Danny's No Good, Very Bad Day

Summary:

PR241: "It's not like things could get any worse. I'm already dead."

Notes:

Work Text:

Danny is having a no good very bad day.

It started with English Lit with a fat 0 for a grade on the pop quiz.

And then Dash had filled his gym shoes with wet toilet paper.

Which made him late to gym so Coach Tetslaff made him run an extra mile.

Which normally would have been fine but his shoes were still wet and made his socks wet.

And he couldn’t just phase the wet or the paper out without ruining the inner lining. He tried that and ended up pulling the whole shoe apart.

And then the Box Ghost invaded lunch to steal the boxes of food from the cafeteria which summoned the Lunch Lady and Danny tried to stop that fight but failed.

Which got the kitchen covered in ketchup and raw burger patties.

And Lancer walked in at the exact moment Danny turned back to human.

So detention.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, he had to clean the kitchen on his own. Under supervision.

So no ghost powers to make it faster.

Smelling of ketchup and raw meat, Danny finally makes his way home.

“Please take a shower,” Sam whines, holding her nose.

“I will, as soon as I get home,” Danny sighs.

“Do you want to study at my place?” Tucker offers.

“Honestly, I just want to go to bed.”

“Thats understandable, I can’t believe they made you scrub the ceiling of the kitchen.”

“It needed to be cleaned,” Danny shrugs. “Sucks that I couldn’t just fly up there to wash it.”

As they approach the house, they see Jazz sitting on the front steps, reading a book.

“You’re not at the library?” he asks.

“I would but I need to get one of the textbooks from my room, but mom and dad blew a capacitor so the whole house stinks.” She looks up. “Figured I would wait for you to come home so we can just skip the front room.”

“Sure, I can’t imagine it's that bad, though.”

“Smells worse than you,” she wrinkles her nose.

“Ha ha,” Danny rolls his eyes. He turns to Tucker, “I’ll meet you at yours?”

“Sure, you gonna be okay?”

“It’s not like things could get worse,” he says, “I’m already dead.”

“That’s a red flag if I ever heard one,” Tucker frowns.

“What? Today’s already sucked, it really can’t get worse.” Danny holds his hand out to Jazz. “I’ll shower quick and be there at yours in 10.”

“If you say so,” Tucker hikes his backpack higher onto his shoulder.

“See you later,” Jazz says, taking Danny’s hand.

Sam and Tucker say bye with a wave, and head off.

Danny lets intangibility wash over himself and Jazz, lifting gently off the ground.

Flying up, they land gently at the end of the hall across from her door.

“Thanks,” Jazz starts when a blaster goes off, hitting her square in the shoulder.

She falls back with a shout.

“Jazz!” Danny catches her, looking up to stare down the barrel of a gun.

“What have you done with our kids, ghost scum?!” Jack bellows.
