You're My Favorite Present

Summary:

Buck and Eddie have been dating for a little while now, but no one knows except Chris. So when their birthdays roll around, Maddie and the 118 scheme up a plan to throw them a birthday party in Bobby and Athena’s backyard, trying to push the two idiots together without knowing that they are already together.

Notes:

Here is yet another fic that we have done together!

This one is pure fluff.

Hope you like it!❤️

Work Text:

Buck never really celebrated his birthday; his parents would forget or wouldn’t bother. The only person who ever celebrated and reminded him was Maddie, always making a cake or a small gift of some kind, but that all stopped once Doug came into her life, and Buck just stopped caring about his birthday after that.

Until he met Eddie Diaz and his adorable son Christopher Diaz.

Buck didn’t really want anyone finding out because he didn’t want them making a big deal about it, so he didn’t tell anyone.

But then Maddie blabbed about it, so everyone found out. Eddie and Chris have made the biggest deal out of it because of Eddie’s birthday, which is a year and a day after Buck’s.

So the three of them made it a tradition to celebrate their birthdays together, starting on Eddie's birthday, June 26, and ending on Buck’s, June 27, and it’s an even bigger deal because now Chris can stay up until midnight and watch them blow out the candles at midnight on Buck’s birthday, which was a tradition Buck and Eddie started and now Chris can do it with them.

It’s also a bigger deal this year because Buck and Eddie are dating, have been for four months now. They’re celebrating their birthday’s together for the first time as a couple this year.

But no one knows that.

They kept it a secret at first because they wanted to keep it to themselves for a bit, and Christopher, but then no one picked up on their change in relationship. Buck and Eddie were keeping to themselves during shifts, but they would occasionally slip away to make out in the supply closet or have a little fun in the showers. But no one noticed, so Buck and Eddie kept it a secret to see if anyone would ever notice.

But they still haven’t, not even Maddie or Hen. Which surprised the pair. Those two women are usually the most observant and nosy.

So Buck and Eddie have just let it stay a secret until the 118 and family find out.

June 26, 2026

Buck and Eddie are currently preparing 4995 South Bedford Street for their two-day birthday celebration, when someone suddenly knocks on the front door, stopping both of them in their tracks, looking at one another, confused.

“Are you expecting anybody?” Buck asks over his shoulder as he’s hanging up the ‘Happy Birthday’ sign above the windows in the living room.

“No,” Eddie replies as he’s standing not too far in the distance, watching Buck hang the sign to make sure that it’s level and to watch Buck work, while wearing that fluffy pink cardigan Eddie loves so dearly. “Are you?”

Buck shakes his head before heading to the door, opening it, revealing Maddie on the other side, holding a birthday gift in her hands, smiling widely.

Buck raises his brow in confusion. “H-Hey, Mads,” he stutters slightly. “I didn’t know you were going to be here today...”

“Well, I know it’s not your birthday yet, but I wanted to surprise you with this.” She holds out the present for him.

Buck takes it, looking down at it, then back up at her. “T-Thanks.”

Eddie then walks over to the front door, standing right next to Buck, placing a hand on Buck’s lower back, near his ass, because he can do that now, smiling at Maddie.

“Hey, Maddie,” Eddie greets with a wave, with his hand that isn’t touching Buck.

Maddie looks at Eddie warmly, “Happy birthday, Eddie.”

Eddie nods and grins in appreciation. “Thank you. What brings you by today?”

Maddie grins. “I wanted to bring over this present and tell you that we are all throwing a party for you guys at Bobby and Athena’s house to celebrate tomorrow.”

“Well, thank you for the gift, and we will be there,” Eddie said, turning to Buck. “Anything you’d like to add, Buck?” He even squeezes Buck’s right ass cheek for the fun of it.

Buck goes blank for a moment, jaw opening and closing like he’s trying to figure out what to say, then shakes his head no. “Uh, no, not really.”

Eddie turns back to Maddie, “Well, bye, Maddie. We will see you tomorrow.” Then he shuts the door in her face, locks it, and then turns to Buck.

“That was rude. That was my sister,” Buck says.

Eddie puts his hands on his hips sassily, “And they can have you tomorrow, I want you now,” Eddie says, pulling Buck towards him by his pink cardigan, leading him away to the bedroom.

Buck turns red, smirking. “Well, alright then, baby. Lead the way.”

“That’s what I thought,” Eddie said seductively, making Buck shiver with anticipation, letting Eddie take him wherever he desires.

Guess they’ll finish decorating in a few hours…they’ve got time to kill.

Buck and Eddie are sitting on the couch, practically on top of each other, talking as they wait for it to be midnight so they can blow out candles to continue their tradition.

“You know, I just realized for my first birthday, I technically got you for a present.”

