Work Text:

They were in Mike’s bedroom, lounging on the bed reading comics and sharing a bowl of candy, but Will’s decision to pop a Hershey’s Kiss into his mouth was what set a peculiar situation into motion.

Right as Will popped into his mouth, Mike dug around in the bowl between them for a second, the clanking of the candy against the bowl making Will turn to look at Mike. He watched as Mike tore his eyes away from his comic to look at the bowl, frowning.

“Will, did you- did you eat the last Kiss? I wanted that!”

Will grinned. He had a habit of letting chocolates melt in his mouth rather than chewing them, so he opened his mouth and showed Mike the lump of chocolate on his tongue.

“Are you kidding me, Will? I wanted the Kiss.”

Mike lunged towards Will and gripped his face. Will gasped and Mike used the opportunity to try and reach into his mouth and take out the chocolate.

Will’s brows furrowed and he fought against Mike, biting down on his fingers.

“Ouch!”

“What the fuck, Mike?” Will asked, shoving the chocolate into the pocket of his cheek while he spoke.

“I’m telling you, I want it! That was the last one!”

“So you’d literally eat the piece that’s been dissolving in my mouth and is covered in my spit?” Will stared at him incredulously. He knew he should be grossed out, but he was more intrigued. The fact Mike would go that far for a piece of chocolate just seemed crazy.

Mike huffed. “Will, come on.”

“What do you expect me to do? Spit it out for you? Not happening.” Will said, shaking his head.

Mike paused, pursing his lips, looking contemplative. “Okay, what if we share it?”

“Share it?”

Mike groaned and gripped Will’s face again, pulling him closer. Will gasped, scrabbling the heels of his hands across the sheets uselessly. Mike’s grip on his face was too strong.

“Mike, what-”

“Can I?”

And then Will, understood, because Mike’s half lidded eyes were staring down at his lips. And this was definitely not how he had thought his first kiss would go down. But who was he to say no to Mike Wheeler? He was hopelessly in love with him, after all. And this might be his only opportunity to kiss him ever.

“Okay,” Will whispered shakily, his eyes glancing between Mike’s quickly.

Mike smiled then, radiantly, and Will thought he might faint before he ever got a chance to experience the kiss.

“Are you sure?” Mike said, his eyes searching Will’s.

Will gulped, but nodded. “Yes.”

Mike leaned in.

Will tried to decide if he was supposed to be breathing or not, and that just made him all the more conscious of the breaths he was taking— they stuttered and his chest rose and fell rapidly, his whole body alert.

Then it happened.

Mike pressed his lips to Will’s, twisting his head when they met to get a better angle.

Will had anticipated fireworks, expecting them to explode in his mind with incomparable ecstasy. That was what the movies had taught him to expect.

That wasn’t what he got, but even though what was happening could hardly be classified as kissing yet, he was immediately sure that he liked it.

Mike’s mouth was gentle against his, warm and soft and good.

Mike licked at the seam of his lips and Will let out a whole body shiver, hand desperately fisting the sheets below him. But he parted his lips obediently, letting Mike take what he wanted.

He felt Mike smile into his lips and then he haphazardly attempted to shove his tongue into Will’s mouth. Will was clenching his jaw tight, still anxious, so Mike’s tongue just bumped into Will’s teeth.

He pulled away and panted against Will’s face, the hot air puffing onto the lips that Mike had just claimed a first kiss from.

“Will,” he mumbled. “Open— open your mouth more. Let me in.”

Will’s stomach did somersaults at Mike’s words, but he nodded quickly, not wanting the moment to end. Not wanting Mike to come to his senses and stop kissing Will.

Mike pressed him down gently, encouraging him to lie down. Will complied, grateful for the soft pillow under his head that soothed his spinning head.

Mike came back in, and Will made sure his teeth weren’t in the way this time when Mike licked into his mouth.

He hated himself for the soft gasp that slipped out between them unbidden as soon as their tongues met. He’d almost forgotten the whole point of this already, until Mike’s tongue made contact with the Hershey’s Kiss and jostled it around on Will’s tongue, reactivating the taste of chocolate in his mouth.

