Work Text:

The morning sun slowly rose over the Tree of Life.
The air felt calm… but not peaceful.
Kion stood at the edge of the cliff, looking toward the distant valley where the meteor had fallen.
“Something still feels wrong…” he said quietly.
Behind him, the Lion Guard and the Night Guard gathered.
Fuli stepped forward.
“Everything looks normal to me.”
Bunga shook his head.
“No way. Even the bugs are quieter than usual.”
Makini glanced toward the horizon, her expression serious.
“It’s not just the valley… something has changed.”
Rani approached Kion.
“The land is unstable after the impact. We must be careful.”
Kion nodded, but his eyes didn’t leave the distance.
“Then we stay ready. Both Guards.”
Baliyo crossed his arms.
“Ready for what?”
Kion didn’t answer immediately.
“…For anything.”
Far away, hidden among the rocks high above the valley, a silent figure watched them.
Makali.
His gaze was fixed on Kion.
“The Roar-bearer is already feeling it…” he murmured.
Below, a small rumble passed through the ground.
Not strong.
But enough.
Makali narrowed his eyes.
“Good… let’s see what you do next.”
A sudden crack echoed through the valley.
The ground shifted beneath the Guards’ paws.
“Did you feel that?” Beshte asked, looking around nervously.
Before anyone could answer, a loud rumble followed.
Stones began to roll down from a nearby slope.
“Look out!” Fuli shouted.
A group of mountain goats near the river panicked, trying to escape as rocks blocked their path.
“They’re trapped!” Makini cried.
Kion stepped forward immediately.
“Lion Guard, Night Guard — move!”
Baliyo and Beshte rushed forward, using their strength to push away falling rocks.
Fuli darted across the slope, guiding the goats away from danger.
Bunga jumped between stones, trying to clear a safe path.
“Come on, come on! This way!” he called.
One young goat froze in fear near the edge of the river.
The ground beneath it began to crack.
Kion saw it.
“I’ve got it!”
He leaped forward just as the ground gave way.
Grabbing the goat, he pulled it back to safety.
The rumbling slowly stopped.
Dust settled in the air.
The valley grew quiet again.
Rani looked around carefully.
“This wasn’t normal.”
Makini nodded slowly.
“No… it felt like something triggered it.”
High above, unseen by all…
Makali watched silently.
His eyes followed Kion.
“He chose to save… not to command.”
A faint smile appeared.
“Interesting.”
Dust slowly settled.
Kion stood beside the rescued goats but didn’t move. His gaze was fixed on the cracked ground.
“This isn’t just landslides anymore…” he said quietly.
Fuli stepped closer, studying the slope.
“Too many coincidences.”
Makini hesitated before speaking.
“Kion… that symbol in the cave…”
Rani immediately turned to her.
“What symbol?”
Makini paused.
“It was old. Very old. And… unusual.”
Kion frowned.
“Why didn’t you tell us earlier?”
“I wasn’t sure it mattered…”
A brief silence.
Beshte spoke slowly:
“Since the meteor, the ground has been acting strange.”
Bunga added:
“And I really don’t like this place.”
Kion stepped forward and lowered his head toward the ground.
Something was visible between the cracks.
He brushed the dust aside with his paw.
A clear carved mark appeared.
Everyone froze.
Fuli whispered:
“It’s the same one…”
Makini nodded.
“Yes.”
Rani studied it carefully.
“This doesn’t look natural.”
Beshte leaned closer.
“Looks like someone made it.”
“…Or left it,” Makini added quietly.
Kion touched the mark.
The stone was cold.
Too cold for the morning sun.
He pulled his paw back.
“I don’t like this.”
Suddenly, a small shift of stone echoed from above.
Everyone looked up.
On the cliff, almost hidden in the shadows, stood Makali.
He didn’t move.
Just watched.
Fuli noticed him first.
“There!”
Everyone tensed.
Makali slowly stepped into the light.
His long fangs caught the sunlight.
Kion stepped forward, placing himself between him and the others.
“Who are you?”
A short pause.
Makali answered calmly:
“Someone who knows this place… better than you do.”
His gaze shifted to the symbol.
“You’ve already found it.”
Rani’s voice turned cold:
“What is it?”
Makali didn’t rush his answer.
“Something that was meant to stay hidden.”
Tension rose immediately.
Bunga muttered:
“That doesn’t sound good…”
Kion didn’t look away.
“You speak in riddles.”
Makali tilted his head slightly.
