Work Text:

Breakfast in Bed

It was unusual for Nya to wake up along with the sun. (And by wake up she meant to stir to the other side of the bed.) Sure, she begrudgingly woke up for Master Wu's morning training, but Master Wu wasn't here. She was in the Land of Lee with her amnesiac Yang, who she just realized wasn't in the bed beside her.

She inched closer to his side of the bed, her fingers brushing against cold sheets. He had left a while ago. And what was that smell making her mouth water?

"Alright, lady, up and attum. Time to start the day!" Jay shook her awake.

"I'm up, I'm up…ugh. Jay, what time is it?" Nya sat up, utterly confused.

"I'll pretend I didn't hear that name, but we need to get up now and start scouting before everyone wakes up. Now eat, get dressed, and let's get going!" From out of nowhere, Jay Rogue produced a tray of pancakes drizzled in butter, a glass of orange juice beside them, and placed it on her lap.

Nya suddenly felt underdressed in just a nightgown, her hair loose around her shoulders. "Did you make all this?"

"Surprisingly, Lee has detailed cooking guides and lots of fresh ingredients." Jay shrugged. "Anyway, I got hungry and made some breakfast, and I figured breakfast in bed makes me look like a good husband, but now's not the time for yapping. I'll be back in fifteen."

"Come on, it'll be fine if we slow down a bit. Eat with me," Nya insisted.

Jay's cheeks flushed. "No, thanks. I ate some apples earlier. I'll be back soon."

He left before she could argue. Nya took a bite of the pancakes.

Mhmm. Jay's gotten a lot better.

What she really wanted to ask was: Did you make these pancakes for me?

Pet Names. Are You Serious? °‧ 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 ·。

"What should I call you?" Nya asked one night, staring at the ceiling.

"Do you mind? I'm trying to sleep." Rogue groaned and turned to his side. "And just call me Rogue."

"Sorry, sorry. But no, I mean pet names. Like sweetie, or honey?"

He rolled back over. "And why would we do that?"

"It makes us look more legitimate."

He considered this. "Sounds dumb. But if it helps."

"Okay, ~honey."

"No. Choose something else."

"Sweetie?"

"No."

"Sparky?"

Rogue shot her a look. "Way too obvious. We don't want them finding anything out."

"Sparky could refer to anything. Like you could have gotten electrocuted before, and it made your hair frizzy."

"Better safe than sorry. No."

Nya sighed dramatically. "Fine. Dear."

He relaxed slightly. "Doesn't sound bad. Alright."

"Then I'm your love, no questions asked."

"Yeah, I will ask questions like—"

But before he could finish, her breathing had already evened out, her eyes closed.

Rogue stared at her sleeping face. "Gahh. So annoying."

Don't You Remember? Red Roses Mean I Love You

"What's the point of giving red roses to your loved ones?” Jay asked, handing you her a bouquet he'd produced from somewhere. "Lee just happens to have a whole greenhouse full of them with just a mechanical light. Romance doesn't make sense."

Nya pressed the flowers to her nose, inhaling deeply. "That's absolutely hilarious coming from you. Red roses are the simplest way to say I love you. I've explained this to you before."

"I don't get it. Why can't you just say I love you!”

"There's more than one way." Nya leaned close, pressed a kiss to his cheek, and continued walking without a second glance. "I love you~ They smell wonderful. Now where can I find a vase?"

Jay stood frozen, his hand hovering where her lips had been. This is just an act. This is just an act. Even if she confessed her undying love for me again. This is all just an act.

The Proposal One ♡

This might have been the strangest yet the most endearing event Nya had ever witnessed. As the mechanical sun slowly set, Jay knelt on one knee, surrounded by red roses and candles shaped into a heart. In his hand was a velvet box containing a silver ring.

Two minutes earlier~

"Dear? Where are you leading me?" Nya hummed as Rogue covered her eyes with his palms.

"You’ll find soon enough. I just happen to have most wonderful surprise waiting for you." His voice dripped with sweetness before dropping to a whisper. "Play along, okay?"

He's really taking this fake husband role seriously, Nya thought.

"We're here!" Rogue removed his hands.

Nya gasped at the heart of roses.

"Since our wedding rings were lost in the storm, "Rogue opened the ring box and lowered himself to one knee, "I decided to get you a new one, my love."

"Aww, you're the best, dear!" Nya launched herself into his arms, more than happy to be proposed to a second time. To her surprise, Rogue didn't protest the physical contact.

"Can you believe this guy has a metal forge? He's becoming more suspicious by the minute," he murmured against her ear.

When they finally pulled apart (much to Nya's disappointment) he slid the ring onto her finger.

She held it up to the light. "Wow. The metalwork on this is terrible."

"How can you tell?"

"Blacksmith's daughter. Also, Kai is a great example of what not to do."

"I'll say." Rogue gestured to the rose heart. "Now can you help me clean this up?"

"No worries, we'll get to it!" said a Lee.

"Absolutely stunning proposal, Count McCoolGuy!" said another.

Rogue whispered again. "I told you they were watching us."

Thank You °‧🫧⋆.ೃ࿔*:・

After the whole Land of Lee fiasco, Nya found herself searching the Bounty for Rogue.

"Rogue! Rogue!"

"It's Rogue—wait, you said it." Jay dropped down from the deck above.

"Yes, and I wanted to say thanks for sticking with us back there."

Rogue huffed, crossing his arms. "Yeah, well, I need you all alive for the payment."

Nya let the remark slide. "Thank you, anyway. Goodnight."

She turned away, but his hand caught her wrist.

"Nya..." He hesitated, his grip tightened. "It wasn't all that bad. Pretending to be your husband."

She looked back at him, one eyebrow raised. "Are you sure you don't want to keep pretending?"

"Har-har. I know what you're doing." He released her wrist,  "I'm a mercenary. I refuse to be tied down by marriage."

Nya's expression flickered.

Jay caught it. He exhaled sharply. "But if I ever did get married…" He couldn't meet her eyes. "It wouldn't be so bad. If it was you."

She waited.

"Not that I actually would," he added quickly. "Just , oh forget it!”

Before she could respond, he pulled her into a hug, his chin resting on top of her head.

"Just stay with me for a while, would ya?"

Nya smiled against his chest.

"Of course."

~The End~

Lloyd: Why are couples so loud at night?!!!

Notes:

1. The nickname for this fic was My Tsundere Husband: Amnesiac Edition which I just find so funny.
2. Was written last because it felt right
3. They might already be engaged already but Jay proposing all over again is so cute to me.
4. I wanted a dramatic hug moment. That’s all. Less of him being a good husband but him just being honest with himself
