Chapter Text
Long ago, there existed giant beings of pure chakra. They leveled mountains with a single strike, destroyed forests with ease, and roamed the lands as they pleased. They were powerful, and in true human fashion, different people sought out that power for their own gain. Their best efforts to obtain it, however, proved to be futile. Every attempt to tame the ‘Tailed Beasts’ only ended in failure, sometimes even enraging the things they sought to command even further. The creatures didn’t appreciate the thought of being controlled; a life of servitude was not the most pleasant existence, after all.
Over time, the greed that humans once harbored for the creatures’ power was overshadowed by rage and repulsion directed at the beings themselves.
“How dare these things defy us?”
“Those demons should learn their place!”
“The beasts have too much power to roam without human intervention!”
It wasn’t before long before almost everyone reached a unanimous decision: The Tailed Beasts were to be destroyed.
The first one to go was the ‘One-Tail’, as they called it. They were nothing special, the mob that took it down. They were simply a large crowd. Thousands of men, all trained to some degree and all burning with hatred and fury for the Tailed Beasts. It was scary what a large number of people could do. Scary enough that the few who felt sympathy for the creatures swallowed their opinions without hesitation.
Every single one of the Tailed Beasts were gone only a year after the One-Tails’ eradication. Some reveled in their newfound ‘peace’, celebrating for weeks and drinking until they couldn’t see straight. Others were skeptical, not believing that a creature of that grandeur could simply die.
Then, decades later, the ‘Jinchuuriki’ were discovered.
Word had gone around of children, all spread out across different clans and villages, doing the unspeakable: They remembered their previous lives.
They could describe locations, events, and people down to the minute detail, even if they hadn’t yet been born to see them. They had skills that could only be obtained from years, if not decades of training. Most peculiar of all, they all claimed the same thing:
They were the reincarnations of the Tailed Beasts.
It wasn’t hard to believe, for these children all possessed unnatural, sometimes unsettling features. Markings, claws, fangs; there was no denying it. The demons were back, and this time, nobody would let them roam free.
Laws were set into motion. Restrictions were placed. Force was used to shove the Jinchuuuriki out of the spotlight and restrict them as much as possible. Little by little, the average civilian would forget their mere existence, most under Chunin rank never even hearing the term ‘Jinchuuriki’. The Tailed Beasts had become a thing of myth and fable, at least to the masses.
Still, that did not stop the average citizen from sensing something amiss about certain people around them.
