To Pass
Is there any true way to be a man?
To present as society wants me to
To play the part, be the woman you want me to be
not the boy man that I am
I study the script and wear the costume
I perform your roles till my throat is dry
But it is never enough — I do not pass
May act like one, may dress like one
But I was not born one
a man I mean, a boy if you must —
and In your eyes, I could never truly be one
Too woman to be a man
even if I may not feel like one.
So go on then tell me what I am
As you so often do
Tell me where I belong
Since I blur your lines
Can not fit in your little boxes
Tell me how to dress and how to act
Go on then tell me how to pass —
Tell me how I fail your tests
Because I can not fit your math.
