Work Text:
"I think I could survive," Gokuraku says, looking over the edge of a large cliff into the dark blue water of the sinkhole below them.
"Definitely," Ichi agrees, nodding along as he considers the same drop a few feet to the left of Gokuraku.
"You guys would not survive!" Kumugi all but screeches, completely taken aback and terrified by their stupidity.
"But Kumugi-!" "We could-!" The boys say over each other, neither stepping away from the ledge.
Kumugi argues with them in vain as they start pulling off their clothes so they can jump into the lake. Even if they survive the 50 meter dive into the water there's still a dangerous human-hating majik hidden in the depths.
She's trying to explain everything to them, but Ichi and Gokuraku are confident they'll be fine.
"We're supposed to be hunting this majik anyways," Gokuraku argues.
Ichi nods along. "Exactly, I can get us out quickly if we need to."
"But-"
"Stay here just in case, Mugi-Mugi!"
"Wait-"
And before Kumugi can get another word in the boys are jumping feet first off the cliff with excited yells as they free fall through the air. Kumugi rushes towards the edge and falls to her knees just in time to peer down at the lake and see two large splashes of water as the boys hit the surface.
Their laughs bounce up the canyon walls and Kumugi lets out a sigh and she scrambles away from the edge and slumps against a tree in relief. Desscaras can never find out about this.
...
Kumugi is ready to tear her hair out.
Ichi and Gokuraku have been arguing about who would win in a fight between a shark and a bear for the past hour. She would leave, but they've already followed her from the living room to the library to her bedroom and Kumugi is running out of places to go.
"But, Icchan, a shark could easily bite a bear's arm off. They've got huge teeth!" Gokuraku throws his arms out and bares his own canines to emphasize how big the teeth are.
Ichi shakes his head like Gokuraku is disappointing him. "Sharks can't even breathe on land! A bear could easily tear a shark apart with it's claws."
Kumugi feels like she's actively loosing brain cells.
Gokuraku scoffs. "Uh, how would a shark even get on land? The fight is happening in the water, obviously!"
"Obviously?" Ichi says incredulously. "A bear would still win in water! They eat fish, they could eat a shark!"
"Oh, please," Gokuraku says, crossing his arms, "a bear would never see the shark coming."
Ichi looks like he might start physically fighting Gokuraku any second now; not unusual, but Kumugi doesn't want them to make a mess of her room.
"Guys!" She interrupts, grabbing their attention successfully. "I bet Shirabedonna could settle your argument."
And Kumugi feels a little bad about sending them her way, but the blissful silence that follows their mad scramble out of her room is worth it.
...
They're all enjoying a picnic in one of the Academy's many courtyards. It was Desscaras' idea, though Kumugi suspects her interest lies more in the food aspect than the spending quality time together aspect. Kumugi doesn't mind, the snacks and finger food they get are delicious.
Desscaras, in a move that surprised nobody, ordered her own set of food just for herself and another set of food for the rest of them to share.
Kumugi didn't mind, she ate her fill and left the rest of it for Ichi and Gokuraku to fight over.
And they are fighting over it.
In an incredible show of restraint, Ichi and Gokuraku were politely letting Kumugi set the pace for what they ate so she could get her fair share. As soon as she was done, the picnic blanket turned into a battle field.
Kumugi and Desscaras have been watching them fight over the last triangle shaped sandwich for the past several minutes. They're' tangled together, Ichi pinning Gokuraku down as the bigger man tries to bring the sandwich to his mouth. Ichi is struggling against Gokuraku, pulling Gokuraku's arm away from his mouth as Gokuraku pushes Ichi's head away from his hand.
Desscaras watches with barely concealed annoyance and Kumugi is glad there's nobody else in this courtyard right now.
At some point, Gokuraku manages to get the sandwich in his mouth. Ichi- an insane person- sticks his fingers in Gokuraku's mouth and pulls away with a chunk of bread and jam that he puts in his mouth and swallows before Gokuraku can react.
Kumugi looks away while gagging as Desscaras yells at them in disgust. Gokuraku and Ichi only laugh as Desscaras gives them a lecture on being less disgusting.
...
Kumugi needs to get better at riding hoverboards, which is why she agreed to go along with Ichi and Gokuraku to the flight training course. She spends about an hour shakily looping the beginning track meant for young students while Ichi and Gokuraku tackle the larger, more complex, flight course.
She's slowing down, getting ready to call it quits and put away her hoverboard when Ichi and Gokuraku pass by in a blur- and Kumugi isn't entirely sure if she actually sees what she thinks she just saw. She immediately hops off the death trap that witches consider transportation and trips over herself to get to a viewing platform for the advanced course.
Ichi and Gokuraku are riding their boards at top speeds; Ichi is riding normally while Gokuraku is completely upside down. Their hands are clasped together, holding on tight as they fly by obstacles. They're both sporting the same manic smile.
Kumugi is almost impressed.
She's much more worried about their safety.
With no way to stop them from being stupid, Kumugi can only watch.
In an incredible show of skill, the boys swap places as they turn a corner. Kumugi debates whether or not the maneuver was planned or if the sharp turn made them readjust. When they hit the next turn, Ichi and Gokuraku swap places again with a laugh.
It doesn't take long before they crash, Gokuraku's board catches the edge of a wall and they spin out landing in a heap on the floor. She panics for a moment before the boys get up and start excitedly yelling about how much fun that was and how they want to do it again.
Kumugi sighs and turns to leave. She is not going to be here when they seriously hurt themselves.
