Chapter Text
"You've got a nice camper kiddo, you mind if ol' Apollo takes it for a spin sometime? Only joking!" Apollo laughed.
He still wasn't quite sure what to make of the human. Sure, he was friendly enough, and whatever the bird asked for he'd always provided. Often above and beyond, too! Apollo was starting to worry he'd become too much of a snob to eat non-perfect cherries. He hadn't been paying the human rent either, even though he'd been staying at the campsite for three whole months now. It was clear from the constant construction on new amenities that the kid was getting bells from somewhere... Pah, whatever the case, he was happy to be here.
Suddenly his train of thought was derailed by the jingling of keys being held towards him.
"Pah! Are you sure?" he stammered out in shock. The human simply smiled and nodded.
"Well okay then! I promise I'll return it in once piece, thanks a lot kiddo!"
The kid wandered off to do... Something or other. Apollo didn't know nor particularly care, for now he needed to pack.
"Hey bro, are you going somewhere, flexin?"
The question came from Leonardo standing at the entrance of Apollo's tent.
The startled bird caught a piece of clothing he had tossed in surprise at the question. "That kid is letting me take his camper for a spin! I thought he'd have told you since you're the camp caretaker, pah!"
"W-what!?" Leonardo nervously fidgeted and sweat, "I haven't heard anything, flexin! That's so cool! Can I come along?".
Apollo thought for a bit. His plan was to spend some quiet time on the road alone, but it might be nice to have some company for a road trip. Leonardo was a meathead who worked out what felt like every waking moment, but he seemed a little more chill than some of the others like Bam or, ugh, Jay. Hmm, if the camper got stuck somewhere Leonardo could probably push it... "Pah, why not. You sure the camp will survive without its caretaker?"
Leonardo looked shocked, he clearly hadn't thought about that (nor much of anything at all, the eagle suspected). "Oh right! I'll ask!"
With that, the cat was off at full sprint and Apollo got back to packing his things. Humming happily as the camper's keys softly jangled in his pockets. Leonardo coming along would probably stop the human from worrying, he thought, since the cat was always bragging about being the kid's best friend.
The camper hummed to life as Apollo turned the key. Leonardo was beaming, shifting excitedly in the passenger seat as Apollo gently pushed down on the pedal.
...
Nothing. Hm.
Must be the other pedal.
With a lurch the camper sped forward, out of the campsite and onto the open road.
