Jimmy thought today was good he, Shrub and pix were traveling and catching up on the 2’000 or so years they had been separated. They were walking along a river chatting when the came Upon A small field of sunflowers Shrub reached out to touch one and then pearl popped out
“Pearl!”
“Hey guys “ she looked very happy to see them, and they were happy to see her
“Hey how have you been?” Pix asked they were all used to the whole immortal thing and they knew Pearl was a goddess now.
“Good oh wait I gotta go get Scott “she reached out to phase into the nearest sunflowers before jimmy grabbed his shoulder
“What do you mean Scott, is.. is he alive? “
“Kinda in a sense it will make more sense if I show you” she phased into the flowers but returned no more then 2 minutes later after that a white bat emerged out of the trees and barreled into jimmy at top speed. Jimmy was a bit startled at the sudden force but the bat flew down and shifted into Scott.
“Hey Jim”
Jimmy grabbed him in a hug and shrub Did the same. They stood there for a minute before jimmy pulled back
“How are you alive I thought you killed yourself”
“ok long story and I did but I didn’t really have any other options”
Shrub kicked him in the shin
“I thought you were dead you penny whistling idiot”
“hey I'm not an idiot I’m just creatively ignorant “
“you so are” she stuck her tongue out at him in a most childish manner
“Well I'm still taller “ he returned the gesture
“ya well I'm older”
“ha only by like a 100 years”
Before it could devolve any further Pix cut them off
“Ok as much as I would love to listen to your silly squabbles. Scott how are you alive”
“soooo I'm kinda not. Aeor decided to give me a second chance and turned me into a vampire”
“oh”
It was silent for a moment jimmy taking the time to move next to Scott and wrap and arm around his waist
“So what roles have you been playing?” pearl asked breaking the silence
“Oh I'm a witch I got kicked out of school and everything “ shrub said proudly
“You know your usually supposed to not get kicked out of school”
“death didn’t kill any of your sass I see” she mumbled
“Oh people started more empires in our land”
“the new you is very frustrating he keeps hoarding priceless artifacts, without understanding the immense historic Value “
“If you couldn’t tell Pix is an archeologists “
Their words drowned each other out as they all explained what they had been doing the last 2 millennia
Shelby was quite confused Pearl had popped out of a sunflower, told Scott that some of their friends were here and then Scott batted straight out the window. So naturally she, Avid and Drift followed him or at least tried to it took them a bit to figure out where they were. They found Scott and pearl along with three new people by the river downstream of the castle. One of the people was sitting on a rather large toadstool wearing a droopy witch hat and overalls she also was extremely short, next to her was a man in what appeared to be archeology gear gesturing wildly and sitting with his arms around Scott was a tall man with a tail and gills and was dressed a bit like a cowboy minus the hat. Cleo also must have had the idea to eavesdrop because they stumbled into the clearing hand on their hips
“What in the world is going on because I swear you turned into wheat “
“hii Cleo what cha doing here?” Pearl asked kinda guilty
“And why are you hanging out with him!” they said gesturing at Scott and Shelby was incredible offended on his behalf. Sure he had murdered millions of people but he was really nice and caring once you got to know him.
“I mean you hang out with him on the occasion”
“Well ya cause I’m a vampire and I need help figuring it out your human “
“Ya about that”
Cleo took a deep breath “Pearl are you a vampire “
“No I'm kinda a.. Goddess “
Shelby couldn’t help herself she shifted back into a person and in the process landed on the ground with a thump
“WHAT?”
“Shelby” Scott noticed Avid and Drift peeking out from the trees “oh my goodness all three of you”
The tall man sitting next to Scott elbowed him and whispered “uh who are they?”
“This is Shelby and that’s Avid and Drift”
The short girl looked at her “oh is she my reincarnate, she’s so cute”
Shelby blinked what did she mean reincarnate? How old was she? Drift sputtered out something that vaguely resembled a what
“oh yes that’s shrub that’s Pix and this is jimmy “
Pix turned to Scott with a inquisitive look on his face “is there anyone else in town we might recognize
Pearl tapped her chin thoughtfully “we have sausage. He’s some author named M now “
“ oh good for him”
“Ok love the cute chit chat but can you please explain what’s going on” Cleo said forcefully
“Ok so you know the rapture”
They all nodded
“we are some of the ruler from before that” Pearl replied cheerfully
“What do you mean from before that?”
“Well we all ruled one of the ancient empires “
“What kingdoms did you rule”
“Riverdale “
“Gilded hyacinth”
“Pixandia”
“the undergrowth “
“The swamp empire “
OMG this was cool she had read tons of stories about the old empires and while most of them had conflicting details but she had so many questions and she could tell Avid and Drift did too.
“But I thought All the old rulers were dead “
“Most of them are but we survived”
“Or died in Scotts case” Shrub added smugly
“Ok so if your like gods and stuff couldn’t you have broken the beacons? “ Drift and Shelby agreed while she loved being a vampire not being stuck in Oakhurst would be great
“What are the beacons” pix asked looking rightfully confused
“Oh ya the idiots that put me to sleep also made some beacons to keep us trapped we can't leave till either the humans kill us all or we turn them”
“what do you mean they put you to sleep “
“about 600ish years ago some people got made and got a witch to put me to sleep “
Jimmy and Shrub seemed quite made but Pix just patted him on the shoulder
“Still we could probably try to break the beacons again it didn’t work with just me and Scott but it might work with all of us”
“We can try, where are the beacons “
“Wells there’s a few around but the center one is in the castle “
Cleo scoffed “how do you know it’s the center “
“Because think about it all the other beacons AR arranged in a circle around the castle “ Scott was right she hadn’t realized it before. Still Cleo seemed unconvinced but they walked to the castle nonetheless. Scott's friends didn’t seem especially impressed by the castle but if they were all Royalty they would see stuff like this all the time. When they got to the beacon they all rested a hand on it. It took a minute but soon the glass started to crack. The buildup may have been slow but it only took one second for the glass to shatter and fling itself all around the room. She felt like a veil had been lifted off her. It worked they could leave and no had to die (or a least not permanently).
