Chapter Text
“Izuku, make sure you’re ready for the exam!”
“I know, Mom, I’m just making a few last-minute notes on my magic!”
“Well, be sure to finish quickly! The exam starts in an hour!”
Izuku poked his head out. “Wait, really? I thought it was earlier.”
Inko opened her mouth to respond when she was interrupted by a knock at the door. “I’ll get that, you just finish getting ready.”
She opened the door to see Bakugo Katsuki standing outside. “Oh, hello Katsuki. Izuku’s just finishing getting ready. Come in, I’ll get you something to drink.”
“Thanks, Auntie.”
Bakugo sat down at the table as Inko walked into the kitchen. She returned with a glass of water. “Here you are. Thank you for stopping by.”
Bakugo snorted. “It’s no big deal. Just wanted to make sure the nerd knew it was today.”
Izuku walked out to the dining room. “I knew it was today, Kacchan. I just couldn’t remember exactly when it was.”
Bakugo set his glass down. “Even the mecha pervert knew what time it was at today, and she’s not even going for the hero class.”
Izuku laughed. “Really? Why would she- ah, she was looking forward to using UA facilities, wasn't she? Right, let’s get our butts in gear then. We got an exam to smash!”
Bakugo grinned. “Now you’re speaking my language!”
---------------------------------------------{Scene Break}--------------------------------------------------
“Alright, Kacchan, I’ll see you inside.”
“See ya later, Broccoli-head.”
As Izuku made his way inside, he noticed a couple girls off to the side caught up in an argument.
A petite pink-haired girl with a shrill voice had her arms crossed and was trying to persuade her friend. “Come on, Yuri! You promised you’d take the exam with us!”
The tall purple-haired girl fiddled with her hair. “I don’t know, what if I lose control of myself?”
Izuku decided to walk over. “If I may, what type of ability do you have? I’m quite good at analyzing things and could possibly give a couple ideas on how to control it better if that’s your issue.”
The small girl whirled around. “Hey! We never asked for your help!”
“Natsuki! Stop being hostile to everyone!” Yuri scolded. “I’m sorry about her. My quirk is called Psychic Dominion. It allows me to use almost every mind-based power you can name, excluding memory rewriting. But…”
Natsuki sighed. “She runs the risk of losing control every time she draws on it too much, basically making her go insane.”
Izuku thought for a moment. “Well, seeing as how the practical will most likely be a battle, I don’t see how you would need any aspect except telekinesis. I would recommend drawing less when you start to get a headache, as that’s the usual telltale sign for mental quirk overuse.”
Natsuki lit up. “Hey, she always mentioned headaches before! Thanks for the heads up!”
Yuri blushed. “N-Natsuki, he didn’t need to know that!”
Izuku waved his hand in a dismissive gesture. “It’s fine, my mom has a mental-type quirk. Now, I suggest we get moving, lest we be late. We can continue talking on the way.” He started walking, gesturing for the two girls to follow him.
As they were walking, Natsuki piped up. “So, are you here taking the exam on your own, or do you have friends doing it too?”
Izuku laughed. “I’ve got some friends here as well. One of them is very… explosive, and one is very… uh, I guess you could call her inventive and intense?”
Natsuki smiled. “I’m here with Yuri and two others. One of them is going for the support course, and the other is going for the hero course like us.”
Izuku paused. “If I may, what are all of your powers?”
Natsuki looked at him. “I’ll tell you if you tell me yours.”
“Deal.”
“My power is called Sweetness. It allows me to create pastries, baked goods, anything related to them, and it makes me really good at baking. Monika is the one going for the support course, and hers is called Literature Admin. It allows her to open a diagnostic window on anything and edit its parameters however she wishes. Lastly, Sayori is the one going for the hero course with us. She calls her power Rain Clouds. It gives her power over the weather in a small area. She seems to always use thunderstorms over everything else, though.”
“Those are all some really versatile powers!” Izuku smirked. “My ability is magic.”
Yuri gasped. “You’re a magic-user?”
Izuku nodded. “That I am. One of the few, and even better, I have access to more than one. Lightning, Water, and Ice.
Yuri looked like she was about to combust at this point. “YOU HAVE TO TELL ME MORE!!!”
Izuku laughed. “I will, I will. After the exam.” He gestured to the auditorium door in front of him. “After you, ladies.”
Natsuki handed Izuku a small croissant before walking to her seat. “For good luck. I hope to see you in class.”
Izuku tossed her a small ice cube in response. “Likewise. May the odds be ever in your favor.”
“Hey wait a minute! What's with the ic-”
“Nope, we can talk later.”
