Work Text:

Falsch always rises before the sun does to bake some treats for high tea and make breakfast. Doing so meant that he would not have to fight with Sense as she attempted to lick whatever utensils she could get her hair on that looked to even remotely have cream. It also meant that he would not have to dance around Genau every time he went to the pantry to retrieve his morning tea.

As he rolled out the cookie dough, he heard the sound of footsteps approaching. Casting out his mana detection, he quickly identified the approaching individual as Methode. So she’s an early riser too…

Methode peered into the kitchen, quickly taking note of the numerous baking trays and mixing bowls lying about. “… Would you like some help?”

Falsch watched her momentarily. Although he wasn’t certain of her level of skill in the kitchen, surely she could handle a few basic tasks? “There’s an apron over there. You can help me line the baking trays with parchment.”

“Alright.”

Quickly getting to work, Falsch turned back to the cookie dough. He had cut several pieces out when he felt the telltale signs of a spell being cast. Whipping around, he watched as several sheets of parchment paper magically straightened then creased to fit the trays.

“So there’s a spell for something like that, hmm…” Falsch murmured.

“Mm-hmm!” Summoning a grimoire, Methode proudly showed off the book. “This grimoire has a bunch of spells that are useful in the kitchen!”

“... Please keep books outside the kitchen.”

“Yes, sir!~”

=====

On another early morning, Falsch was mixing batter for blueberry muffins when Methode entered the kitchen once again.

“Would you like some help?”

“Mm… help me start the oven.”

“Alright.”

This routine had become commonplace, as morning after morning passed.

While Methode magically kindled a fire in the brick oven, Falsch began pouring the batter into the muffin tray. Sliding the tray into the oven, both mages stood back once Falsch positioned the tray.

Methode reached into the cupboards, pulling out Genau’s tea set. Watching the blonde begin steeping the tea leaves, Falsch asked something that had been sitting in his mind for a while.

“… Methode, how do you get Genau to listen to you?”

Upon being met by a questioning gaze, Falsch elaborated further. “Genau hasn’t been sneaking food from the pantry lately. I heard from Sense that you had somehow managed to make him comply with your requests.”

“Oh. Well, I don’t have any specific method, if that’s what you were hoping for. But if you’re having trouble with Mr. Genau, then you can always come find me.” Methode pointed towards the mixing bowl and baking utensils in the sink, using a spell to clean them.

Falsch adjusted his glasses. “… It’s not him. You see, Sense can be quite the stubborn girl. We often get into small arguments because of this.”

“Oh, my,” Methode raised a hand to her mouth. “So you have that kind of relationship with Ms. Sense, hmm?”

“Erm...”

“Well, anyway, you would probably have better luck asking Mr. Genau. Even I don’t know what he’s thinking sometimes.”

“So that’s how it is…”

Silence cloaked the kitchen. Falsch brought the muffins out.

“Mr. Falsch,” Methode started.

“Hmm?”

“Although you may find Ms. Sense’s personality to be troubling at times… I don’t think you would trade it for anything else in this world. After all,” Methode smiled, leaning back on the counter. “That’s the kind of relationship you have with her.”

=====

Falsch watched the scene in front of him with enough interest to wake Sense from her half-asleep state.

“Mr. Genau, good morning~”

“Good morning.”

She got a greeting from this cold, aloof person...

“I made your tea.”

“Thank you.”

This cold, aloof person thanked her...

Genau magically lifted the teapot, pouring a cup of tea and levitating it into Methode’s hands.

“Thank you~”

... Are they married? Falsch couldn’t think of any other reason. This was practically a scene straight from a play script.

“This is painful to watch,” Sense remarked. “That stupid man won’t do anything. They should just get married.”

“Sense, watch what you say.”

“Which part? The pain, stupidity, or marriage one?”

Falsch sighed. “All of them.”

“There’s nothing wrong with what I said. It’s all true.”

“It’s based on your opinion.”

As Sense glared at him while munching into a muffin, Falsch couldn’t help but think back to Methode’s earlier words. So it’s like this, huh…

“Sense, stop eating over the books, you’ll make a mess…”
