inhaled sharply. Yoongi was so, so much more handsome up close. His features were sharp but delicate, and his lips were set in a slight, almost adorable pout. But his eyes, his eyes were what grabbed Jungkook's attention the most. Lined with black eyeliner, they had a wonderful, intense dark color and an interesting, almost triangular shape. They were simply really pretty.
Jungkook didn't realize he was staring silently until Yoongi repeatedly asked him what he wanted.
"I-I want to tell you s-something. P-privately.''
Yoongi raised his eyebrows. "What do you want to tell me that can't tell me here, with witnesses around?" Jungkook realized that Yoongi emphasized the ''witnesses'' part. Oh shit.
"I don't want to do anything! I just want to conf-tell you something...secret!" Smooth, smooth. He was going to get thrown off the roof and they would dump his remains in the river and he would never be found again.
"Stupid brat, do you think Yoongi will just come with you?!'' Jungkook heard heavy footsteps approach him from behind and he screwed his eyes shut, waiting for the first blow.
"And since when the fuck do you get to say what I do and what I don't?'' Yoongi spat out at the guy behind Jungkook. Jungkook heard the footsteps stop and the guy mutter some kind of apology, but Yoongi shut him up."Shut the fuck up all of you, I'm going to talk with.....what's your name?"
"J-Jungkook. Jeon Jungkook.''
''Right. With Jungkook and all of you can sit here on your fucking own. Meet up Firday before first class at the usual spot. Later.''
Yoongi got up, wiping the dust off his blazer. He then nodded towards the door. "Follow me.''
Quietly, Jungkook followed. At first he was confused as to where Yoongi was leading him; they went down the stairs, through the corridors and all the way to the back of the school building. And then he realized; Yoongi was leading him to the old factory.
For decades now, a huge factory stood abandoned behind the school. It was in the hands of a private owner who didn't seem to care what happened to it. Because of that, it was a fairly popular spot where students smoked, drank or even had sex in between lessons.
Yoongi glanced behind to see if Jungkook was still following, and then he ducked through the hole in the fence. Hesitantly, Jungkook followed. In theory, they were trespassing, but there were no cameras and it wasn't like anyone cared.
Finally, Yoongi stopped in what used to be a courtyard. The surroundings were bleak and grey and Jungkook felt a chill run down his spine. What if Yoongi took him all the way out here so no one would hear him if he screamed?
"So, Jungkook, talk. I'm open to business deals but I don't have all the time in the world, got that?''
Yoongi's voice was stern, but not necessarily unfriendly.
Jungkook gulped. "I-I don't have a business deal. I, well, I..''
"You're clutching that rose hard, your hand is bleeding.''
Jungkook looked down; out of his nervousness he forgot he was holding it in the first place. A small stream of blood could be seen trickling from his right hand.
Yoongi admonished him, ''that's a dumb way to hurt yourself you know.''
To Jungkook's surprise, Yoongi walked up and took the rose out of his hand. ''Hold it gently,'' he ordered, pushing the rose into Jungkook's other hand.
Stunned, Jungkook watched how Yoongi pulled out a tissue from his back pocket and dabbed Jungkook's palm with care.
Jungkook felt himself blushing furiously. "Agust D.....'' he muttered to himself, reading the inscription on the back of Yoongi's glove.
Yoongi left the tissue in Jungkook's palm. ''Yeah, that's my stage name. So Jungkook, what is it you want?''
There was a moment of silence before Jungkook mustered up the courage to speak. ''I- I wanted to give this rose to you, but it's all bloodied now so I guess I can't.'' Jungkook hung his head down shyly. This was a disaster. Even more so because Yoongi seemed to be actually a kind guy, so his rejection would hurt Jungkook even more.
He was never coming back to school.
Suddenly, Yoongi's hand was on his shoulder. "And why did you want give me the rose, Jungkook?''
Jungkook looked up. Yoongi was staring straight at him, which made him even more flustered.
He clenched the tissue in his hand. ''I-I like you a lot. I saw you a few months ago and I couldn't stop thinking about you, so I wanted to tell you that.'' The words came out fairly smoothly, but Jungkook felt like he had actually confessed to murder, not having a huge crush. He took in a shaky breath and decided that yes, now was a good time to run.
Only, before he could even attempt to do so, Yoongi took the rose from his hand, not minding the bloody stem.
With bated breath, Jungkook waited for him to say something, but he didn't. The silence stretched on and then Jungkook realized.
Yoongi was waiting for him to say something.
"That's all I wanted to say.'' Jungkook said quietly, willing the ground to swallow him whole. What would Yoongi do now? Throw the rose to the ground? Stomp it beneath his feet? Tell him he's disgusting?
None of those. Yoongi had a small smile on his face as he twirled the rose around in his gloved hand. ''I wasn't expecting a confession. You're the first to gather the guts to even approach me, let alone confess.''
Yoongi sighed and put his hand back on Jungkook's shoulder, startling him. "Look Jungkook,'' he began, ''I'm flattered, and you're a cute boy, but the fact remains, I'm four years older than you.''
Jungkook's eyes widened. "You're 1993?!"
Yoongi nodded. ''However, I'm not saying no. Let's just stick to getting to know each other first, yeah?'' He bent the stem of the rose and put it in the breast pocket of his blazer.
Jungkook felt a surge of joy rush through him. He was accepting!
Then, Yoongi leaned in and gave him a peck on the cheek. Jungkook let out a soft, surprised gasp. Absentmindedly, he reached up to touch his cheek.
