What If... (Squid Game Version)

Summary:

What if Gi-hun and his crew survived in Season 3? What if Gi-hun manages to stop the games once and for all?

Thousands of people were murdered here, thousands of bodies burned to the ground to only be forgotten. To them, this was just a regular basis, people died just for some piece of paper as if it could cure everything. But not this time. This time I will stop these games once and for all, for Sang-woo, Sae-Byeok, Ali, and everyone else who died in these miserable games.

Chapter Text

"Sang-woo, let's go home. Together."

I extend my hand to meet his. Sang-woo's hand almost meets mine, but...

“I’m sorry hyung..”

Sang-woo’s hand slowly falls to the ground. His heart stops beating, the last thing he sees is me... Instead of both of us getting out, his blood oozed its way out of his body.

“SANG-WOO-YA! SOMEONE HELP HIM”, but no one saved him... They left him here to rot while I survived.

456 wakes up drenched in sweat. His eyes burned at the sight of the lights that practically blinded him, but he noticed something was off.. Tears were coming out of his eyes. He hasn't cried like this since… Sang-woo died. It had finally hit him that he was crying in his sleep since he dreamed about Sang-woo. 456 really missed him, that’s why he was crying. But 456 can’t be thinking about him right now. He first had to focus on what was going on right now.

456 was just observing the place, watching the newcomers, until he heard a familiar voice..

Jung-bae.

‘Why is Jung-Bae here? WHY?!, Gi-hun thought to himself. It took some time, but finally, 456 approached Jung-bae.

“Jung-bae, what are you doing here?” Gi-hun asks worryingly.

“Gi-hun?.. GI-HUN!. FUCK, YOU WERE ALIVE THIS WHOLE TIME?! WHY’D YOU BLOCK ME OFF HUH? I thought you died.. Why did you completely cut off everyone for three years? You know, I had to learn the hard way that your mom died.” Jung-bae was questioning Gi-hun like he was a master criminal and was asking him many questions at once.

“Move it people!” one player said.

“You guys are holding up the line!” another player said.

“Come here Jung-bae.” Gi-hun grabs his best friend's arm and drags him aside so they can talk things out.

“Trust me, it's not like that. I never meant to block you out.. It’s just.. It’s a long story.”

“Right. But you still should've told me about your mom, I was her favorite!”

“You're right, I should’ve told you. Okay, but what are you doing here in the first place? You still haven't told me the reason why."

“I um.. I got divorced.”

“What! Did you have an affair or something!?”

“Pfft, as if I could handle one!”

“And what about your kid?”

“With my wife.. Listen, let’s not talk about it here. Let’s talk about things when we get out of here and go for a drink, okay?”

Gihun then pins Jungbae to a nearby corner aggressively.

“Okay, but whatever happens from now on, stay near me,” Gi-hun says sternly.

“‘Stay close’? You’ve gotten melodramatic.”

“Just do as I say! YOU MUST STAY CLOSE BEHIND ME, I'M NOT JOKING.”

This time, Gihun was so close to losing his mind, but Jungbae had no idea how cruel these games could truly be. ‘He cannot be acting like this during serious matters!’ Gihun thought to himself.

“Alright man, I will!. Jeez. What, like this?” Jungbae puts his hands firmly on Gihun’s shoulders as if they were playing ‘Follow The Leader’ while smiling. “Anyways, what is this place, huh?”

Gihun could not answer that, actually... You can’t describe this using only one word. This place murdered innocent, evil humans. God, they practically made everyone lose their humanity. How would he describe this place to Jungbae?.

----------------------------------------X--------------------------------------------------

As everyone else walks through these dreadfully bright hallways, they finally make it to the game arena. Jungbae stood by Gihun’s side the whole time.

Once the game doors open, Gihun realizes what game they’re going to play..

The doll was practically staring at Gihun’s soul… Gihun’s heart begins to beat even faster than normal, all the memories come rushing like a bullet being shot. This means if his calculations are correct, they were playing…

Red light, Green light….

“What’s that?” pointing to the doll, Jungbae asked, including others.

The PA chimed in, announcing, “Your first game will be Red Light, Green Light”.

“We’re playing Red Light, Green Light!” Geum Ja said while smiling.

“See? We're playing games, not gambling.” Yong Sik said calmly.

“This is a children’s game.” Geum Ja said happily.

“Red Light, Green Light? The kid’s game?” Another player said.

Gihun then remembers that he has a tracker implanted in his mouth. He then starts trying to wiggle out his fake tooth that has the tracker.

“What are you doing?” Jungbae asks.

Gihun can only groan in pain from trying to take out his fake tooth. Eventually, Gihun manages to pop out the fake tooth after being in pain. Jungbae gasps in shock. “Is that your dental implant?” he asks. Gihun then flips over the fake tooth to see if the tracker is still there; his face turns pale.

The tracker’s gone…

'I fucked up...' Gihun thought to himself.

How will he save them now?...
