Chapter Text
If there was one thing the Radio Demon prided herself on, it was how she viewed herself. How (in her eyes) How important she was. And how if she ever dared to give anyone even a semblance of romantic feelings, they had to be like her:
Formal, Graceful, Powerful.
They couldn’t be a sad nobody. They had to be someone. Maybe even as evil as she was. It was a lot to ask of someone. And most came up short in multiple departments in the end. Never able to keep up with her in anything. So she had resigned herself to the idea that she was probably going to be alone during her stay in hell. After all, she wasn’t going to settle for anything but the best.
Or at least, that’s what she thought…. Until she went to Charlie’s blasted hotel. And met someone so utterly stupid. Walking proof of the ditzy blonde stereotype. Who was also so pathetic. It made her long dead heart beat so very hard. Alison was sure it was defective! After all, what do you mean she liked the Queen of Hell of all people? That was absurd! There was no way she liked her. No way in hell. Which was just ironic. Luci was so.. stupid! And sad! And just an all around-
“Hey!! Are you listening you jerk?!” Luci’s usually sweet and clam voice (her only redeeming quality) Cut through Alison’s thought’s like a knife. The demon blinked, looking down at the very pissed off Queen. Luci placed her hand’s on her hips, glaring up at Alison as she tried to figure out what her game was. Had she even heard what she was talking about? Why Charlie had lumped them with each other for a bonding session she’d never understand. Leaving them with a list of things they had to do. Charlie had even specified that if they didn’t get half the list done. They would not be allowed to leave.
They had done maybe one thing on the list. And had been stuck in the room for about three hours already. But it wasn’t her fault! Alison was such a jerk! Even with her fluffy ears… very tall body and frankly adorable little tail that she tried to hide under her coats.
Wait what?
No! She did not think the Radio Demon was adorable! She was a pest! A thorn in her side that had some weird obsession with getting on her nerves and trying to parent her daughter! Like a weirdo. Not someone who was ‘adorable’.
Luci shook the thoughts from her head. Sighing softly as she sat down across from Alison. Still glaring at her, but it was much weaker. And Alison didn’t miss the slight god flush on her cheeks. They stared at each other for a moment. The silence stretching between them awkward and uncomfortable. Alison stared at her cane, rolling it between her fingers as she found herself for the first time ever, unable to find the words she needed. Which was just absurd and frankly odd. The Radio Demon? Lacking what to say? She never had nothing to say.
Luci was just growing more frustrated with every passing second of silence. “Well? Are you going to say anything? Or has that oh so annoying filtered voice finally left us?” Luci crossed her arms. Waiting for literally any kind of response. Maybe even a response to the questions she had tried to ask? So they could get out of here. But Alison was so eerily quiet. Staring right at Luci, making her very uncomfortable. Both of them made the mental note to talk to Charlie later. This was utter torture. “Ugh say something you creep!”
Luci continued to whine, rambling off nonsense that went through one twitching red ear and out the other. Alison was simply staring at her. Taking in every little detail as Luci ranted. She was oddly cute when mad.
“You run your mouth when your frustrated. Do any of your insults ring true?” Alison asked, her usual grin returning as Luci stuttered, blushing a bright gold as all words died on her lips. “S-Shut up!?” Luci turned away with a pout. She was not going to let Alison get to her. But the other woman was already walking over, crowding Luci against her chair and tilting her head up with a surprising gentleness that had Luci blushing even harder. “You are so annoying you know?” Alison asked, looking Luci up and down. Taking in every little detail she could. Hm, very cute.
This was driving her mad.
Alison glanced at the scrap of paper beside Luci. The list Charlie had given them, all crumbled up in Luci’s frustration. Alison picked it up, not missing how Luci tried to follow her hand as it left her chin. Her eyes flickering with something other then hate as she watched her. It looked like disappointment. As though she wanted Alison to continue. Instead she got to work smoothing out the paper between her claws. All the questions were just plain stupid. Generic things like ‘what’s your favourite food, or colour.’ And other various things Charlie thought would help people get along.
No, this would just cause everyone to be uncomfortable.
“If your going to make fun of Charlie’s ideas. Don’t.” Luci hissed. “She’s my little girl and whatever she wants we do.” Luci glanced away. “I don’t want to upset her…” That last part was quiet. But Alison heard it loud and clear. That was probably the one singular thing they had in common. That finger came back to tilt Luci’s head yet again. And Alison took the second to look her over yet again. “That is something we have in common then my dear.” She sat down, beside Luci this time. And waved the paper around. “Charlie’s ideas are a bit hair brained. And crazy. But she’s a sweet girl. Who tries her hardest. And I can respect that.” She explained. It was true. She truly did respect Charlie’s determination. Even if she did make fun of it sometimes.
Luci watched her closely. She was nervous about the whole thing. Who knew what Alison would plan. But the little comment about Charlie made her happy. At least they could get along on that.
“Well, I suppose if we must get along… We can humour Charlie’s little idea?” Alison asked.
“I-I’d.. Like that.”
“No! I don’t like that TV head, whatever his name is!” Luci explained, a hand over where her heart would be. In absolute shock that Alison would suggest such a thing. The pair had started answering Charlie’s questions. Slowly getting over the awkwardness and ending up on the floor, Luci’s legs kicked over Alison’s lap as the queen stared up at the ceiling. They had gotten through about five questions. Gotten distracted ten times. And realised, they truly only really had Charlie’s interests in common.
“I don’t even know his name. Hell’s I don’t even watch TV!” Oh, never mind make that two things in common! Alison’s hand’s came to rest on Luci’s legs. And neither reacted as Alison began to massage Luci’s legs, humming a quietless song as she worked. Luci blindly reached for the paper. Looking for the next question as she relaxed into the touch.
“What... do you want in a partner….” Luci stared at the question. The tense feeling creeping back in as she abruptly sat up. Nearly kicking Alison in the guts as she moved. “M-Maybe we ought to stop.” She muttered. Looking away as Alison blinked slowly. The question slowly processing. And a bright flush creeped onto her own face. And she quickly nodded as she got up herself. “Mhm that would.. be a good idea.” Luci grabbed her own cane, gave Alison a quiet goodbye, before vanishing in a puff of red sparkles. Leaving Alison alone in a now horribly quiet room. With a small rubber duck left in her place. Which she stared at for a few minutes. Trying to will herself to walk away. To do something. Anything. But she couldn't. Her mind focused on that damn question.
It wasn’t that she didn’t have an answer for the question, she did! But, in those few hours… She felt as though everything she wanted in an appropriate partner, had been thrown out of the window and trampled on. Which just stressed Alison out. What was it about that little ditz that made everything she believed she knew crumble in mere couple of hours? And why did she want to pursue this new feeling? What was it they said? Opposites attract?
She had always thought that statement silly. Wouldn’t it make sense to be with someone who had something similar to yourself? Or was that just tied to her ego. And her pride?
Alison took a deep breath. No, this was just a fleeting moment of weakness. She would go back to normal once she was out of this room and in her own. She called on her shadows, ready to travel through to avoid Charlie. But as her shadow went to pull her down, she froze, as a sudden, horrible realisation hit her.
Both of them could have left through any other means other then the door at any point. But they hadn’t. They had both stayed. To talk, to get to know each other… Alison screamed into her hands, her poor shadow looking confused as she all but had a meltdown over the realisation. Not knowing Luci was pacing around in her own room doing the exact same.
Something had been planted and both were doomed.
