It's not like Ilya being an omega is some big dirty secret. In the NHL, every player has to self-identify their secondary gender for safety reasons. Shane's always considered himself lucky to be a beta. No mating cycles to worry about and only the occasional amount of hormonal bullshit when things get tense in the locker room. Otherwise, he's grateful his instincts don't impact him as much as they seem to impact everyone around him. He's the only beta on the Metros and he's lost count of how many times he's had to get between other players to stop them from posturing or attempting to bite each other over hockey.
Ilya's one of three omegas on the Raiders, which is probably why their team is known for violence. There's nothing more terrifying on the face of this Earth than a pissed off omega, Shane would know.