Eddie blushes, smiling adorably at his boyfriend. “And when I was born, I was put into a world with you already in it, which is the only world I want to live in.”

Buck’s entire face lights up, his heart soaring. Oh, he’s never felt more in love.

Eddie reaches over and intertwines their hands, bringing Buck’s hand up to his lips to briefly kiss, then lays their joined hands in his lap, the two looking deeply into each other’s eyes, not wanting to ever look away.

Christopher then comes out of his room, grinning madly at the pair, “Alright, it's midnight. Can we please light the candles now? And can you two please stop staring at each other, it's gross.” He fake gagged, making his dads laugh as they got from the couch, still hand in hand, smiling.

Buck ruffles Chris’s hair. “Sorry, buddy.”

Chris quickly fixes his hair, glaring at him as Eddie sadly lets Buck’s hand go to get the cake out of the fridge, smiling at his two favorite people joking around with each other.

Eddie sets the cake on the coffee table, then grabs the lighter to light the candles.

“Mi sol, mjio, it's time to blow out the candles,” Eddie says lovingly, rolling his eyes at their ridiculousness, grabbing the duo's attention, as they walk over to the cake, smiling.

“About time!” Chris exclaims dramatically.

Making both Buck and Eddie laugh as the clock struck midnight, the two blew out the candles as Christopher cheered excitedly.

Eddie then smudged some icing on Buck's nose, laughing, then Buck yanked Eddie in for a passionate kiss, making Eddie giggle into it, licking the icing off of Buck’s nose when they briefly pulled away for air before going back to it.

Christopher groaned loudly. “Ew, I don't want to see my dads doing that! I am going back to bed now! Goodnight and happy birthday, Buck!” Chris shouts as he walks away.

Buck slowly pulls away from the kiss, chuckling, “You know he gets that from you,” he teases.

Eddie rolls his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, whatever.”

Bucks looks at Eddie lovingly, nudging his shoulder, making Eddie look at him.

“You're my favorite present, even if I didn't get you until I was 26.”

Eddie chuckles softly, blushing bright red. “And you are mine, even if I didn’t get you until I was 26, too.”

The two then cut the cake, eating two slices each, and watching a movie.

Eddie turns to Buck at the halfway point of the movie.

 “Happy birthday, baby.”

Buck grins, cake in his mouth and icing all over his face, mumbling out, “Thanks, babe.”

Eddie snorts and laughs, wiping off Buck's face, “You are a mess.”

“But I am your mess, Eds.”

Eddie smiles, “Yes, yes, you are.” Then he leans over to kiss off the icing on the corners of Buck’s lips.

Buck giggles when Eddie does so, letting Eddie do whatever he wants to Buck.

A little while later, after they finished their movie and cleaned up the living room, they were cuddled together in Eddie’s bed, Buck’s head on Eddie’s chest, whispering to each other softly.

“Baby,” Eddie starts, running a gentle hand through Buck’s hair. “Would you like to move in with Christopher and me?”

Buck jolts up, looking at Eddie with wide eyes. “R-really?”

Eddie nods firmly. “Yes, absolutely. We love having you here, and I hate sleeping in the bed without you. So let's just do it every night.”

Buck beams. “Yes! Oh my God, I love you.”

Buck then throws his mouth onto Eddie’s, joining their lips for deep, passionate kisses, both of them smiling big as they make out, becoming a tangled mess in the sheets, celebrating more than just their birthdays, but also celebrating their next step in their relationship.

10:03 am, June 27, 2026

Buck is awakened the next morning by a teenager–his and Eddie’s teenager, to be specific–climbing onto the bed next to him, with a smug look on his face.

“Morning?” Buck greets, voice deep from sleep, wording it more like a question because he’s confused as to what is happening right now.

Chris grins. “Morning, Buck.”

Buck sits up and rests against the headboard, next to the teen, their shoulder’s pressed together.

“Morning, Superman,” Chris rolls his eyes, annoyed. “I’m not a kid anymore, Buck.”

“Yeah, you are. And you’re my kid, so let me have my fun. Plus, it’s my birthday, so it would be rude if you didn’t let me do it on my birthday,” Buck teases, kissing Chris’s head.

Surprisingly, the teen doesn’t grumble and move away; he just lets Buck do his thing.

“Happy birthday, Buck,” Chris says, looking up at him.

Buck smiles. “Thanks, Superman.”

Chris groans as he rolls his eyes, making Buck laugh, and that’s when Eddie walks in carrying a tray of various breakfast items, ranging from pancakes to eggs to bacon to freshly squeezed orange juice.

“What are we laughing about?” Eddie asks, placing the tray in Buck’s lap.

“Nothing,” they both say in unison, then Buck looks down at the tray with wide eyes, glancing up at Eddie.

