I wish I knew what to do.
Wish that there was something that I could do to ease the burden on your mind,
To soothe the worry and despair I know fights inside your head.
I worry for you.
Too much, I admit,
But what else am I to do?
You are the light.
You are the birdsong in the air in early spring.
You are the oasis in an endless desert.
To see you clip your wings,
To undermine the faith you have in yourself,
To watch as you drown under the pressure of a thousand thoughts,
It kills me.
I hear the story from a friend,
Of the unfaithfulness of their chosen.
Of accidental negligence that led to infidelity.
An unwarranted consequence to a simple mistake.
It seems such a small thing,
In my heart and in my mind,
To remain loyal.
Dedicated to only one.
Our path leads down a road I alone cannot navigate.
The way is uneven and blocked by obstacles only you can move.
I have the map forward,
But you hold the key.
I will support you when the weight becomes too much,
If you let me.
I will listen as you shout your frustrations and worries to the sky,
If you let me.
But through it all,
As I have said so, so many times,
I will wait.
I have been waiting.
Nothing will take me from this task I have dedicated myself to.
Not a word or a strike or an action from another,
I remain at your side.
Maybe to let you go,
Would be the easier way.
Perhaps spare myself from the pain of watching you cut yourself down, over and over.
But nothing in life is easy.
If our love was easy,
It would not be real.
If our love was simple,
It wouldn't be worth the fight.
You are worth the fight.
You are my cause.
I only hope one day you will understand the things I've done to remain at your side, and you will understand the boundless range of my love for you.
