"The worn-down heels of Vox’s shoes were not ideal. Alastor had been pestering him to get the things replaced for months, and Vox bitterly wished he’d done so. In the best of situations–on mildly tacky linoleum, and within the temperature-controlled safety of an office–they were a minor safety hazard. He couldn’t count the number of times he’d slipped and lost his hold on an important paper or a cup of coffee because of the complete lack of traction they offered. Which meant they most certainly were not the shoes one wanted to be wearing while running from a gang of pissed-off loan sharks."

Angel twitched. “The new guy. I can’t pin him down. He’s straight right?”
“As a level, why?” Husk peers across the lobby at the new guy as casually as a bartender can. He never gets spotted, so Angel doesn’t understand why HE gets spotted. It makes no sense.
With a tap at the bar counter, Angel leans closer over his drink and whispers. “He’s totally checking out the King’s ass.”

“Oh, I didn’t peg our king as someone that cared for anniversaries, but it seems as I was wrong!”
At that, Alastor bent his head curiously to one side.
“Anniversary?”
“Of course, my dear! You said it yourself, didn’t you? If he’s giving you these presents every few weeks, they are surely meant as anniversary gifts!”
Cautiously, the Radio Demon went over his mental calendar, checking the times at which Lucifer had appeared with one of his offerings. Always the same day, every month, as far as he could tell. Which, if he remembered corrected, was the same day that they had become… them.
“Ah” was all the eloquence that left his mouth.

Summary
Heaven, Hell and the mortal realm have always existed. Humans were born of free will, Heaven and Hell attempting to persuade their choices in life to prepare them to enter their respective kingdoms in death. Eventually a Great War broke out between angels and demons that threatened to rip all three realms apart. That was thousands of years ago, so long that the demons in Hell no longer have records of the finer points of waging war with Heaven. Peace between had been tentative at best since the war and eventually collapsed.
The angels began to exterminate the demons of Hell once a year. Every year the demons became more resentful. More determined to rise up. All they needed was an edge. It unexpectedly came one night when Overload Alastor witnessed a star crashing down. Imagine his utter delight to discover that for the first time in known history an Angel had fallen.
Oh this will be fun.
