Hecuba's Completely Normal Restaurant

Work Text:

Hecuba's new shop at spawn introduced another unique currency to Project Singularity: Hecubucks. The listed exchange rates using other materials were mostly based on the values set by Tofucorp's TofuCoin (which was worth ¼ of a Hecubuck), seeming perfectly normal other than the option at the top of the list: 1 Hecubuck for 16 human flesh. The restaurant boasted its "100% Natural Ingredients sourced from Local businesses" on a sign above the door, and those in the know about the shop's business practices technically couldn't object to that description. (Everyone on the server knew. Hecuba was really not being subtle about it) The menu was overwhelmingly meat-based, although Hecuba promised to expand the stock as much as possible in the future to assist with increasing the other server members' max health.

The truth was, none of the other players really cared that much where the food came from. It wasn't like the exact ingredients used made a difference to the final product. Stock made with beef, human meat, or vegetables would all stack together, after all, just like the way seed soup made from stock and any kind of seed was counted as the exact same item. While eating raw human flesh on its own would give a player a moment of slowness and weakness, foods made with it would give no such debuffs. When VIX News came out with a story accusing Hecuba of cannibalism, the newscaster pretended to be outraged, but it was immediately followed by a sponsored ad about Hecuba's standing offer to pay steel for human meat. Hecuba continued to have success buying human meat even after the news report came out. It was possible that the cannibalism actually made the restaurant more popular than it would have been otherwise. After all, it got the word out.