---------------------------------------------{Scene Break}--------------------------------------------------
Izuku was waiting at the test gate, mentally preparing his list of moves and strategies. ‘It’s most likely going to be something like robots, so Lightning should be effective, but I need to have my other elements on standby just in case.’ As he’s thinking, icy crystals started to swirl around his lower legs and feet, his left hand started dripping water, and his right hand started emitting purple sparks.
“Hey, Green Guy! I never got your name!” A shrill voice called from behind him.
He turned to see Natsuki in a form-fitting pink tracksuit. “Ah… I’m Midoriya Izuku. I don’t think I got your whole name either?”
Natsuki smiled and held up a peace sign with her left hand. “Amai Natsuki! Don’t forget it!”
Izuku stopped for a moment. “Wait a second, isn’t that just the word for ‘sweet’?”
“You’re one to say that? Your name has the word for ‘green’ in it!”
At that moment, the test gate opened, and over the intercom, a voice sounded. “ALRIGHT LITTLE LISTENERS, GO!!”
Izuku leapt out, Natsuki hot on his tail, while the other examinees fumbled briefly before hearing Present Mic yell, “THERE’S NO COUNTDOWN IN REAL LIFE! GO GO GO!”
“Hey, Amai-san, you wanna work together?!”
“Sure! And call me Natsuki!”
“On your left! Tempest Spear!” Natsuki heard a crackling sound and a javelin made of purple lightning flashed past her ear, sticking into a one-pointer that had nearly grabbed her, throwing it back and blowing it to pieces. “If I’m going to call you Natsuki, then you can just call me Izuku.”
Shortly after, both of them heard a loud thunderclap, and looked up to see another zone covered in large thunderclouds. Natsuki laughed. “Sayori’s hard at work.”
Izuku flicked her shoulder. “Like we need to be? Come on.” He ran off, the petite girl sticking as close as she could without losing him.
Most of the test consisted of the two of them fighting the robots together and saving other examinees from sticky situations, with lightning, ice, water, and baked goods flying every which way. Natsuki also made good use of her small stature, learning to sneak up behind some of the robots and hit the power button hidden on their backs.
---------------------------------------------{Scene Break}--------------------------------------------------
“So, what do we make of this year’s examinees?” A small animal spoke.
“They’re certainly… interesting.” A buxom woman spoke, before fixing her eyes on the screen showing Izuku and Natsuki fighting back to back. “Those two in particular. The boy fights with lightning, water, and ice, and the other fights with… are those muffins?”
A man dressed in black and wearing a scarf opened two files before responding. “Those two are Midoriya Izuku and Amai Natsuki. Amai’s quirk is listed here as Sweetness, allowing her to conjure baked goods and most things related to them. Midoriya Izuku is listed as quirkless, but a note underneath says that he is a magic-user with access to Lightning, Water, and Ice, of the purple, spring, and glacial varieties. He’s listed as having attended Kuoh Middle, while Amai attended Doki Academy.”
“LET’S FOCUS ON A FEW OTHER EXAMINEES FOR A BIT YOU TWO!”
The man clad in black nodded. “Agreed, there’s other good examinees. Ones with great control, power, and technique.”
Three cameras were his focus as he spoke. The first showed a girl with short strawberry blonde hair shorting robots with rain and lightning, the second showed a girl with long purple hair floating off the ground with debris swirling around her, crushing a three-pointer with telekinesis, and the third showed a girl with long blonde hair tied up in a ponytail, destroying all the hydraulics on a 2-point robot before using it as a bat, smacking others into the air towards a non-populated section while mouthing 'Home run!'.
The small animal laughed. “Well, I say it’s time to see how they fare against the true test of this exam. Nemuri, if you would.”
The buxom woman walked over to the control panel and hit a big red button.
---------------------------------------------{Scene Break}--------------------------------------------------
Natsuki and Izuku were finishing off a group of robots, when suddenly the ground started to shake. “Izuku, what’s happening?” She got no response.
Natsuki turned around. “Izuku, what’s… oh.” As she turned around, she spotted the massive robot towering over the buildings.
Izuku whirled around to face Natsuki. “We have to go see if anyone needs help! I saw pieces of buildings fall off because of that!”
“Are you CRAZY!? You’re going to get yourself hurt!”
“I don’t CARE! Someone may need help!” He turned back around and ran off.
Natsuki sighed. “Oh, what the hell.” She ran after him.
Izuku dodged and weaved through the crowd running away from the zero-pointer, making his way toward the destruction.
“Help… my leg is stuck…”
Izuku whipped his head in the direction of the voice. Underneath a building, a girl with short purple hair was stuck under a large piece of debris.
