Chapter Text
"Earth?" Luna called out, expecting an answer.
Nothing arrived, unfortunately. So, Luna called out once more, his worry slowly growing.
"What?!" Earth finally called back, but it was clearly tired and strained. Luna sighed and brought himself up to see Earth and what was happening.
Luna saw Earth's door closed, which was almost never. Luna reached for the door knob to open the door, but it jiggled defiantly and refused to open.
With a slightly pursed tone, Luna spoke out, "Earth, don't do this to me, open the door." Earth refused to answer.
Luna tried to open the door once more, his hope futile. Luna felt frustration arise. The moon went back downstairs to the messy and unkept bathroom, then grabbed a hairpin. It wasn't his first time.
Distressed, Luna trudged back upstairs, trying to find forgiveness in his heart to care for Earth once more. He stuck the pin into the door lock and twisted it sideways to unlock the door.
Luna pushed open the door, looking around for his dearest planet. Once his eyes locked onto the disheveled figure in a bed, he sighed, and his worries went away.
"Oh, Earth, what's wrong?" The little moon inquired softly, a familiar warmth and care in it. His tone was like the sun shining warmly, but dimly, on a cold winter day.
A mumbled groan came from the depressed planet. The planet that was supposed to be lively was always being comforted by his quiet, caring moon.
Luna sat on an empty space of the bed. It was pathetic to see the usually over-the-top celestial body so glum, but what else was new? Isn't this how every moon treated their planet? With love and respect and warmth when their planet was down in the dumps?
Luna perhaps may have been doing much more than your average moon, but it seemed normal. Saturn was a big crybaby, and Neptune was always out of his mind. What moon would one be if they just let the planet sort through their troubles alone?
"You're not going to feel better if you don't tell me, Earth..." Luna stated, trying to pry the answer out of Earth. It felt like Earth didn't want to get better from his lack of answer.
"Hallucinations again?" Luna hummed, looking around in the messy room. Earth didn't answer, but the bed covers engulfing Earth shifted in an up-down manner. Luna didn't have much to work with, so he assumed so.
"They're not real, okay? I love you. They don't. I'm here for you more than anything," Luna attempted to comfort, but it didn't push through. "I can call over Mars?"
The moon seeing his planet perk up at that knew his planet was content with the latter of the speech. It pained Luna to know his comfort was stones to bread compared to Mars'.
"Please do..." Earth confirmed, wanting his best friend over. Luna nodded and stood. He walked downstairs, each step feeling more tiring than the last. It wasn't much of a tedious task, but it felt worse.
The phone rang for a second once Luna dialed Mars. The line picking up introduced a Boston like accent that held curiosity.
"Yes?" The red planet over the phone asked. Luna opened his mouth and hesitated before saying what he ought.
"Mars, hello," Luna hummed with a facade of delight and interest, "Are you busy?"
A pause from Mars, but then he spoke, "No, I suppose I'm all free, what's it to you?" The speech was passive aggressive, but it meant good things.
Luna looked to the side, "Earth requests you to come over, if you may?"
"Ah, yes, I can come over. Do you want me to bring Phobos and Deimos for you?" Mars said over the line. Luna felt a wave of displeasure come over him as he constructed a reason to excuse himself from that.
"Oh, no, it's okay. I've places to be after you come," Luna fibbed. He had nothing to do except watch over Earth and keep both himself and his planet alive. Which was now being taken over by Mars.
"Okay, yeah, no problem! I'll be there soon!" Mars said gleefully. Luna didn't get the chance to bid his farewell before the line ended. Luna put the phone down and sat delicately on the couch.
His patience wasn't long lasted as the door opened. Curse that Mars knew where the spare keys were. Earth was too open and trusting. Or maybe Luna just didn't know what it felt like to have a reciprocating friendship in which the feeling of trust was mutual.
Luna rose from the couch and saw Mars giving a curt wave before rushing up the stairs like something was chasing him. Luna put on his sweater and shoes before exiting through the door that Mars never shut.
How annoying.
