Work Text:
During an off-the-records exploration of Sekwang City, Go Yeongeun took a wrong turn and ended up splashed with a truth elixir!
Well, she got splashed with something.
Eun Haje, their team leader for this exploration by unanimous vote, looked at Go Yeongeun with concern. “You don't know what effect this will have on you. Are you sure you want to keep exploring?”
She could feel the disapproving gazes of her teammates, but she straightened her back and answered regardless.
“Yes, I do. If something happens, please kill me.”
Eun Haje sighed and shook her head. Go Yeongeun took that as permission to remain.
Agent Bronze frowned. "No, it's still too dangerous. If it impacts happens to impact us too-"
"It's a truth elixir." Kim Soleum spoke up.
The rest of the exploration team looked at him in shock.
Kim Soleum looked up from where he was squatting, a small object in front of him. He pointed at it.
"It says so on the bottle."
As he said, when Go Yeongeun leaned in closer to the bottle, a label with the words [TRUTH ELIXIR] was visible to her.
"Huh," She said. "What a convenient label."
Eun Haje raised a brow. "Miss... Mint, can you try telling a lie?"
Go Yeongeun thought for a moment and answered. "I think you're really pretty." She paused. "That's not what I meant to say."
Amused, Eun Haje looked her over. "I can't tell if I should be flattered at your true thoughts, or offended by the potential insult you almost threw at me."
Go Yeongeun flushed.
Thankfully, their team took pity on her and continued their conversation.
"This isn't as important now, but we have no idea how long this would last, and who might want to take advantage of this to extract sensitive information." Agent Bronze, the ever responsible one, chimed in.
Everyone simultaneously shivered at the reminder.
"Now now~ I'm sure we can manage it." Agent Choi slung his arm around Agent Bronze with a bright and semi-annoying smile, likely working to lighten the atmosphere. "We made it this far without being discovered, we can take a bit more."
Go Yeongeun nodded and opened her mouth to agree.
"Has anyone ever told you that you're really annoying?" Go Yeongeun almost slapped herself with the speed she brought her hand to her mouth.
Everyone froze.
Agent Choi looked at her in shock.
"I... I'm so sorry..." She choked out. "I... I did mean it- I mean-"
She desperately tried to recover from this social blunder of insulting her superior. "No, I'm sorry. You're not annoying all the time! Only majority of the time. No- wait, that's not what I meant to say-" Go Yeongeun was cut off at the sound of laughter.
Eun Haje was doing her best to muffle her laughter with her hands, but wasn’t very successful. Kim Soleum was coughing respectfully, but the mirth was obvious in his eyes.
Even Agent Bronze seemed amused.
Agent Choi… was being Agent Choi.
“Agent Mint… How could you…” He clutched a hand to his heart in mock offense and started a melodrama all on his own. “All my cute juniors are so mean to me…”
Agent Bronze shrugged him off. “We need to keep moving, we don’t have much time.”
Eun Haje nodded. “Yes, you’re right. Let’s keep moving, team. We have work to do.”
They all ignored Agent Choi’s squawks of offense.
The Sekwang Special City exploration team made an amount of progress that Eun Haje deemed acceptable, especially with a contaminated member, and they started to make their way back out.
Go Yeongeun felt guilty that they were essentially cutting the exploration short for her sake, but she kept her mouth shut just in case her contamination made her say something she didn’t want to admit out loud.
The first one out was Agent Choi, then it was Agent Bronze. Eun Haje patted her back and went next.
Go Yeongeun took a glace at Kim Soleum, and exited the dream first.
When she opened her eyes, it was to chaos.
Their route back to the Bureau had failed, and they had landed directly into the Fox Counseling Room.
Choi had his Jakdu pointed straight at Director Ho.
“What did you do.” He gritted out. Go Yeongeun had never see him this mad before.
Director Ho seemed unperturbed. He slowly scanned over the Sekwang Exploration team, before his eyes landed on Go Yeongeun.
She felt a bad premonition rise up when his eyes widened with interest.
“Oh?” He started, voice curling with interest. “It seems that one of your members seems to have gotten a bit contaminated.”
She clenched her fists. The entire team was strung with tension. Director Ho didn’t care, still eyeing her up and down. Go Yeongeun had the vivid image of a fox staring down at prey.
Director Ho hummed, “A compulsion to tell the truth?”
They all froze. Agent Choi gritted his teeth and swung his Jakdu. The fox-like man dodged it nimbly.
Go Yeongeun practically threw herself back as Director Ho made his way towards her. Eun Haje, Agent Bronze and Kim Soleum all moved into action, doing their best to defend Go Yeongeun.
Unfortunately, he stopped just before he could get into their attack range range.
“Miss Go, you wouldn’t mind answering a few questions of mine, would you?”
