Work Text:

A soft tapping fills the room, barely noticeable unless you’re listening for it specifically. Reluctantly, Baablu pulls himself out of bed— shoving the sheets to one side and then walking the few steps to his window. Outside he can see a green figure hanging onto a tree branch, one arm extended to the window.

“…hey!”

Boosfer is there in a seemingly effortless way— which Baablu KNOWS isn’t true. He’s seen Boosfer cling onto this same branch like a terrified cat. He’s seen Boosfer fall from this tree countless times. He’s forcibly cleaned every wound Boosfer has the misfortune of receiving from this tree, so he’s seen exactly how ‘effortless’ this is. These facts don’t help his racing mind, though. All his brain can come up with is: “ooh pretty boy outside my window, let him in!” … So he does.

Baablu unlocks the window and pushes it open before going back to his bed, sitting down with his back against the wall. He watches as Boosfer crawls in through the opening and then shuts the window behind him. Boosfer quickly runs to Baablu’s bed, taking his seat against the wall.

Baablu’s head follows Boosfer the entire time, watching his grin expand at the mere sight of Baablu. He noticed the mismatched socks, one grey and the other a dark green. He noticed Boosfer’s pocket sagging with the weight of his phone— likely the only thing he brought here. He saw the way Boosfer practically bounced onto the bed rather than walked like any normal human.

But of course Boosfer isn’t any normal human. He’s reckless, chaotically strategic, insane, and he’s all Baablu has ever wanted. They’ve been friends for years and Baablu has been forced to watch Boosfer go through girl after girl and sit there with the information that he loves Boosfer.

He loves Boosfer like a shadow loves the sun. Wherever you see light you’ll see a shadow casting down, always present— reliable. He’s expected to be wherever Boosfer is but he isn’t expected to BE with Boosfer. The sun looks better with the moon, or the clouds, or perhaps even the horizon.

Boosfer slides down the wall, his head landing on Baablu’s shoulder with a bit more force than necessary. He glances to the side and sees Boosfer’s eyes gleaming up at him, some emotion he’s never been able to guess mixed with the typical mischief. Baablu rolls his eyes, a fond smile spreading across his face.

“Y’know I was trying to sleep.”

Baablu turns his head fully towards Boosfer, soaking in his expression. Boosfer was beautiful, addicting in a way that Baablu knew was dangerous. Boosfer’s laugh was like nicotine, one giggle and he knew he was beyond rescue. Not that Baablu even wanted to be saved, he’s completely content sitting right by Boosfer’s side.

Boosfer scoffs, pushing into Baablu suddenly. It’s hard enough to hurt but Baablu won’t complain about it. He likes the pain, likes the bruises he gets from Boosfers roughness. He presses into the marks, tracing them to remember the times they’ve had together.

“As if. You were definitely waiting for me to show up.”

He feels a sudden rush of heat flush his cheeks and shoulders. Baablu chokes back an embarrassed noise. There’s no way Boosfer knows that, even if it is true. Even if Baablu was horrifically exhausted but stayed awake just for the few hours he got with Boosfer. Even if this is the highlight of his day. Even if this isn’t the first time he's stayed up and definitely won’t be the last.

Baablu shoves back into Boosfer this time, matching the amount of force Boosfer put. They fall back into their original positions only this time Baablu swears the room got significantly more warm.

“Bro what? No I was not—“

Boosfer’s laugh cuts him off, body shaking with how hard he’s heaving. Baablu’s eyes wander to Boosfer’s lips. The way they curl at the edges, the way his teeth show slightly as he laughs, the way he smiles— all teeth and malice.

“Oh my god you soooo were!”

Baablu groans before dragging his hands down his face, embarrassment and agitation flooding his system. Boosfer doesn't stop, instead he only laughs harder. Baablu moves his hands away just to see Boosfer lean forward, grabbing his stomach.

“Fuck you, man. You're such a dick.”

Baablu turns and lays down on his back, staring at the ceiling. If anyone asked he'd say his back was hurting. If anyone asked he'd ignore the way his heart is racing, ignore the way his mind is filled with fantasies of kissing that smirk right off his face.

Boosfer had a girlfriend, he shouldn't be thinking of him like this. It's wrong to ruin a relationship. It's wrong to feel this way towards his best friend, all of this is wrong.

Baablu feels Boosfer climbing on top of him, swinging one leg over his stomach and placing his hands on either side of Baablu's head. He smells like wet grass and dirt, both are likely a consequence of him sneaking out and climbing a tree to get here.

“Aww it’s okay if you missed me.”

Boosfers face fills his vision. Overconfident in such a stupid way that he doesn’t think anyone else could replicate it. Boosfer gets close, too close. Baablu can smell his breath, can feel the coolness of it fanning against his face.

“Boosfer-“

Baablu starts but cuts himself off. No, if Boosfer was gonna play games like this then Baablu could play too. Boosfer wanted a reaction, this much was obvious. What better reaction than to play along? And if Boosfer finds him disgusting then at least he can play it off as a joke.

