Summary
“Papa,” Shane starts, raising his voice to be heard, “who is that?”
His father finishes sipping the wine in his goblet and turns his head to face Shane, who is still looking at the gladiator, and raises a brow at him. “You don’t know? He’s the most beloved gladiator in Rome, perhaps the entire empire. Never lost a fight.”
He can’t be that beloved if I’ve never heard of him, Shane thinks. He does not voice this, but hums in acknowledgement instead.
“And what’s his name? This great gladiator?”
The voice of the Emperor of Rome sounds tinged with something almost like respect when he answers.
“Xanthos.”
Shane, son of the Roman Emperor, attends a gladiatorial games for the first time in his life. He finds something much more entertaining there than the combat.
