Work Text:
On a relaxing Saturday night, both Subaru and Saku were still working as hard as the next day would never come. She had been going through her client files, reviewing reports and organizing case documents late into the night.
The entire week had been exhausting, drafting legal notices, preparing arguments, cross-checking evidence, and updating case briefs all due to a new client who had been so careless that he hadn’t even bothered to prepare a basic report.
Now, she was left piecing everything together herself, sorting through scattered information and building the case from scratch.
Feeling worn out, she leaned back into her comfy sofa and glanced toward the dining table, where Saku Natsusawa, the same boy who had finally confessed to her in his first year of university, after hiding his feelings for more than two years, the same man she had married two years ago.
His eyes were just as intense as they had been on their first date. After spending the whole day together, they were about to part ways when she walked a few steps ahead, then suddenly turned back and ran to him. Holding his face in her hands, she kissed him softly, yet with quiet certainty, gently breaking the distance he had kept out of consideration for her past.
Those old memories made her heart feel warm. She got up from the sofa and hugged him from behind, placing both her arms on his chest and her head on his shoulder. She could still smell the faint fragrance of the detergent on his clothes, the one they had picked up from the supermarket just last week.
Absentmindedly, she ran her fingers through his hair, twirling soft strands around them. It had become her quiet habit, playing with his hair like this. Lying close, her ear resting against his chest, she listened to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, letting it come to her into a peace she had come to crave.
But the response she heard next made her angry.
"Subaru, please don't. I'm busy right now."
She gave a annoyed look away from him with a pout.
"No, I'm recharging myself, just bear me."
“Please, I’m currently preparing the question paper for Wednesday’s mathematics class test.”
She backed away and stared at him with an annoyed look, her hands folded. Then, suddenly, a mischievous idea crossed her mind.
She again leaned towards him, this time she grabbed her face and pressed her lips on his, knocking the breath out of him. Then he leaned in and deepened the kiss, pressing his lips more firmly against hers.
Suddenly, she pulled back and gave him a smirk.
"It's your punishment. Now I'm not letting you kiss me for at least a week."
Those words made him feel anxious and uneasy, and he spoke back anxiously
"What …., you can't."
He rose to catch her, but she slipped away, running through the house with a bright, playful grin. He chased her down and finally caught her in the kitchen.
He then carefully picked her up with a grin on his face, one hand supporting her waist and the other under her knees, as if she weighed nothing.
This made her flustered, and to hide her embarrassment, she rested her head on his chest, and then a shy blush spread across her face, and she muttered under his breath.
"Hmm.. you smell pretty nice."
His ear turned red on hearing those words, and then the words left his mouth with a sigh.
"No one in this world can tease me like you."
"Looks like I need to teach you a lesson today …. Subaru chan," he said, his voice teasing and mischievous, his fingertips carefully gliding through her silver hair, sending a quiet warmth through her.
Her face flushed a deep crimson, and her heart pounded wildly in her chest as if it might leap out of her chest.
He then took her to their bedroom, gently lay her down with his nose gracing her. He could feel her warm breath, their faces just a fingertip away.
He then placed his lips on her neck. She gave a soft sigh, feeling the gentle heat rising within her whole body. His one hand reached for her waist, gently moving his fingertips as he had memorised everything about her deep in his heart.
Another hand holding her right hand with their fingers interwined. He lifted her chin slightly, guiding her closer, his touch lingering as he moved slowly between her neck and collarbone with his lips.”
She was overwhelmed by the softness of his touch, his lips against her skin making everything else disappear, as if her tiredness had never existed. She wanted to stay in that moment forever.
But then, he broke the kiss and spoke with a playful smirk on his face.
" I will punish you again if you ever repeat those words."
She nodded in agreement, her breath still uneven. She wanted more, but hesitation held her back. She knew just how intense he could be, how deeply he could make her feel.
"I want to go on a date. It’s been a long time since we last went on one."
"Can you take out some time?”
She said shyly, her face hidden beneath the pillow.
“Fine, I’ll get my work done very soon."
"We're going on a date tomorrow.”
He said gently, in a tone like a parent comforting a child after scolding them.
"Okay," She hummed.
Saku went back to the living room to finish setting up the question paper.
She stayed lying on the bed, burying her face in the pillow. Remembering his touch on her waist, the gentle taste of his lips. Finally, the exhaustion took over, and she entered a calm, peaceful state; her eyelids felt heavier, and then she fell asleep with relaxed breath.
After finishing setting the question paper, he went to his bedroom and saw the peaceful look on her sleeping face; she was like a star fallen to earth, only for him. He smiled inwardly.
Sitting beside her, he softly ran his fingers through her hair, taking care not to wake her. Those same strands that defined her, that set his heart racing whenever they moved. And to touch them like this, so gently, felt like an honor that belonged only to him.
He lay down beside her and gently gathered her into his arms. Even in her sleep, she stirred at his touch, instinctively turning toward him and resting her head against his chest, as if she had always known her place was there.
He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, his hold tightening just enough to keep her close, and slowly drifted into a quiet, contented sleep. Lying there together, they seemed like the moon and its light, which never truly separate, even in darkness, one existed because of the other, bound in a silent, unbreakable connection that neither distance nor time could ever undo.