Izuku bolted towards the girl. “Alright, I’m here to help you. Stay as still as possible.” He attempted to lift the large piece of debris, albeit with no such luck.
Natsuki arrived shortly after, seeing Izuku attempting to help. “Izuku! What’s the situation?”
“Her leg is stuck and I can’t get the debris off!”
There was a loud crash and both students looked to see the zero pointer about 4 buildings over.
“Natsuki.”
“What?”
“You stay here with her, I’m going to hold that thing off.”
“No, your lightning won’t work on it, even if you hit it with water first! You can’t!”
Izuku smiled. “It will, I haven’t been using my full strength. I won’t get injured. I promise, Natsuki.”
Natsuki hesitated. “Alright, Mr. Hero. You’re lucky I’m way stronger than I look. I’ll get this off her, you go stop that robot.”
Izuku nodded before running out into the street. “HEY!”
The zero-pointer directed its single, unblinking, red eye onto Izuku.
“I hope you’re ready to feel the full might of my GATHERING STORM!!!!” As Izuku says this, he jumps into the air, conjuring a spear and spinning, before throwing it with a massive thunderclap. The spear stuck into the zero-pointer’s head, before a bolt of lightning came down from the sky, striking the spear and directing all of the electricity into the zero-pointer’s circuits.
Almost immediately, the zero-pointer’s eye started to flicker, before the robot started to fall backwards. Izuku landed on the ground, running back to Natsuki and the girl.
Natsuki slapped his arm. “Why didn’t you use that during the test?” That’s when she realized he was swaying.
“Takes… almost all of my energy…” Izuku fell over.
“AND THAT’S TIME, LITTLE LISTENERS! RECOVERY GIRL IS ON HER WAY TO HEAL ANY INJURIES YOU MAY HAVE!”
Natsuki turned to the girl. “Can you stand?”
The purple haired girl shook her head. “I think my ankle is broken.”
The petite girl sighed. “Well, while we’re waiting for Recovery Girl, I may as well introduce myself. I’m Amai Natsuki. My friend who saved us both is Midoriya Izuku.”
“I’m Jirou Kyouka. Thanks for the help.”
Right after she said that, an elderly woman approached them. “Need any help, dearies?”
Jirou nodded. “I think my ankle is broken.”
“Well, that certainly won’t do.” Recovery Girl’s lips extended out and kissed Jirou’s cheek, her leg healing soon after. She held out a couple gummies. “Eat these to help with your energy, my quirk uses your stamina to heal you, so you may feel very tired.”
Jirou popped the gummies into her mouth with a nod.
The old woman turned to Natsuki. “Anything wrong with you?”
She shook her head. “No, but my friend here passed out after shorting out the zero-pointer.”
“Nothing I can do there, unfortunately.”
Izuku groaned and slowly opened his eyes. “Why do I feel like a truck hit me?”
Natsuki huffed. “Oh, good. You’re awake. You threw a giant spear at the zero-pointer and shorted it out,” she said as she helped him up. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”
“Um, Natsuki?”
“What?”
“I’m having trouble standing on my own.”
She sighed. “I’ll help you walk.”
---------------------------------------------{Scene Break}--------------------------------------------------
Natsuki and Izuku made their way to the entrance, where they were greeted by two groups of people. A group of three women, and Bakugo slightly off to the side.
Bakugo laughed. “You use your super move again, nerd? I warned you not to, this is what happens every time. Also, who’s this chick?”
One of the women, the one with short strawberry blonde hair, whirled around. “Natsuki!!! There you are!” Then she spotted Izuku, and a teasing grin grew on her face. “Ooooh, already found a boyfriend?”
Natsuki and Izuku both flushed red and started vehemently denying it, but in the chaos, Natsuki let go of Izuku, and he fell to the ground as a result.
“Ow… Kacchan, can I get a little help here?”
He chuckled. “Yeah, I got you. I’ve also got an energy drink here if you need that, nerd. I know how much your magic takes out of you.”
Izuku’s eyes lit up. “Oh, perfect! Thanks, Kacchan!” He chugged the whole thing in about a minute, before sparking his right hand with lightning. “I’m all powered up!”
Bakugo turned to the three women with Natsuki. “I’m Bakugo Katsuki, one of this nerd’s friends. And you all are?”
The strawberry blonde spoke up first. “Nawa Sayori! The other two are Sakka Monika and Hocho Yuri!” The girl with long brown hair gave a small, but enthusiastic, wave at the mention of her name, and Yuri gave a small, timid, wave.
Bakugo chimed in. “Hey, greenie, where's the mecha pervert? Hopefully not blowing up everything she touches… again.”
