Work Text:
Wooyoung knew it was a bad idea to try to challenge Yunho, but God, did it bring him the highest of thrills.
"I drive better than you anyway. So..."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, oh. Bitch boy."
So, there sat a clearly exasperated Seonghwa in his weirdly luxurious emerald green robe alongside Hongjoong who certainly had an ambulance already on call. Such parents.
Wooyoung stuck his head out from the window and flashed a middle finger straight Yunho's way, an incredulously loud cackle escaping his lips as he tried to taunt the older man.
Yunho didn't even seem bothered whatsoever. He looked over in Wooyoung's direction, his eyes drooping from boredom. Well that's what it'd look like from an outsider's perspective.
But not Wooyoung. They've been together for nearly seven years, he sees all the tiniest of things possible. Why do you think he was awarded as the best gift giver amongst Ateez?
Wooyoung watched the ever-so subtle twitch of his left eye, it's always his left eye when he's clearly annoyed. He could see the way he professionally put a smile on his face. That same smile that'd throw Atinys off and send them screaming to the moon.
But Wooyoung could see the slight strain there, the forced chill intent behind it.
I know you, Jeong Yunho.
San and Mingi were obviously hyping the entire event to its very limit. Screaming up an entire storm and even mockingly singing and dancing both competitors' parts of Adrenaline.
Wooyoung could feel goosebumps slithering all the way up from his toes to his forehead as he turned in his seat. His hands came up and curled around the steering wheel, the expensive leather smooth against his palms. He shuffled his hips back, preparing to get comfortable.
This was going to be fun.
Jongho came forward, stood between both cars with a flag Wooyoung was sure staff had prepared in case of any event that needed it. Like right now, surprisingly enough. The younger man glanced between both cars, creating intense anticipation that had even Yeosang joining in with the two idiots bouncing about and screaming.
Wooyoung looked from the corner of his eyes, watching the way Yunho had his large hands practically engulfing the wheel. His jaw was set tight, and Wooyoung had to admit, it really did make that jawline pop. Atiny was right, unfortunately, he was very sexy when he was mad or serious. Thank goodness his thoughts couldn't be said out loud, they didn't need to know that.
"If you get hurt, don't come home!" Seonghwa yelled out, his hands cupped around his mouth. Both Yunho and Wooyoung let out a huff, already knowing that even if they did avoid any sort of injury, Seonghwa would still check up on them and usher them straight back home where it was safe.
He'll get his hyung an apology gift afterwards, his blood pressure's been too high lately.
Jongho raised the flag up high above his head, forcing both men to quickly switch over their attention to what they dragged everyone outside for.
Wooyoung could feel himself shivering, could feel the rhythmic, chest-thumping idle of the engines, could feel it vibrating through his very ribcage, and a tiny voice in that back of his head was saying: Could this possibly kill me? Well, at least go out with a bang.
Jongho's flag came down like a guillotine, and off they went.
Wooyoung slammed down on the gas, sending the car lurching forward and emitted a vigorous roar from the engine, ripping up the pavement beneath the grip of the tires.
He sat up with a devilish grin on his face, his body leaning in so close that his chest was practically pressed up against the steering wheel, whilst his foot threatened to burst a hole straight through the bottom of the car with how aggressive he was pressing down on the pedal.
Nothing, absolutely nothing was going to deter him from winning this, nobody even death itself. Which Hongjoong would smack his head upside about, but hey, a win's a win at the end of the day.
And right now, first place tasted sweet on his tongue, ignoring the bitter smell of putrid gas in the air. Should've kept the window shut, huh? Whatever. A short huff escaped his lips, his grin sharpening.
Then, he heard it. Or moreso, saw it.
Nothing happened in slow motion like often portrayed in movies.
No, nothing like that.
It was quick. Humiliating enough to freeze hell over and burn heaven into smithereens.
Yunho whizzed past at breakneck pace, forcing Wooyoung to eat the very dust from his tires.
Wooyoung felt a headache coming on from how hot he felt currently. He clenched his jaw, lifting his foot from the pedal for a second before shoving it straight down, tightening his body to prevent himself falling back from the severe g-force.
The engines were practically screaming at this point, these types of cars weren't built for this purpose. Yes, they did just ask the staff for any car that could go extremely fast, never explained a singular thing and they knew not to ask, just offer. Maybe they should've been more specific, but thinking wasn't a thing at that moment, just competition.
Wooyoung narrowed his eyes, watched as Yunho's car slowed by just an inch.
They were approaching a sharp hair-pin turn.
Wooyoung took his chance right then and there.
He sped up, coming closer to Yunho before tucking in directly behind his rear bumper. The younger man's vision narrowed to the red glow of his rival's taillights and the screaming vibration of the steering wheel against his palms, striking all the way up his arms.
As they approached the corner, Wooyoung took a deep breath and held it. This could either result in a horrible crash that he's sure nobody would forgive him for, or the biggest ego boost yet.
Wooyoung doesn't slow down. He watches the dark smoke plumes from the front tires as they protest against the friction.
And just as he had suspected, as they approached the apex of the turn, Yunho steered toward the inside to try to block him off.
Wooyoung couldn't help but to let out a laugh, oh God, he was so fucking predictable. A flaw of Yunho's was that once he was winning, his strategy stayed on exactly that, taking all chances to block all outsiders.
Wooyoung's grin returned tenfold. He flexed his fingers against the sweetly smooth leather as he played out his win.
He moved, faking to the inside to throw Yunho off, who was then forced to take a sharp, slow angle.
Then, Wooyoung swung wide and cut back under him. Anticipation crackling then snapping like a rubber band.
He let out a slightly crazed and breathless laugh as he exited the corner with more momentum.
He was a few seconds away from the finish line, tears in his eyes as he floored it with as much power as he body had left.
Oh, Yunho would never hear the end of that very moment. Thank goodness for criminal TV shows!

Wooyoung bit into his burger, a loud sigh escaping his lips as he slumped his chair, drowning in the essence of his victory in the air.
Yunho now stood in the center of their dance room, a slight pout on his face with arms all crossed. Wooyoung quickly took out his phone and snapped a quick photo.
"Go on!" He commanded, a shit-eating grin on his face. The members all stood besides and behind him, San's arms lazily draped over his shoulders.
Yeosang shuffled to the laptop, and on came Daijyobanai through the speakers. Hongjoong took his phone out to record.
Aegyo, Yunho's worst enemy.
Wooyoung clapped his hands along to the song, watching with his eyes near damn shut from how big he was smiling. Everyone burst out into laughter around him, watching Yunho prettily twirl around and act all cutesy.
He took another bite of his burger, pride clear in his eyes.
Oh, risking his life was so worth it.