"It really takes something to confess to someone who has the scariest reputation in school,'' Yoongi said, ''and even more courage for a guy to confess to another guy. I admire that. Some people would beat the shit out of you for it.''
Yoongi was smiling at him, and Jungkook was suddenly all flustered and his cheeks were burning and he was over the moon but also nervous and all he could manage to dumbly say was that he had a black belt .
Yoongi laughed. "You'll tell me more about yourself over lunch...'' Yoongi was patting his pockets, and then he swore under his breath. ''Fuck, left my phone on the roof. Come on, let's exchange numbers.''
Jungkook grinned.
When they got back to the roof they were met with chaos.
A small, thinned out crowd was surrounding Yoongi's posse and.....Tae and Jimin.
"For the last fucking time, where's Jungkook??!!" Tae was holding some guy by the collar and shaking him. Nearby, Jimin was sitting on another dude, painfully twisting the guy's hand behind his back. Two other guys were on the ground; one clutching his stomach, the other his bloodied nose.
"I don't fucking know and I don't care!!" The other guy yelled back. In response, Taehyung shook him harder, shouting some vague threats.
"Tae! Jimin!" Jungkook called out, pushing through the students. Yoongi was calmly trailing behind him, hands in his pockets.
Tae was angry. Incredibly angry. Jungkook forgot how scary he could get when it came to people he considered friends or family.
When he noticed Jungkook, Tae dropped the guy in an instant and ran up to him. "Christ I told you to wait for me and Jimin! Are you hurt-you are, what the hell did he do to you-''
"He cut your hand! I'll beat the shit out of him where is he?!'' Jimin had let go of the other guy and was scanning his surroundings for Yoongi. "THERE HE IS!" he shouted and started stomping towards him.
"NO!" Jungkook yelled, grabbing Jimin by his jacket. "He didn't do anything! I cut myself!"
"Because he made you?" Tae asked, glaring accusingly at Yoongi.
Yoongi didn't reply, but he had an amused look on his face.
"No he didn't GOD can you two calm dow-''
Then, to make matters worse, the guy with the bloodied nose started shouting,"Boss those little fuckers attacked us with no re-''
"QUIET, EVERYONE!" Yoongi barked, and everyone immediately shut up.
Yoongi sighed, walked past everyone, retrieved his phone from the bench, and turned to Jungkook. "What's your number?'' he asked in a calm voice, as if a couple of seconds ago there hadn't been mayhem everywhere.
Jungkook scrambled to get his phone out of his pocket (he had missed 50 calls from Tae and Jimin) while everyone stared in surprise.
The guy Jimin had been holding ran to Yoongi's side: "Boss, these, these shits came and just attacked us-''
''Did they now?" Yoongi asked, raising his eyebrow at Jimin.
"Hell no we didn't, we came and asked where Jungkook was, and they said you took him-'' Jimin began, but Tae interrupted him.
"And then said you were probably kicking his teeth out, so we got pissed, and then they said they would do the same to us-''
"I see. Thank you, Jungkook." Yoongi said while sending another smile to him, and Jungkook beamed. "I'll text you. Now-''
Yoongi turned to look at his group. ''Get yourselves cleaned the fuck up.''
"But-''
"NOW!''
Tae and Jimin flinched at Yoongi's shout, while Jungkook blissfully stared at Yoongi's number in his phone.
True to his word, Yoongi met up with Jungkook later (Tae and Jimin arrived as uninvited guests halfway through their meal, but luckily Yoongi didn't seem to mind).
As it turned out,Yoongi's ''gang'' was nothing more than a group of kids that Yoongi regularly met up with to spread the word about the location of the parties and any goods he had to offer.
"They actually think I'm a gang leader or something." Yoongi laughed. ''I'm nothing like that. I just try to make some money and show kids a good time.''
"Yeah, but you beat people up in school, right?" Jimin accused.
"I've never beaten up anyone.'' Yoongi said, and Jimin made an ''oh'' sound.
"Oh, I meant I never beat up anyone in school '' Yoongi grinned. Tae and Jimin stared, then turned to plead with Jungkook, talking over each other and saying he was bad news.
Jungkook tried to bargain with his friends, but it was finally Yoongi who cleared up the rumors
.
He claimed to set up parties that had alcohol, cigarettes and good music. "Not that I'm a saint, but I ain't into drugs, let's be clear about that.'' He hung around the school because while he did supply stuff, he also wanted to keep an eye on his younger brother.
Taehyung and Jimin weren't pleased, but they begrudgingly ''gave their blessing'', as Yoongi jokingly put it, for Jungkook to hang around Yoongi.
With time, Jungkook's crush mellowed; now that he was around Yoongi regularly, he was simply satisfied with just talking to him and being around him. Perhaps it was better they were just friends with similar interests in video games and music (even though it was hard to not sigh approvingly when he saw Yoongi undress in the locker room after a game of basketball).
Around Jungkook's 17th birthday, Yoongi quit coming to school.
"I've been doing this shit on and off since high school, Kook, but I gotta stop. It's not exactly an honorable thing to do even if it gives quick cash.''
To spend more time with Yoongi, Jungkook went to his underground shows where he rapped and even sometimes played the piano. Somehow, Taehyung and Jimin kept showing up too.
When Jungkook turned 18, Yoongi kissed him properly, passionately, and then asked if he'd like to try dating.
Jungkook gladly agreed.
