In the future, trapped and alone, on the run from his hardened enemies, a young Danny Phantom finds friendly plot exposition in the lair of an aged, broken Vlad Masters. We're supposed to take his words at face value. After all, why would he lie?
Because the truth would break the child. And so we're told a pretty little lie.
