Work Text:
The sun was shining as he sifted through the flower fields, it was one of the only places he was allowed to be. Everywhere else had been labelled “Too Dangerous” by Sean, and Brandon wasn’t about to question why.
He had been in the fields for a while, never straying far enough that he couldn’t see the house, he hated the one time he did get lost. He was gathering flowers to put in the vases around the house, it would make the place seem a bit more lively.
The flowers he already had didn’t seem to wilt, even the ones he had shoved in his pockets were perfectly fine, not a petal out of place.
As Brandon wandered, he started to hear humming. It drew his attention immediately, leading him to stray towards it.
He consistently checked behind him, making sure the house was still in view, he was lucky enough that it was.
A person sat in the field not too far away, one Brandon didn’t recognize. They knelt in a small patch of pure white flowers, the flowers seemed to be glowing.
“Hello?” He called as he crept closer, he’d been taught to be cautious.
The person turned around, their dark eyes meeting his. They didn’t seem to be one of the creatures he’d been told about, so he went and sat with them. They had been making a flower crown out of the white flowers; it was half finished, though they showed no urgency in going back to their weaving.
“What’s your name? I’m Brandon!” He grinned, pointing at himself. The person smiled kindly, turning their head away from him to continue their project.
“Geometry, but you can call me Geo.” Their voice was calm, kind. It made him feel at ease, he didn’t mind that they weren’t looking at him while talking, he understood the want to do things while talking.
“I like that name, how long have you been here?”
“Not long, I think. I woke up in this patch a while ago, and I chose to pass the time with this.” They held up the flower crown.
He nodded, watching them work in silence for a minute.
They finished their weaving and held the flower crown up to the sunlight, smiling at their work. They decided to place it down on his head, earning a surprised, yet excited, squeal from Brandon.
“Where did you come from?” Geo asked, tilting their head at him.
“I came from the house! I went out to pick flowers and then I heard you humming!”
“The house?”
“Mhm! Oh! I should probably bring you there!” Brandon laughed, tugging on Geo’s arm to get them up. He led them to the house from there, talking on and on about the other residents and their usual adventures.
“It’s been a while since we got a new person!” Brandon exclaimed as they walked up to the door, pushing it open.
The door was never locked, unless a Nilinstance drew too close, then Sean would lock everything up.
“I’m back! And I got a friend!” He called, taking off his boots. His hoodie was allowed to stay on, he never got it dirty. Even though the sleeves felt sticky, they still didn’t look dirty.
Ace was the first one to sprint over, followed by Sean and Jacob. Brandon took it upon himself to introduce Geo, talking about how he found them, and all he told them.
Geo just listened, only choosing to speak when they had been asked about where they were before this.
“I’m not sure what it’s called, but everything was made of rock. The trees even seemed to be carved from stone, but I didn’t have a lot of time to figure that out.” They explained.
Ace seemed really interested, asking a whole bunch of questions, Jacob was quiet, as usual.
Sean was trying to get Ace to back off a little, at least until Geo was settled. Brandon agreed, but decided to take the approach of physically dragging Ace away, which only ended in both of them falling over.
Geo’s room was eventually found, it was in the basement too. Brandon thought it was a really pretty room too, it was clean, and the different shades of pink and gray were nice, nothing too bright. It was like a paradise compared to his own, plain room.
Geo helped him put all the flowers he collected around the house, grabbing vases that he couldn’t reach, putting in the right amounts of water or plant food, just overall being helpful.
“Are those the last ones?” They asked after they filled the container with water, putting it back on the coffee table.
“Mhm! Thank you!” He grinned, giving them a quick hug.
They hesitated for a moment, but hugged him back. It was a tight hug, but it was nice.
Everyone sat down after that, some on the couch, though Brandon and Ace opted for kneeling on the carpet.
Brandon coloured while they talked, listening in on whatever they were talking about. Ace was asking about Geo’s friends now, wondering if they were alright.
“Well, I’m not sure,” Geo started, fidgeting with their hands, “I have this one friend, and I don’t know if he’s going to be okay without me.”
“Why? Are they already struggling?”
“Not exactly, it’s just… I used to help him a lot, usually with videos and games, but it felt like he really needed me there. He got pretty upset when I wasn’t, and I don’t know how he’ll deal with this.”
“That’s… something.” Ace commented, he didn’t know what to take from that.
“Yeah, I’m sure he’ll have someone else take over anyways.”
The conversation drifted away after that, it was clear Geo didn’t want to talk about friends anymore.
Instead, Ace asked about their hobbies, what games they liked. It turned out they liked scripting, writing code. They were pretty good at it too, helping people with a whole bunch of projects, even small things.
Brandon had dabbled in coding too before, He’d have to ask for tips from Geo later, if he ever got a chance to code again.
Sean had let them all stay up again, it was normal for when new people arrived, but it was still a little hard.
Brandon had started falling asleep at the table, pressed against his colouring book. Ace had made a joke about that, one he didn’t really hear, but got laughs anyways.
Eventually, though, it was time for everyone to go to bed. Most of them just walked to their rooms, though Brandon was picked up and carried by Sean, too tired to walk.
Even in his tired state, he was excited to have another person in the house, it had started feeling lonely anyways.
