Chapter Text
Spark climbed over the back of the couch, putting his phone in Mason's face. “Look! Another monster sighting!” Spark exclaimed excitedly, giggling when he was shoved backwards.
Mason just let out an amused chuckle. “As cool as it sounds, those photos are so damn blurry. It could literally just be an animal.” He retorted as he turned back to the video on his phone.
“What animals are you seeing?” Spark questioned as he looked back at his phone. The shadowy figure was walking on two legs, had a massive frame, and two huge horns on its head.
Mason took another look, actually looking at it rather than taking a quick glance. “Okay, this one actually looks like a monster.” He replied as he brought Spark’s phone closer.
“Do you think it's a wendigo?” Spark asked as he began searching for more images of this creature.
Mason shook his head. “Doubt it. They have faint similarities, sure, but that's mainly because the creature in that photo is covered in shadows.”
“We should check it out!” Spark remarked as he stood up, practically vibrating with energy.
Mason shifted around on the couch, half leaning over the back. “How? Do you even know where it is? Hell, it could've moved for all we know!” He asked, waving around his hands as he spoke. Typically Mason would go along with Spark's crazy plans, but this seemed like a dumb wild goose chase. Most of Spark's monster hunting plans tended to be.
“But I do know! Look, don't you recognize that background!” Spark shoved his phone back into Mason's face, an excited tone to his voice.
Mason signed and decided to entertain Spark's plan. However, he paused when he took in the background of the photo. “Is- is that the cave entrance that's near our school?” He questioned, grabbing Spark's phone to take a closer look.
“Yup!” Spark replied, popping the p. “I always wanted to explore that place, now we have an excuse to!”
Mason was actually interested this time around, this actually seemed promising. “Alright, let's go!” He exclaimed as he got up, making his way towards the door.
“At least give me my phone back!”

Spark pulled out his phone with one hand, turning on the flashlight once they reached the cave entrance, carefully making his way inside. He clutched Mason's hand in his other.
As they went further inside, Spark and Mason froze at a sudden sound that followed when Spark kicked a rock out of boredom. “What was that?” Spark asked, his voice quiet. Spark clutched Mason's hand tighter.
“I don't know, I've never heard that sound before,” Mason replied before stepping in front of Spark, leading the way. Mason squeezed Spark's hand when he felt the other shuffle behind him nervously.
Mason pulled out his phone, making Spark hesitantly put his own away. Mason flicked his flashlight around the cave, keeping an eye out for anything. Mason paused when he stepped on something that made a disgusting squelching sound.
He turned his flashlight towards the ground, taking a step back from it. There was a weird blue substance on the ground, Mason let out a groan of disgust. Another weird sound echoed throughout the cave. What the fuck.
Mason jumped when his phone faintly vibrated, another weird sound. Mason looked down at his phone, a text message from Spark.
‘I think the monster might be the type to locate things by sounds i think that's what those noises are meant to indicate it's hearing us’
Oh.
Oh.
Mason immediately put his phone on silent. He began texting Spark a message back, squeezing Spark's hand in comfort.
‘Thanks for telling me that’
Spark squeezed his hand in return. ‘I think we should head back’ was all Spark sent before shutting off his device. Mason nodded and began backing away from the substance. As they backed away, Mason hadn't been taking in his surroundings, accidentally bumping into Spark and making him stumble. Mason had managed to keep him upright, but they had made too much noise.
SCREEEECCHHH
Mason felt his body freeze, shaking at the loud sound and eerie noises that followed after, like something was crawling its way out of the ground. “Spark, we need to go!” Mason hissed as he shoved his phone into his pocket to begin pulling his friend with both hands.
Spark stumbled with every step but managed to follow along. Another loud shriek was heard, causing Mason's grip to falter. Spark let out a grunt of pain as he tripped and fell, quickly getting up from the ground. Spark felt dizzy, why couldn't he see? He tried reaching around for Mason, panicking when he felt nothing.
Spark let out a surprised yelp when someone suddenly grabbed his hand. “Spark, hurry up!” Mason let out through gritted teeth, still trying to be quiet even after whatever it was back there had already awoken.
A low grumble could be heard, that sounded way too close. Mason quickly shoved Spark behind him, putting the other out of immediate harm's way. Spark couldn't see, but he could definitely hear something being thrown into a wall and a shout of pain. He could definitely feel Mason's hand ripping out from his hold. Fuck, Mason got hurt because of him!
“Mason!” Spark shouted, too distressed to care about keeping quiet around a monster that relied on sound. Spark ran towards where he heard the slam, feeling around until he touched Mason's shoulder. He quickly began picking him up, making a sprint for it once he had Mason's limp form in his grasp.
Spark was too distressed to process the slithering sound following him.
As he ran, Spark cursed to himself as he realized he had zero clue on where to go. It was dark as shit and Spark couldn't pull out his phone with Mason in his arms. Spark panted as he stood there, trying to catch his breath. He could hear the monster following him, he was absolutely fucked.
Spark bit back a sob. After this was all over, he promised to himself that he would never drag Mason along to his dumb monster hunting things ever again. Maybe even just quit doing this altogether.
Spark's knees buckled, collapsing to the ground. Spark began rapidly blinking, trying to keep his tears at bay. He carefully laid Mason on the ground, his arms tired.
Slither, slither, slither
Spark froze. What was that? Spark began looking around him, an idiotic decision considering he couldn't see anything.
“Papa!” A shrill voice called before whatever it was pounced onto Spark's chest, causing him to fall onto his back. Spark tried to grab it, quivering in disgust when he touched it. It felt like a bug.
Hold on, what the hell did it call him!?