“Yeah. Y’know what, I did miss you.”

Boosfer pauses, his smirk faltering the smallest bit and it feels like a win. He rebounds quickly though, doubling down and lowering his voice to a whisper.

“Yeah? How much?”

Baablu represses a shiver at the words. Fuck he was so in love with this man. At this point he’s given two options: Back away or double down. And, well, he’s never been a quitter.

Baablu’s hand trails up Boosfer’s chest before grabbing ahold of his shirt and forcibly bringing him down. Their lips press together for one blissful second, one second that gives Baablu a taste of his fantasies— just real this time.

Boosfer pulls away, though and Baablu tries not to look heartbroken. Boosfer’s eyes are as wide as saucers, the glimpse of mischief no longer present. He got his wish in some fucked up way. Baablu kissed the smirk right off his face— just not in the way he’d hoped.

“You— I—“

Boosfer splutters out, seemingly trying to make sense of the strange stunt Baablu just pulled. Instead of answering, explaining— really anything that might’ve been helpful, he laughs.

He laughs harder than he has in a very long time. Hard enough to shake Boosfer, who’s still sitting on his stomach. Tears spring to his eyes and he hopes that Boosfer thinks it’s just from how hard he’s laughing.

After far too long Baablu calms down, his laughter fading into silence. They stare at each other after that, waiting for the other to fill in the space between them.

It's awkward and uncomfortable in a way it's never been before. They've always had a good dynamic, always able to fill in for the other in all the ways they lacked. Ever since first meeting there's never been a quiet moment, not one like this.

Boosfer shifts a bit, his body scooting backwards but not off of Baablu. Baablu's hands hover above Boosfer's hips before moving to rest on the bed. He's done enough damage today, it isn't wise to push his luck any further.

Boosfer's face finally changes from confused to something more serious– it's something Baablu's never seen on him before and it's a bit unnerving.

“Do you mean it?”

Boosfer's voice is uncharacteristically quiet and shaky. His hands land on top of Baablu's, not really holding but rather just laying there. Baablu stares up at Boosfer, stares at the boy who he's always called a best friend even if he's wanted more.

He doesn't want to ruin them. He doesn't want Boosfer to hate him. He doesn't want to lose Boosfer– he CAN'T lose Boosfer. He's all Baablu has and suddenly his split second decision is putting all of that on the line.

It's either he's honest or he lies. He loses Boosfer or he doesn't. Baablu doesn't want them to end like this. He doesn't think he can stomach watching Boosfer climb right back out the window knowing he's never coming back but…

But he's too far in and it's too late to go back to normal. Baablu takes a breath, readies the words he wants to say, and begins speaking.

“It was real- IS real. I love you, Boosfer. And I get that you probably don't feel the–”

Boosfer leans down, grabbing Baablu's chin and pressing their lips together. Baablu is able to enjoy it much more this time. He's able to savor the salty taste on Boosfer's lips. Baablu can memorize the spaces where Boosfers been biting his lips, either out of nerves or just to see what his own flesh tastes like.

After a few minutes Boosfer sits up, cheeks slightly flushed and lips parted. Baablu thinks this is what it's like to look at an Angel in the sky. Something that seemed so out of reach, so unobtainable you never quite tried. Although Angel doesn't fit Boosfer.

Baablu reaches back up, grabbing his shirt again and pulling him down for a third kiss. No, Boosfer is no Angel. The kiss tastes of sin, of deceit and love and the type of beauty that Lucifer is made of.

Boosfer isn't an Angel but Baablu will worship him like one.

Boosfer pulls away again, staring down at Baablu with a sort of awe on his face. Boosfer finds Baablu's hands, grabbing them and forcibly sitting them on his hips. Baablu smiles up at him.

“See? I knew you missed me.”

Boosfer's voice is teasing again, although it's lighter this time. The air around them isn't nearly as heavy, the guilt and shame from earlier no longer present.

Baablu rolls his eyes but there's no annoyance in it, only a fond kind of affection. You can practically hear the relief in his voice.

“Uh huh. And we're gonna pretend like it isn't you who crawls through my window nearly every night?”

Boosfer scoffs and swings his leg off of Baablu, laying down beside him instead. Baablu turns his head to look at Boosfer and Boosfer does the same. Their eyes meet, sitting in silence for a moment. Baablu inches his hand closer to Boosfer’s, slowly intertwining their fingers so he has enough time to pull away.

Boosfer’s hand tightens around Baablu's, a small smile spreading on his face.

They've got a million things to figure out. Boosfer’s girlfriend, their label, coming out– the list goes on. But right now they just need a minute. Right now they'll lay together and soak in each other's company, they'll laugh like they're best friends but kiss like they're something more.

They've got forever to figure the rest out and only a few hours to just be this.
