In the present, Lady Mareena Titanos has always known that her family is not of her blood. So when her soon-to-be fiancee and a Teleporter she rarely even makes eye contact with inform her of their whereabouts, (which just so happen to be the same place that the up and coming Queenstrial is about to be held) she doesn't hesitate to help this Teleporter, who's apparently her brother, search for them.
But when Mareena, or Mare now, she supposes, and her new brother discover the reality of their blood family's lives, their entire worldview is shattered, and they're forced to make the decision between betraying the friends they've grown up with, or freeing their real parents and siblings from misery.