“What’s this for, Eds?” Buck has to ask.

Eddie shrugs and smiles. “Well, it’s your birthday today, so I’m spoiling you. Plus, we’re taking the next step in our relationship, and it deserves to be celebrated.”

Buck smiles bashfully, blushing.

“Wait, you finally asked him?!” Chris asks.

Eddie looks at the teen, still grinning. “I sure did, and he said yes.”

Chris beams. “I told you he would, Dad.”

Eddie rolls his eyes. “Yeah, yeah.”

“Wait,” Buck interjects, mouthful of pancakes. “How long have you been planning to ask me this, babe?”

“Four months,” Eddie answers simply.

Buck nearly chokes on his food. “We’ve been dating for four months, Eddie!”

“I know, that’s why I waited a bit because I wanted to make sure we do this right. I want this to work, so I waited.”

“You, uh, didn’t have to wait, Eds. I still would have said yes, no matter if it was a day after we got together, two weeks, or four months.”

“Well, I wasted a lot of time then,” Eddie says to himself, chuckling, sitting at the edge of the bed by Buck’s feet–he’s wearing colorful, fluffy socks. God, he’s adorable. Eddie loves him so much.

“Nah, I liked that we waited. But don’t think I’m going to hesitate to end my lease and move in here as quickly as I can,” Buck says, chowing down on a strip of perfectly crispy bacon.

Eddie snorts, placing a hand on one of Buck’s legs. “Good.”

Buck grins, shoveling a bite of eggs into his mouth.

“What time are we leaving for Bobby and Athena’s?” Chris asks, interrupting Buck and Eddie’s intense staring at each other.

“Uhm,” Buck clears his throat. “In a few hours. We have time for a light lunch and presents,” Buck wiggles his eyebrows, glancing over at Eddie for that last part.

Eddie smiles. “Good, now eat up, baby,” Eddie gently smacks Buck’s leg. “Then we can do presents.”

Buck nods, going back to eating. “Sounds good to me. Thanks for this, by the way, it’s delicious.”

Eddie points to Chris. “I had help.”

The teen smiles, proud of himself. “Thank you, now I am going to my room to finish up my homework assignment that’s due tomorrow.”

“You were supposed to have that done yesterday!” Buck yells with a bite of eggs in his mouth, turning to look at the teenager, who wears a guilty expression.

“Sorry?” Yeah, he doesn’t sound sorry–he’s not. “Bye!”

The teen scurries out of the room before either of his dads can ridicule him for his video game habits.

Buck and Eddie sigh simultaneously at their kid’s actions, giving each other the “we will talk about this with him later” face.

The couple chats while Buck eats–Eddie and Chris ate before bringing Buck his food–and then as soon as Buck is finished, he pushes the tray out of his lap, onto the bed next to his legs, reaching for Eddie, grabbing his wrists, pulling the brunette right into his lap.

Eddie goes more than willingly, letting their lips connect, making out softly as their hands roam everywhere on the other.

They do not leave Eddie’s–their, Buck lives here now–bedroom for an hour. Chris is none the wiser; he’s now finished with his homework and is playing video games.

A little while later, they do presents.

They do presents in the living room, Chris sitting between the couple on the couch.

“Can I go first?” The teen asks his dads.

The two men nod as the teenager grabs one of the bags from the coffee table and hands it to Buck. It’s very light.

Buck opens it up immediately, revealing a large envelope.

Buck’s brows furrow as he looks at the teen, pulling the envelope out of the bag and setting the bag down on the ground.

“Open it,” the teen insists.

Buck does not really know what to expect as he pulls a stack of papers out of it.

Then he sees the words "Adoption Papers" bolded at the top of the first page.

Buck gasps, nearly dropping the papers as he stares at Chris and his boyfriend. “Y-You want me to adopt you, Chris?”

Chris nods vigorously,  “Yes, you're already my dad. This just makes it official.”

Buck smiles, tears welling up in his eyes. “Thanks, buddy. I would love to adopt you.”

Chris throws his arms around Buck, knocking the papers out of Buck’s hands in the process, and Buck hugs the teenager back, doing everything he can to hold in the tears, feeling Eddie’s eyes on him.

When the two pull back, Buck looks over at Eddie. “Y-You’re okay with this?”

Eddie looks at Buck like the answer is obvious–which it is. “Of course, Buck. He came to me with the idea. It’s his present to us.”

“Well, thank you, Chris. I will sign them when we are done with presents, and the tears stop blocking my vision.”

Eddie and Chris laugh at that, their eyes glossy too.

Then Buck and Eddie exchange presents.

Chris moves to the opposite side of the couch, so Buck and Eddie can be next to each other.

Buck grabs his present, smirking as he hands it to Eddie, because he knows Eddie will love it.

