Never Anger A Kind Man

Summary:

Of the two guitarist of KC Core, Yugi is the milder of the two. Easy-going. The kind of person that’s willing to forgive someone who stabbed him. The kind of person who can take any insult to himself with a smile and a laugh. The kind of person that was slow to anger.

Based on “Basss-ed on a True Story”, who had me angry on Joey’s behalf in the story.

Work Text:

Of the two guitarist of KC Core, Yugi is the milder of the two. Easy-going. The kind of person that’s willing to forgive someone who stabbed him. The kind of person who can take any insult to himself with a smile and a laugh. The kind of person that was slow to anger.

“What the fuck, Kaiba?” he hissed as, his glare to the CEO harsh enough to slice through steel as he held up the lyrics to Hotel Mirrors. Lyrics written in Joey’s handwriting, crinkled and stained with some coffee and tomato sauce that was long absorbed into the sheet.

Hands twisted, but not the elder Kaibas, but the youngers. Something that Yugi didn’t notice as Seto crossed his arms.

“And what of it?” he stated, staring down his nose at the smaller man. It was almost arrogant, if it wasn’t for it conveniently shielding Mokuba from the furious figure in front of him.

“What of it? What of it? Your fucking cheating ass stole Joey’s song, passed it off as our, and used it in against the person that fucking wrote it! There’s a lot of shit that I can tolerate from you, Kaiba, but this. Ohhohoh, we are done.”

He grabbed his things and marched towards the door, seething at the injustice done to Joey.

“And what about your contract?” Seto stated, his voice clipped.

“And what will the public think once they learned you’re a thief,” Yugi hissed, not even bothering to look back as he wrenched the door open.

“You know if you do that, you’ll wreak your own reputation? No one will ever want to work with you again.”

“At least I’ll still have my integrity,” he growled, the unspoken implications stabbing his former bandmate in the throat.

Seto said nothing else as Yugi went out, nor at the following form of the other guitarist.

“Well look at that, following after Muto like the desperate dog you are,” Kaiba hissed, ATEM not even bothering to answer him as he calmly walked towards the open door. “What, nothing to say?”

“You know, I’m disappointed in you. For this, not trusting your own work enough to stand on its own. Taking from others, as if others don’t matter,” ATEM said, but he wasn’t looking at the elder Kaiba. No, his eyes looked pass Seto, right into Mokuba’s wide-eyed eyes.

He smirked, knowing that the right person was listening to him. “Well then, despite everything, I wish the best for you, and hope that you grow into a better person.”

ATEM closed the door as he left, the creaking of its joints deafening in the silent room, joining Yugi in whatever he’s planning next.

Seto huffed, turning dramatically as he went to his laptop, his mind racing to figure out how to spin this into a positive.

Mokuba just stood there, shaking, not even bothering to wipe the tears falling from his face, everything ruined because of him.

Notes:

For whatever reason, this story has me feeling things. Cause I know that if Yugi ever figured out that the song that won his band Battle City was stolen from JOEY? That would be a dealbreaker for him.

I can’t say if this is canon to the original piece, nor the vague half-planned idea about the guitarists forming a band with Yusei and Judai for a short while before going their separate ways, though unlike here, no one has any negative feelings about the other afterwards.
