Summary
It had been roughly five years since Emma first stepped through the doors of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Most of those were spent in the hospital’s basement, the heart of the Department of Emergency Medicine. The relentless pace, constant chaos, and sleepless nights were taking a toll on her psyche, and she longed for a reprieve. Desperate for a change, Emma enrolled in the perioperative training program, hoping the order and routine of the operating room would offer some refuge. After completing her training, she was assigned to orthopedics—not the role she had dreamed of, but a chance she could work with.