“And you ask questions you’re not ready to hear answers to.”
He looked back at the cracked ground.
“After the falling stone… some things began to come out.”
Makini quietly repeated:
“Things…?”
Makali looked directly at Kion.
“If that mark is appearing… then something has already changed.”
Silence.
The wind moved through the valley.
Fuli spoke quietly:
“You’re saying it’s dangerous?”
Makali didn’t answer directly.
“I’m saying… you’re late.”
Beshte frowned:
“Late for what?”
Makali took a step back.
“You’ll find out.”
A pause.
“…if you’re lucky.”
He turned and slowly walked along the cliff.
Within moments, he disappeared among the rocks.
Silence lingered.
Bunga spoke first:
“I don’t like him.”
Rani nodded.
“And he knows more than he says.”
Makini stared at the symbol.
“He’s trying to scare us…”
Kion answered quietly:
“Maybe.”
A pause.
“But that doesn’t mean he’s wrong.”
He looked at the symbol again.
His expression hardened.
“Until we understand what this is…”
a short pause
“…we treat it as a threat.”
Fuli immediately responded:
“Then what do we do?”
Kion straightened.
“We find the truth.”
The wind moved through the valley again.
And the carved mark remained still.
But now…
it felt like something more than just stone.
The valley had grown quiet again.
Too quiet.
Kion stood near the cracked ground, his eyes fixed on the symbol carved into the stone.
“…I don’t understand,” he said quietly.
Fuli paced nearby, restless.
“Nothing about this makes sense. First the meteor, then the landslides… and now this.”
Beshte shifted uneasily.
“The ground still feels strange.”
Makini stared at the symbol.
“I’ve never seen markings like this before… not even in the oldest stories.”
Rani stepped closer.
“Then we treat it carefully.”
Kion didn’t respond immediately.
“…Or we’re already too late.”
Everyone looked at him.
A brief silence followed.
High above them, hidden among the rocks, Makali watched.
And listened.
A small sound echoed from the cliff above.
Fuli reacted instantly.
“There!”
Makali stepped out of the shadows.
Calm. Unhurried.
Kion tensed, stepping forward.
“You again.”
A short pause.
“…Have you been watching us?”
Makali didn’t answer immediately.
His gaze shifted to the symbol.
“You found it quickly.”
Rani stepped forward.
“You knew it was here.”
Makali tilted his head slightly.
“I knew you would find it.”
Fuli narrowed her eyes.
“Why?”
Makali looked directly at Kion.
“Because after what happened… it couldn’t stay hidden.”
Kion glanced at the symbol.
“Then say it clearly. What is it?”
A pause.
Makali answered calmly:
“Something that was meant to remain beneath the ground.”
Bunga muttered quietly:
“I really don’t like the sound of that…”
Kion didn’t look away.
“Is it dangerous?”
Makali tilted his head slightly.
“What do you think?”
Silence.
Fuli spoke first:
“It appeared after the meteor.”
Beshte added:
“And it’s connected to that cave.”
Rani nodded.
“Something was sealed there.”
Makini said quietly:
“…But we don’t know what.”
Makali took a slow step back.
“And yet… you’ve already decided it’s a threat.”
A pause.
This time—
Kion didn’t argue.
His expression hardened.
“We’re not taking chances.”
Makini stepped forward quickly:
“Kion—”
But he had already decided.
“We treat it as dangerous.”
Fuli nodded immediately.
“Agreed.”
Beshte followed:
“Better safe than sorry…”
Makini lowered her gaze.
“…Or maybe we’re wrong,” she whispered.
Makali turned away.
A faint, hidden smile.
Deep in the shadows…
something moved.
Everyone froze.
Fuli lowered her stance:
“…We’re not alone.”
Silence.
Kion stepped forward.
“Come out.”
A pause.
Makali emerged from the darkness.
Calm.
As if he had never been hiding.
Rani:
“Him again…”
Kion didn’t look away.
“You followed us.”
Makali:
“No.”
Pause.
“I knew you would come.”
Silence.
Kion:
“What is this place?”
Makali glanced around.
“A place that was never meant to be opened.”
Fuli:
“And yet here we are.”
A faint smile.
“Exactly.”
Pause.
Kion:
“The symbol.”
“What does it mean?”
Makali looked directly at him.
“That depends… on how you choose to see it.”
Bunga muttered:
“That explains nothing…”
Makali took a small step back.
Barely noticeable.
“Then look more carefully.”

Click.
