The rain still stormed, pounding against the windows, a threatening gloom that suffocated almost as much as the grief. But the sun still tried to shine, desperate behind the gray sky, desperate to reach through the window and kiss the boxes strewn across their new apartment. The remnants of his life with Ilay, now scattered in an empty space like the void he'd never be able to fill.
Taekjoo tugged at Zhenya’s arm. “Quit slacking.” And they left to help with more boxes, Taeui relieved. It was rare to see alphas so helpful, at least in Taeui’s experience, and his new neighbors seemed kind enough. He supposed it was just the one, the Korean who brought an ounce of home into their new neighborhood, his partner, the Russian, hardly helpful. But still, their welcome filled Taeui with a sliver of hope.
Taeui watched the rain, curled on the too-empty sofa, and hugged a pillow to his chest. Ana was setting up her room, and he really should be unpacking. But hanging up old photos and clothing felt too painful.
He wanted to sit and hold onto that shred of hope for just a little longer.