Immediately after Bakugo finished talking, the doors flew open, and someone covered in soot ran towards the group.
They stopped right in front of Bakugo. “Hey! Were you talking about me behind my back again, Pipebomb?”
Izuku laughed. “Meet Mei. She’s… an eccentric inventor. She also seems to, as Bakugo said, make everything she touches explode.”
“That’s not even remotely true, Green Bean!” Mei retorted. “I’m just an enthusiastic genius! It’s not my fault that when I make babies, they can't handle it.”
Izuku lightly flicked her forehead. “This is why we don’t allow you to be… unsupervised…” He stumbled, holding a hand to his head.
“Hey, Zu-cchini, are you okay?”
Izuku grimaced. “No, my head’s killing me… er, well it was…” He removed his hand from his head in confusion at the pain’s sudden vanishing act, then looked up at the group to see multiple different colored glows coming from everyone. “Why are you all glowing?”
Bakugo looked around at the group before he raised an eyebrow. “You hallucinating, nerd? None of us are glowing, at least not that I can see,”
“No, seriously. All of you are glowing different colors.” Izuku replied, his eyes darting across the auras surrounding them.
Natsuki suddenly appeared directly in front of him. “What colors are you even seeing? Do you need your eyes checked?”
“Well, you’re a very bright turquoise. And-” As Izuku spoke, a small beam of light connected to Natsuki appeared in front of him. He reached out to touch it, and the moment his fingers made contact, all the glows instantly vanished. “Or you… were? Everything’s normal again.”
Bakugo tapped Izuku on the shoulder, interrupting his train of thought. “Yo, Auntie just texted me. We got dinner at my place tonight, and she wants input on a couple things. We gotta head out.”
---------------------------------------------{Scene Break}--------------------------------------------------
Izuku threw out his arm, manifesting a solid spike of ice to strike the pile of trash, partially freezing it. He immediately followed up with a spin into four smallish spheres of water, all striking the same target. This time, as the blasts struck, the target shattered into multiple frozen bits.
‘My powers are getting stronger, but how and why? A week ago, I wouldn’t have been able to shatter the whole frozen area.’
He propelled himself into the air with an expulsion of water from his feet, then threw his hands down, causing three bolts of purple lightning to strike another pile of trash in quick succession, blowing it to pieces. He landed on the sand, and immediately sensing someone behind him, whirled around, his hands open, the magic circles for ice and water flickering to life on his palms.
“Woah, hey! Izuku! It’s just me!”
Seeing the pinkette, he lowered his hands, allowing the magic circles to dissipate. “Sorry, Natsuki. I was in the middle of training and you caught me off guard. Wait, hold on, how did you even find me in the first place?”
“First of all, it just so happens that I live nearby and heard you training from almost a mile away. Also… I came to ask if you would help me train, so hopefully I can be more prepped for class.”
He chuckles. “You know we haven’t gotten the results yet, right?
She stomps her foot. “Of course I know that! I just want to be prepared if I get accepted into the hero course!”
Izuku tilted his head. “What makes you think you won’t?”
Natsuki gawked at him. “MY QUIRK IS CONJURING BAKED GOODS!”
Izuku shook his head. “No, you told me you can conjure baked goods along with anything related to them. That’s much more versatile than just baked goods. For example, you could theoretically trap someone in icing.”
“I can’t conjure just icing-”
“Have you ever tried?”
Natsuki frowned, sifting through all her memories of training her quirk. “....Not by itself.”
“Try it. The worst that can happen is nothing.”
Natsuki groaned. “Fine. Don’t blame me if I fail.” She closed her eyes, thinking of the different types of icing before settling on one, then threw her hands out, as a large cone of pink icing covered everything in front of her.
Izuku laughed. “Told you.”
Natsuki looked at her hands in disbelief, before turning around and squealing. “OHMYGOD I CAN MAKE ICING!!” She turned to Izuku. “Hey, what’s your favorite kind of pastry?”
“Cinnamon buns. They’re so good.”
She held her hand out. “Here, I’ll-”
As Natsuki attempted to conjure a cinnamon bun in her hand, something neither of the two expected happened. A turquoise magic circle with a three-pronged crystal flickered to life above her palm, before producing a small gemstone of the same color.
The two of them stared at it, before Izuku spoke. “…Crystal Magic?”
Natsuki was silent, before speaking with a small bit of fear behind her voice. “Izuku. I don’t HAVE magic.”
Izuku’s eyes widened, before a memory flashed before him. The different colored glows, the beam of light that was tethered to Natsuki, the instant change in sight after touching the beam. “Oh… alright, don’t panic, but I think I may have somehow given you magic?”