Kion:
“Wait—”
The ground collapsed beneath them.
Rock broke loose.
Darkness.
Falling.
Dust.
Impact.
Groans.
Movement.
Kion:
“Everyone?”
Fuli:
“I’m here.”
Beshte:
“I’m okay…”
Bunga:
“That was NOT fun!”
Rani:
“That was a deep fall…”
Kion stood up.
“Anyone hurt?”
Short responses.
All alive.
He nodded.
“Good.”
Pause.
“Then we find a way out.”
Dust slowly settled.
A large underground chamber revealed itself.
Smooth walls.
Carved lines.
Stone structures.
Circular grooves in the floor.
Makini whispered:
“This… isn’t natural.”
She stepped closer.
“These are mechanisms.”
Rani:
“Someone built this.”
Fuli:
“And not for decoration.”
Kion looked around.
“There.”
On the wall.
The symbol.
The same one.
But complete.
Makini stepped closer.
“This one isn’t damaged…”
She studied it.
“And it doesn’t look like a warning.”
Kion:
“Then what is it?”
Makini:
“…a direction.”
Two paths.
Left. Right.
Fuli:
“Split up?”
Baliyo:
“Faster.”
Rani:
“Risky.”
Beshte:
“What if there are more traps?”
Voices overlapped.
Kion:
“Stop!”
Silence.
He looked at both Guards.
This time—certain.
“This place is meant to divide us.”
Pause.
“We won’t let it.”
Fuli:
“But—”
Kion:
“Together. Always.”
He stepped forward.
“I’m responsible for everyone.”
Silence.
Rani nodded slowly.
“…Alright.”
Near the collapsed entrance…
Makali stood in silence.
He didn’t even look down.
As if he already knew.
“The first step is taken…”
He turned away.
“Now let’s see if you can lead them further, Kion.”
The Guards moved forward.
Slowly.
Carefully.
The ground beneath their paws felt uneven.
Suddenly—
Click.
The floor beneath Bunga shifted.
“Whoa!”
He nearly fell into a narrow gap.
Beshte grabbed him instantly.
“Got you!”
Fuli snapped:
“Don’t move!”
Everyone froze.
Makini studied the ground.
“Something is activating under pressure…”
Rani looked down.
“Tiles.”
The floor was made of stone plates.
Some lower.
Some cracked.
Kion focused ahead.
“This isn’t just a trap…”
Pause.
“It’s a test.”
Fuli:
“Of what?”
Kion:
“How we move.”
Kion quickly judged the path.
“We move along the edges. More stable.”
He stepped forward.
The stone held.
“See?”
Fuli nodded.
“Works.”
They followed.
One by one.
Carefully.
Then—
A deep shift.
The plate under Rani dropped.
“Kion!”
She lost balance.
Baliyo lunged and caught her.
Stone collapsed beside them.
Silence.
Tense.
Kion froze.
His plan… almost failed.
Fuli quietly:
“That was close…”
Makini looked again at the floor.
“It’s not about where we step…”
Pause.
“…it’s how.”
Kion frowned.
“What do you mean?”
Makini pointed to the symbol.
“Look.”
Lines.
A pattern.
Not straight.
A zigzag.
Rani:
“It’s a map…”
Fuli:
“A path.”
Beshte:
“So it’s not a trap?”
Makini:
“It’s not meant to stop us…”
Pause.
“It’s meant to guide us.”
Kion exhaled slowly.
“I was wrong.”
Silence.
He looked at the Guards.
“We follow Makini.”
Kion stepped back.
“Alright.”
Pause.
“We don’t move faster.”
“We move right.”
He looked at both Guards.
“Together.”
Fuli nodded.
Rani too.
Kion:
“Slow. Follow the pattern.”
He stepped forward.
This time guided.
The stone didn’t move.
Fuli followed.
Then the others.
Step by step.
No mistakes.
Above the cave…
Makali stood on the cliff.
Watching.
Quietly.
“He chose to listen…”
Pause.
A faint smile.
“Good.”
He turned away.
“This is only the beginning.”
The Guards moved forward.
Carefully.
Step by step.
Kion:
“Along the edges. Stay together.”
Fuli:
“Got it.”
Rani:
“Careful.”
Another step—
A deep shift.
The plate under Beshte dropped.
“Whoa!”
The ground cracked beneath him.
He began to fall.
“BESHTE!”
Fuli lunged.
Baliyo from the other side.
They grabbed him together.
But—
The surrounding tiles began to shift.
