Chapter Text
The sound of the waterfall was softly getting to our eyes as we sat. It was nice summer day. Judging by the color of the sky, sunset was inexorably approaching. Soon the sky will turn dark and brightly shinning stars will appear. For some it meant that they should close their eyes but for Shiho or Honami it meant absolutely nothing. No weather can interrupt their time spent together. They will continue their nice date no matter how hard the rain or wind might be. Other gods often laugh at them for being a "cute couple" which made Shiho a bit embarrassed. of course she wasn't embarrassed for being with Honami but it was weird for others to point it out. Well there was no way of their relationship to remain secret because of how pushy most of the gods were. They were outed in no time.
Shiho blinked and eventually shock her head to clean her thoughts. Why was she even thinking about them in the first place. She was spending her time with her dear girlfriend and that's what should matter the most. No pathetic god will get in between them and Shiho will make sure of that. She took a deep breath and looked up from the cup of tea in her hands.
Honami was sitting at the other side of the table and enjoyed her own cup. She was as stunning as she was all the time. Straight hair falling on her shoulders and back. The sun was taking a big part in the entire masterpiece. Just by shinning at the woman it made her look almost otherworldly... It has been over a few thousand years yet Shiho can't help but still admire her dearest one. To this day Shiho isn't quite sure how he managed to date such a beautiful creature. She heard mamy gods being envious and even teasing her about her relationship. Shiho knew better than to listen to sweaty men trying to gush over her girlfriend. Every single time they end up with a strong punch in the faces.
Honami looked at the plate with different types of berries they bought earlier. She saw blueberries, raspberries and some that she couldn't quite name. Humans are too obsessed with naming everything and she was struggling to remember every single name that exist. Good that she has Shiho by her side to help if needed.
Not thinking more she grabbed the first strawberry from the side of the plate. Nice reddish strawberry. With a smile she moved her hand forward and got the strawberry basically to Shiho's lips. The goddess seemed shocked at first but at the end she took a bite. Her teeth taking a part of the strawberry into her mouth and started chewing until she could shallow it freely.
"Im not a kid that you have to feed and you know that" Shiho mumbled under her nose as she tried to move Honami's hand away. She didn't like feeling like a child and this gesture wasn't helping at all.
"I know and Im not trying to say that you are. After all you are a proud goddess. Now finish the strawberry please" She moved the strawberry close again. Shiho at first looked a bit annoyed but soon after she gave in and ate rest of it.
"You are impossible sometimes" Shiho barked out quietly as she looked away from her girlfriend. A soft blush already appeared on her face, she could feel it. Honami must be a witch because she always manages to make Shiho blush.
"That's so mean even for you Shiho-chan" Honami takes another strawberry but this time eats it herself. Shiho raised her eyes to see the way Honami's eyes seems to lighten up from the sweetness. Even she had to agree that the food was extremely good. Mortals can do really nice food if they want to.
Shiho took a deep breath in and out, trying to get rid of the redness on her face. To this day Shiho can't really say how Honami managed to make her heart jump at least a few times a day. She just wanted to brush it as magic but she knew that it was much more than just that. That's probably how love works. It was hard to say since it was her first true love. Let's ignore that she was in this relationship for ages if not decades.
Her eyes came back to look at her girlfriend once again. Even with this entire blushing situation she loved every single part of Honami. If she could she would merge their bodies into one and just live as one being... That probably sounds pretty weird. Extremely weird probably. She heard about merging into one being but it comes with many side effects. Maybe it was fine to stay in two separates bodies no matter how sad it might be sometimes.
A blue bird flew to them and sat on their table. Shiho's eyes immediately went to it and made sure it wasn't a danger to other goddess. Maybe in the past she would question why a bird would fly and visit them but now she knows that Honami is naturally good with animals, birds especially. Her hand immediately went to the creature and started playing with it. She started talking to herself about the bird. It came out pretty messy so Shiho didn't bother to understand her. Let the girl have fun, Shiho thought. At the end of the day it was pretty cute to look at.
The animal moved its wings and flew away. Honami moved her hand back and watched the bird randomly fly away. She watched it disappear in disappointment. It wasn't even start of their game and it already ran away. Did she do anything bad? Well Honami will never get answer for this.
"It seems that your little friend didn't like your game" Shiho commented on her sad face and took last sip of her tea. It got a bit cold because of the wind but she choosed to ignore it.
"It seems so" Honami glanced at the place that the bird just sat in and shock her head. What was she expecting from a bird? She knows they will run away yet evertime she gets excited when they fly by.
They sat by the table and enjoyed the sound of the water behind them. The waterfall was pretty big compared to both Shiho and Honami. It was much bigger than buildings humans build. If they discover this place it would become very visited place. She has lived among humans for a while and she knows how they function. They are confusing for sure. Everyone is extremely complicated... Too complicated to be fully understand. She even heard about humans not understanding themselves. Pretty weird if you ask her. You should know your own personality the best, right?
Honami was getting a bit bored of just sitting and after waiting a bit longer she finally stood up. Her movement grabbed Shiho's attention but she hasn't spoke a word yet. Not waiting for anything more Honami went to the water and sits on the rock. Her feet gently touched the water. Judging by her reaction it was warm due to strong sun today.
Her eyes focused on the family of frogs just enjoying last hours of sun. Some of them swam with the yellow-orange fishes while the rest just hoped around the grass. Shiho didn't notice those green creatures before, did they just come there or was she just blind? Well nonetheless she thought it might be fun to watch them together with Honami.
Shiho stood up from her chair and approached the closest rock that was flat enough for her to sit down without much uncomfortable feelings. Her feet also touched the water, confirming it was warm just like she thought. Honami seems rather happy that her girlfriend joined her silly game. Watching frogs having fun in the water.
