Chapter Text

When William met Chloe at a cycling class three years ago, she was the epitome of simple and sunny. Just like him. She enjoyed staying at home watching movies or reading. Her idea of a night out with friends was attending an exercise class or doing a morning coffee run. Obviously, they were fast friends. They met for lunch once a week before their cycling class for a couple of months before Chloe joked that they should make things official and say they were dating.
William liked that about Chloe most - she was bold and clear about what she wanted.
One of the biggest reasons he’d moved across the country was to get away from the mess his last girlfriend created for him. She slept with all of his friends - the men and the women - and let him start to raise a child that she knew was another man’s. William only learned when he lost his job and she filed for child support bolster their income. He received the summons for the hearing while she was visiting her sister. The web of lies and excuses when he confronted her was the nail in the coffin. It was all too much. William couldn’t imagine a way through the mess.
Finding someone who enjoyed a simple lifestyle with a sunny disposition so quickly after moving away seemed impossible. It was an absolute treat to stumble into a beautiful thing so easily. He had lost too much time believing “opposites attract” was a good enough reason to stay together.
Chloe was as perfect a partner as a person could ask for, William thought.