Cracks spread.
The whole structure started to give way.
Kion:
“STOP!”
Silence.
For a moment.
Everyone froze.
Kion looked around quickly.
His plan…
was failing.
Two Guards.
Acting separately.
Uncoordinated.
Dangerous.
He took a breath.
Deep.
And for the first time—
“LISTEN TO ME!”
All eyes on him.
Even Rani.
Even Fuli.
“No one moves alone!”
Pause.
“Fuli, Baliyo — hold Beshte together.”
“Rani — stabilize the back tiles.”
“Bunga — don’t jump!”
Bunga:
“Okay!”
Kion stepped forward.
One step.
Slow.
“We move as one team.”
Another step.
“Not two Guards.”
Pause.
“One.”
Silence.
And then—
The tiles stopped shifting.
Fuli whispered:
“…It’s working.”
Rani looked at Kion.
For the first time—without doubt.
“Keep going.”
Kion nodded.
“Together.”
Once stable, they moved forward.
Slowly.
Carefully.
At the end—
a wall.
Large.
Smooth.
And on it—the symbol.
Complete.
Makini froze.
“…Now I see.”
She stepped closer.
“This isn’t a trap.”
Pause.
“Or a seal.”
Fuli:
“Then what is it?”
Makini studied it.
“It’s a system.”
Rani:
“For what?”
Makini:
“It doesn’t respond to strength.”
Pause.
“It responds to behavior.”
Kion quietly:
“To choice…”
Makini nodded.
“If you act out of fear—it feels like a threat.”
“If you act together…”
She looked at the symbol.
“…it shows the way.”
Beshte:
“So it was helping us?”
Makini:
“Yes.”
Pause.
“We just didn’t understand.”
Kion looked at both Guards.
Standing together.
“No more mistakes.”
Pause.
“Together.”
High above the cave…
Makali stood in silence.
Looking into the distance.
“They understand…”
Pause.
“…part of it.”
A faint smile.
“That’s enough.”
He turned away.
“For now.”
Light.
Bright.
After darkness — sharp.
The Guards stepped out of the cave.
Slowly.
Both.
Together.
Fuli shielded her eyes:
“Finally…”
Bunga:
“I thought we were stuck in there forever!”
Beshte exhaled:
“Good to be back…”
But Kion didn’t smile.
He was looking ahead.
The valley…
had changed.
Rani tensed:
“This doesn’t look right.”
The ground was covered in new cracks.
Some rocks had collapsed.
And…
the symbol.
Not one.
Several.
Scattered across the valley.
Fuli:
“There are more of them…”
Makini quietly:
“It’s spreading…”
Kion stepped forward.
“No.”
Pause.
“It’s leading.”
Rani looked at him:
“Or warning.”
Tension returned.
The wind moved across the cliffs.
Makali stepped out of the shadows.
Calm.
As if waiting.
Fuli:
“Him again…”
Kion stepped forward.
“That’s enough.”
Silence.
“You knew this would happen.”
Makali didn’t deny it.
“Yes.”
Pause.
Kion:
“Why?”
Makali walked closer.
“Because it was the only way to teach.”
Rani snapped:
“You dropped us into a trap?!”
Makali didn’t even look at her.
“You were already in one.”
Pause.
His eyes stayed on Kion.
“Fear.”
Silence.
Kion held his gaze.
“Then say it clearly.”
“What is the symbol?”
A long pause.
Makali:
“It’s not power.”
“It’s choice.”
Fuli:
“We already figured that out.”
Makali:
“No.”
Pause.
“You’ve only just begun.”
The wind grew stronger.
Makali stepped back.
“This place… is only the beginning.”
Kion:
“The beginning of what?”
Makali:
“Of what was forgotten.”
Pause.
“And is returning.”
Makini whispered:
“There are more places like this…”
Makali looked at her.
“More than you think.”
Rani:
“And all of them… this dangerous?”
Makali:
“The places are not the danger.”
Pause.
“The choices you make there are.”
Silence.
Kion nodded slowly.
“Then we’ll be ready.”
Makali smiled faintly.
“We’ll see.”
He turned.
And disappeared among the rocks.
The wind faded.
Both Guards stood together.
Kion looked at them.
“This isn’t over.”
Pause.
“This is just the beginning.”
High above the valley…
the wind moved through the grass.
The view slowly rises…
revealing the symbols scattered across the land.
One of them…
slightly brighter.
Almost… active.
Fade to black.

To be continued…