"They are pretty cute, dont you think?" Honami asked as her eyes locked on the small frog swimming in circles. It seems to be circling a small fish.
"I never thought I will tell it about a literal frog but they are pretty cute. Look at that one" Shiho pointed at the frog that jumped on another one's back. It seems that the frog wanted to feel what horse riders feel every day.
"They look so silly together. Have you ever wondered how it feels to be a frog?"
"No? Have you?" Shiho looked away from the animals to look at Honami with her brow raised at the stupid question. Who in this world thinks about things like those? Definitely not her.
"I haven't thought about it either" Honami shock her head with amusement about her own words.
"Then why ask such a question?"
"Just curiosity"
They looked at each other and decided to drop the topic. A conversation about frogs won't get them anywhere good. Shiho looked away to look at the fishes moving around. There weren't much of them. A good question was how they get there? Did they swim down the water and managed to survive the fall? Did someone used magic to bring them here? Shiho sighed and tried to stop thinking about the endless questions. Not that she can catch any fish and straight up ask them about it, can she?
"The water is pretty warm today. Do you think we can come here tomorrow and maybe swim? We haven't done it in ages"
"You're right! Last time we actually got into the water to swim was after new water god was picked up. It was around thirty years ago if not more. That party was something if you ask me. No hate to the her. New water goddess is one of the nices gods on the earth right now"
"I haven't spoken to her much since she was picked so I can't say much about her personality. All I remember is that her party was interrupted by mortals. I wish I could come back to that day"
"It was pretty funny indeed... But that doesn't stop me from feeling bad for the goddess. She poured her heart out to make cozy party yet she failed. I need to pay her a visit and see how shes doing right now"
"Well if you want to then I can join you I think"
"You want to? Thank you so much!" Honami smiled at Shiho's words.
"You're welcome"
The way Honami looked while smiling will never stop making Shiho's heart beat faster. She already felt her face getting warmer. Who can really judge her though? Honami was genuinely the best person she has ever met in her life. Of course their relationship had their ups and downs but at the end they remained strong and never fully splitted. No matter how the world around tyem changed, their love stayed untouched. Some might think that an argument might destroy them but nothing more misleading. They will find shared language at the end. Honami always took care of that. At this point they can stop another fight before it even starts. It was nice to have someone you trust by your side.
Suddenly Shiho felt splash of warm water hitting her face. She flinched and wiped the water drops off her face. When she raised her eyes she saw Honami hiding her chuckle with her hand. It was hard to be mad at this woman. Of course she wasn't fan of getting water splashed right at your face but seeing Honami made her anger vanish in seconds.
"What was that for?" Shiho asked while wiping the water off her face and eyes.
"You weren't answering to my questions. I've decided to use my last weapon on you"
"Attacking me with water? Simple shoulder shake would be enough you know?" Shiho sighed and let her hand drop on the side.
"Im sorry I just couldn't help myself" Honami scratched back of her neck in apologetic way. When she opened her eyes she could feel a strong splash of water on her body. "Hey!"
"What? Can't fight back?" Shiho smiled evily and got ready to splash Honami once again if needed. Honami seems to catch up with the joke and got ready to water fight with her girlfriend.
"You just started a war" Honami tried to play role of a dangerous goddess that craved nothing but to destroy her people. Seeing her so focused was pretty silly. She might be a goddess but she was nothing nowhere dangerous. In fact she was everything but that.
"Oh forgive me my lord for my sins" Shiho joked as she send another wave at Honami. This time the other god didn't plan to step back. She used her hand to create a wave herself and sent it right at Shiho.
In a matter of seconds they were dripping wet like a dog that was let out to have fun outside while its owner wasn't looking. From the side they probably look stupid. Just image two gods sending waves at each other while sitting on the rocks. Well nobody was there to judge then why even care? All that mattered was to have fun with your soulmate. Its what life is for, right? Spending time with those you love.
Shiho couldn't help but let out a loud laugh and move her wet hair off her face to see Honami also enjoying their game. Its weird that even with many years on their back they have never actually got bored of each other. Other gods change their partner after maybe a year if not less. For some reason they stayed together. Not that she complained, Honami was an amazing person she would never trade for anything or anyone. She was never a person to show her affection daily but she valued their relationship more than anything.
She wanted to stay this way forever. Sitting with your dearest one and enjoy your life as if tomorrow doesn't exist. Unless she loses her voice... No, even without her voice she still wanted to sit by her side and laugh until the god of death himself comes to finish their fun. It would be pretty interesting experience. For now she didn't want to think about that and continued laughing with Honami.
All of that was just a cruel memory. Memory that haunted her every single dream. Memory that she cannot escape no matter how far she ran. The waterfall was silent but the memories were still ringing. To this day she felt something wet on her cheek. Was it water or was it blood? She wasn't able to spot the difference anymore. Taste of the red liquid wasn't something new for her. Everyone felt it every sinhle day since it started. No matter who you are, god, demigod or human, you will taste it. It was the reality they needed to face. Reality Shiho lived in and needed to face.
There was no time for sweet strawberry or splash of clean water. Only her powers and destruction remained. Can she really find hope in a place like this? This wasn't the world she called home. It wasn't even sightly close to that world. At first she thought that she just woke up in the wrong universe but that wasn't the case. It seems like her world was rewritten in less than a day. No warning, no anything. Just a snap of a finger, one nap, one breath... It was all that it took to destroy what she lived in for decade, for century or even millennium.
Whoever did all of this cruelty should face punishment. Whoever seperated Shiho from the only source of light should face something worse than death. From the deepth of her heart she despited a person that ripped Honami and Shizuku away from her. No matter what it takes she will bring justice. She will find the culprit and make sure they suffer.
Everything for Shizuku and Honami.