Eddie takes the present with a bright smile, cheeks slightly flushed. He then excitedly unwraps the box, throwing the bow at Chris to make the teenager laugh. When Eddie opens the box, he sees that it’s a hoodie.

Eddie grins over at Buck as he pulls the hoodie out of the box, holding it up in the air, letting it unfold, revealing a navy hoodie with a massive buck deer on the front of it, with text below it that says, “I got Bucked.”

Eddie laughs and blushes at Buck, and Chris cringes, but doesn’t say anything and lets them have their moment.

“I, uh, even wore it a few times, so it smells like me. It’s also an extra large,” Buck tells Eddie.

Eddie gasps happily, throwing his arms around Buck, letting the hoodie fall into his lap. “I love it, baby, thank you. I will be wearing this a lot and will require you to wear it occasionally, so it will still smell like you.”

Buck laughs, kissing Eddie’s cheek. “Deal.”

Chris resists the urge to gag, but he holds it in.

“Okay, your turn,” Eddie says, handing Buck his present, the two sitting so close their thighs are practically overlapping.

Buck grins, taking the gift, immediately ripping it open like a kid on Christmas.

Eddie stares like the love-sick dork he is at his adorable boyfriend.

Chris rolls his eyes at his ridiculous dads.

Buck pulls an apron out of the box when he fully unwraps it, gasping at the text on the front of it: “Kiss the Cook 💋”

Buck grins at Eddie. “Oh my God, baby, I love this!”

Eddie chuckles, face bright pink. “You’re welcome. I’m glad you like it. And before, when you were cooking, I kissed you because I wanted to, and now I have to. The apron says so.”

Buck throws his head back and laughs hysterically. “I love you.”

Eddie smiles. “I love you too.”

“Blegh!” Chris gags. “Can I go back to my room and play video games now before we go to the party later?”

Buck and Eddie tell him it’s fine, then once he’s gone, they set their presents aside. Buck slides closer to Eddie, basically in his lap, their legs and arms tangled together as they make out softly.

“Happy birthday, amor de mi vida,” Eddie whispers into the kiss. (Love of my life.)

Buck smiles into the kiss, whispering back, “I love you.”

“Love you too.”

Then Eddie shoves Buck down on his back on the couch, sticking his face in Buck’s neck, nibbling along it. “Let’s go celebrate before our party, amor. There may be one more present for you that I’m wearing that you’ll have to unwrap.”

Buck gasps. “Bedroom, now.”

The two scramble up from the couch, tumble down the hallway to their bedroom, locking the door behind them, having to make sure to keep it down so their teenager doesn't hear what his dads are up to.

5:32 pm, June 27, 2026

Buck, Eddie, and Christopher arrive earlier than planned, as Buck wanted to help Bobby with dinner, and Chris goes to play video games with Denny in the den. Eddie goes to talk to Hen and Karen about the upcoming trip to the science museum that the boys were so excited about talking about nonstop with Buck joining in after helping Bobby finish with dessert with all the facts he had learned, making Hen roll her eyes playfully, and Eddie stares at him longingly.

30 minutes later, Bobby and Athena call everyone for dinner. Buck and Eddie sit next to one another as everyone digs into their meal. Eddie grabs a hold of Buck's hand, smiling at him as Buck blushes and Christopher rolls his eyes, noticing the way Buck is looking.

Maddie squints her eyes, noticing the longing look Eddie gives her brother from across the table before turning her attention back to baby Kevin, who is making a mess of his lasagna, and Chimney laughs.

Once dinner finishes, half of the crew, not including Buck and Eddie, sets up presents in the living room for the two of them while the other half, including Buck and Eddie, cleans up the dishes from the meal.

Everyone gathers in the living room once everything is finished.

After the presents are over, Buck walks over to Eddie, grinning smugly, hands on his belt. “Your present was still the best one out of all of them. Well, adoption papers are hard to beat, but you know what I mean.”

Eddie giggles, cheeks turning red. “Yeah, I know what you mean. Yours was the best, too. I wish I were wearing it right now.”

Buck grins. “Once we’re home. And with nothing but a pair of boxers on underneath.”

Eddie nods and bites at his bottom lip, eyes locking on Buck’s lips.

Buck licks his own lips, staring at Eddie’s.

Then they throw their arms around each other, locking their lips for a few seconds before pulling away, staring at each other lovingly.

“I told you guys! Pay up!” Christopher shouts, breaking their eye contact, their heads jerking over to look at their teenager, who’s holding his hands out, cash being placed into them by everyone.

“You bet on us?” Eddie asks.

Christopher rolls his eyes. “Duh, Dad, this is my college fund.”

Buck chuckles, “That's our son, Eds.”

Eddie gazes at Buck softly, “I know.”