Spark's eyes widened when a bright glowing light appeared in front of him, he hesitantly raised a hand toward it. He curled his fingers around the light, feeling it morph into some kind of gem. He quivered when he felt the creature nestle into his chest.
“Just say whatever feels right,” it cooed.
Whatever felt right? What does that mean? But despite his confusion, one word did stick out. Of all the words running through his brain, one called out to him.
“Wormhole.” Spark muttered, gripping the gem tighter. Suddenly, he was engulfed in a blinding light. Memories flew back into his brain, shoving their way back into every crevice.
Once the stream of memories stopped, Spark, no, Spoke sat up. Holy shit.
“Papa! You're back to normal!” The creature called out, wait, was that…
Spoke's eyes adjusted to the darkness, his eyes widening when he realized who it was. POOPIES!?
The endermite slithered around in his lap, slithering in circles. “Papa’s back to normal!” They cheered, nuzzling against Spoke's stomach.
Back to normal? Spoke looked down at himself, a small gasp escaping his lips. Since he had adjusted to the darkness, he could faintly see things in front of him. His hands were an ink black and he could see the familiar rainbow accents of his clothes. Holy shit, he was back to normal!
A familiar grumble echoed through the cavern. Oh shit, right, the warden. Spoke carefully placed Poopies back on the ground, giving the endermite a pat on the head before standing up. Now that he was standing, Spoke couldn't help but notice that his outfit was different. It felt more flowy and extravagant, some bits felt frilly and puffy.
Did Poopies just turn him into a magical girl? Or, really, a magical boy?
Spoke chose to push that thought aside for the time being, he had a bigger problem at the moment. “Damn, I don't have any weapons…” Spoke hissed as he anxiously bit a nail.
Poopies slithered around Spoke's feet. “With the power of light, and the void, you can do anything!” The endermite excitedly exclaimed.
Spoke looked down at the endermite, taking their word into consideration. He could do anything, huh? Spoke closed his eyes, thinking of a netherite sword. His eyes shot open when he felt something form in his hands, and there it was. In his hands, there laid a netherite sword. Oh shit, he can do anything!
Spoke let out a breath to calm himself before clutching the sword, but before he could take a step forward he heard a grunt from behind him. He swiftly turned around, calming down when he saw that it was just Mapicc. “Who…?” He croaked weakly before promptly passing it again.
Spoke looked worriedly at him, his fluffy tail brushing against Mapicc’s limp form. “Mapicc…” he muttered, lowering his sword. “Poopies, can you take care of him while I get rid of the warden?”
“Of course!” Poopies eagerly replied, slithering up onto Mapicc’s stomach. “I'll take good care of my uncle!”
Spoke blinked, first they called him dad, now they call Mapicc uncle. Okay, he'll think about the implications of that later, the warden is more important.
Spoke swapped out his sword for a crossbow, feeling giddy as he watched the weapon morph into another. He rushed towards where he could hear the warden, wanting to make sure that it stayed on him and didn't target Mapicc.
Spoke created a night vision with light, letting out a laugh as he did it. This power of light stuff was way too op! Spoke threw the potion down, his eyes adjusting to the effects of the night vision.
Spoke morphed his light into an elytra and some rockets, shooting past the warden and back into the deep dark. Spoke let out a sigh of relief when he heard the warden follow after him, his plan worked. As Spoke landed back into the deep dark, he began pillaring up.
As he pillared, Spoke couldn't help but think about how impossible this was. Why was the deep dark this close to the surface? This made absolutely zero sense, it wasn't even close to deepslate. This was so weird…
Spoke readied his crossbow as he watched the warden enter, shooting a spectral arrow at it. Spoke pushed forth some more light, enchanting the crossbow with multishot. This is going to take a while…
As Spoke repeatedly took aim and fired, he was tempted to create a mace or spear to deal as much damage as possible, but with how low he towered it wouldn't be enough to kill. Spoke let out a sigh before loading his crossbow once more, this time with a rocket. If he was going to do this, he might as well have fun.
Spoke grinned as he shot a round of rockets, enjoying the pretty explosion of colors. He swapped for a spectral arrow when he was suddenly afflicted with darkness, letting out a small cheer when the arrow hit its mark.
Spoke jolted when the warden let out a groan, hopping off his pillar to avoid the sonic boom. Welp, no better time than the present! Spoke quickly morphed his crossbow into a mace holy shit he was holding a mace oh my god oh my god and smashed the warden, he hoped and prayed that it'd be enough. Spoke peaked open an eye and let out a sigh of relief when he saw that it was dead. Spoke looked around at the rest of the deep dark, his eyes narrowing as he took it all in.
This was too dangerous. He needed to get rid of this.

Mason grumbled as he cracked an eye open, noting the moonlight lighting up his bedroom. Wait, moonlight, bedroom. He was back home? Mason moved to get up, but was stopped when he realized that there was a weight on his arm. He turned his head, feeling his heart melt when he saw who it was.
Spark was slumped over the edge of his bed, his head resting in his arms. His hands were clinging to Mason's arm, although his grip had weakened due to being asleep. Most importantly, Mason could see faint trails of tears on Spark's face. Mason carefully laid back down, making sure not to startle Spark.
He was glad that Spark was okay. Mason didn't know what he'd do if Spark had gotten hurt too, the guy was like his brother. Mason lifted his free arm, the one that wasn't being held hostage by Spark, and laid it over his eyes. He couldn't believe that monsters were actually real, because there was no other explanation for what went down in that place. No normal animal could've done that. Mason could still feel his chest aching from the hit he took, at least he didn’t break any bones.
As Mason laid in bed, he couldn't help but think of the figure he saw in that cave. He couldn't see anything clearly, but he knew that he saw glowing white eyes and rainbow accents that he could just barely make out through the darkness.
Who was that?