Seeing as how Mike was trying to steal the chocolate from Will’s mouth before this, Will allows Mike to swirl his tongue around the kiss, sandwiching it in between their tongues, but still keeping a solid grasp as to not let Mike unexpectedly steal the Kiss from him.

Well, Mike was stealing a kiss from him, wasn’t he?

Will loved kissing Mike. He found that out right away. He was melting into it just like the chocolate that was melting into their mouths. Will didn’t know if it was on purpose or not, but Mike’s tongue was wandering, exploring Will’s own.

He was getting light headed though, so he placed his hands on Mike’s chest, and Mike got the hint, breaking the kiss immediately. There was chocolate in the string of saliva that still connected them after they parted.

They both panted against each other, sharing the same reused air that smelled like chocolate now.

“I-“ Will began, wanting to let Mike know that he was ready to get back into it, but Mike didn’t wait; he connected their mouths again, startling Will, who gasped into Mike’s mouth.

Mike was even more exploratory this time, licking the underneath of Will’s tongue, sending electric sparks down his spine.

He belatedly realizing that Mike was probably collecting the remnants of chocolate there, and Mike didn’t stop there either. He started swiping his tongue into Will’s teeth, investigating the crevices for any flavor that he could get.

It seemed like Mike didn’t want to leave any part of Will’s mouth untouched; he claimed the roof of his mouth and the inside of his cheeks next.

At this point the Hershey’s had completely lost its form, only the remaining taste showing traces of it.

But Mike didn’t stop kissing Will. If anything, it felt like the kiss intensified from the fact there was no longer a piece of chocolate to juggle around his mouth.

This whole time, Will had pretty much been pliant, laying back and taking Mike’s attention to his mouth without really returning any effort.

Now that he saw that the kiss wasn’t going to end, he wanted to take initiative and explore Mike’s mouth too. He pushed insistently at Mike’s chest, and a very confused Mike dislodged himself from Will’s mouth, brows furrowed.

“Will, is something—“

Will interrupted him by pushing him and urging him to lay down. Mike’s eyebrows rose but he obeyed, laying down and letting Will clamber on top of him instead.

Will took a moment when he was perched atop Mike to just admire the sight below him.

Mike’s pale freckled skin was flushed, bright red in the cheeks. His lips were the same shade, wet and glistening. His eyes were hazy, but he was staring up at Will with something almost reverent.

Will felt high off it all.

He leaned in.

He was a little slower, more cautious, than Mike was. He pressed his tongue against Mike’s lips softly, and Mike immediately opened it, giving Will’s tongue just a little nudge with his own that made Will want to laugh, but he forced himself not to as to not ruin the moment.

It didn’t matter if he was clumsy, it didn’t matter if he didn’t know what he was doing. He was kissing Mike Wheeler. And Mike liked it. Mike wanted it. That was enough of a dose of confidence as he needed to not hold himself back.

Everything he did was slower and gentler than Mike. He explored every crevice of Mike’s mouth the same way Mike had his, but taking extra time with each area. He kept parting for breath, learning the lesson from before. Each time he did he searched Mike’s eyes anew, a small but insistent seed of anxiety inside him making him worry that he’d find anger or disgust there one of the times he looked.

He never did. He saw only satisfaction and desire within Mike’s eyes, inviting him back in.

Will ran his tongue along the roof of Mike’s mouth a few times too many until Mike pushed him away a little, giggling.

“That tickles,” he explained, grinning up at Will, looking perfectly relaxed.

Will did not feel relaxed at all, every nerve in his body seeming to be at attention. But if licking into Will’s mouth was what had given Mike that laidback expression, Will wanted it too.

He dove back in without responding to what Mike had said, kissing him fervently, done with his exploration of Mike’s mouth and now just repeating what felt the best: sliding his lips against Mike’s, swirling their tongues together. He gave Mike’s lip a little bite on accident— too overexcited— but the way Mike gasped and grabbed a fistful of Will’s t-shirt told him that he should never stop doing it.

So he kept biting, kept licking, kept dragging their lips against each other— kept… making out with Mike Wheeler, his crush since… forever.

He had that precious Hershey’s Kiss to thank for all of it.
