Ilya was in the elevator with an Asian man and a silver-haired Russian.
The men’s individual freeskate event ended earlier today. Ilya had caught part of it, enough for him to recognize that round gold medal resting against the Asian man’s chest, glinting beneath his open Team Japan jacket. But what shines even brighter are the gold bands on both men’s wedding fingers.They were smiling and whispering words into each other’s ears. Ilya couldn’t quite hear from far away, but that radiating closeness and domesticity almost made Ilya’s gut twist.
They were so public, so open, so committed. So bright and shining with love and happiness, and so not afraid to show their love to the world.
And to make everything worse, they’re his neighbors in the Olympic Village.
The Katsuki-Nikiforovs waved goodbye before disappearing into their room.
